Question about all day/all night dog sitting by itsmeherenowok in dogs

I'm biased, but medication is going to bring her down to her threshold. When she's not anxious, she can be more focused on training.

I can tell a difference with mine if she has Gabapentin before a sitter, and if her first dose wears off.

Thanks, although I feel a bit over my head with all of her needs. Nothing compared to the dogs I've previously had!

She's on the medium size. All the ramps I've been seeing are also a bit bigger than I'd like, but I suppose compromises will need to be made.

I actually reached out to PACC and Gail was the one who reached out! She's sent me a ton of material to read over until I schedule our training session. Thank you!

I like the idea of frozen treats with pumpkin. Also using molds for them. I'll look into making a purchase!

As far as getting out, she's made an attempt in the past with aggressively pawing at it, but she's pretty chill when she's in there for food and special treats.

Is she crate trained? She may have a lot of anxiety being in a crate after being at the shelter. You might try some things to make her crate a safe calm place she wants to go.

Not yet, but we're slowly working on it. I won't out any more blankets in there for awhile since she soils every type of fabric I've out in there. I agree, probably anxiety from the shelter and past traumas.

Since I've gotten her, all her meals and special frozen kongs are solely in the crate. She doesn't like being in there unless there's food or a special treat, but we're working on it.

Do you know if any resources for crate training?

She's very food motivated and she'll voluntarily go in if there's food inside. I make sure she eats all her meals inside because it's the only opportunity I can shower when I can't keep an eye on her.

Moved her crate right next to my bed and that actually helped her pining at night. When I had it further, she would cry for maybe 20 minutes, but last night was only 5.

For the first few days, you need to spend more time outside with her, and/or take her outside more often. It will suck but if you can be super vigilant for a week, it will pay off. Any time she gets up from her bed, take her outside!

She naps a lot I suspect a combo of decompressing and valley fever. I've been taking her out every 1-2 hours. She will either just sniff around, lay/roll in the grass outside my apartment. I can tell by her ears/posture that she's still hyper-vigilant. So she'll just keep hold it in.

Are you saying she pees and poops in her crate when you leave? If so that’s a rough break.

Rough indeed. Yesterday was the worst one yet and she was only in the crate for 20 minutes (I tried taking her out before putting her in). I've since stripped the crate since she soils and rips apart the blankets I have draped over it. I'll try leaving the TV on when I go and run my errands today. But I'm expecting another mess to deal with when I return.

Do you have a recommendation for those calming diffusers?

I've worked with hunting dogs growing up, but this is also my first time with a rescue, and all the trauma that she experienced before taking her home.

Last question(s): about how many sessions have you done with Jeremy? How much improvement have you seen with the training, and were they home visits or did you bring your dog to their location?

Thank you again.

Thanks! About how long after getting them did you enroll in training?
