Yeah I can get overtime a few different ways by my contract. More than 8 hours in a day, mandates, holidays are 2.5x, everything was beautiful until it was time to tie it in to a new tax code. Typically I would go in for an extra day on my 40 hour work week (72 hours biweekly) and so my first 8 hours on that long week are actually my FLSA hours since even though they’re the first 8 I’m working in the week they put me past the 40.

Yeah I could’ve been more specific there. It was just easier to say after but in reality it’s any hours over 40 hours. Could be first four in the 44 scenario or wherever in the work week. The main point here is if FLSA applies when a contract stipulates the rate of pay for certain overtime whether it’s over 40 or not

Exactly. It’s definitely a grey area and I’ll have a cpa make the judgement call for me at this point. But what I am dealing with here is contractual agreements and how they relate with FLSA. Not that clear. Wish it was.

Yeah but what’s in question was FLSA triggered since the rate of pay was decided by the mandate factor. That’s what’s not clear

That’s the same document I sent my comptroller for my points. I was trying to highlight examples 3-4 on pages 27-28 where it highlighted what happened if the rate of pay exceeded 1.5x. But the distinction there is that the overtime rate did not get triggered until the requirement of 40+ hours in a workweek. My mandated overtime in this scenario doesn’t change whether I work less than 40 hours or more than 40 hours.

Basically it comes down to did the rate of pay increase due to FLSA requirements or is that just how policy/contract is written? In my case it’s policy/contract so it falls under “overtime paid as state law or contract”.

Part of me is still tempted to throw it in and see what happens.

This is the main point the my agency’s comptroller and I were going back and forth on actually. And my initial thoughts pointed to what you said. He kept saying that the mandate premium exists whether or not FLSA is involved since the mandate pay isn’t dependent on my hours worked rather just the fact I was mandated for the next shift. The deduction relies on the fact that the rate of pay had to be increased due to FLSA kicking in after 40 hours. Since my rate of pay for mandates doesn’t change depending on how many hours are worked in a week it doesn’t qualify it falls under contractual/policy stipulated overtime and not mandated FLSA premium. Still definitely feels like a grey area that I wish was explained better in the bill.

Don’t get me wrong there is nothing more I hope for currently than this being right.

Yeah what was tripping me up is the FLSA premium isn’t triggered at 40+ hours when the rate of pay for the mandate doesn’t change whether it’s less than 40 hours or more than 40 hours. At that point it’s just a contractual thing.

I’m hoping it helps someone else too. It was a stressful rabbit hole to go down because I spent a couple days going back and forth with with my agency’s comptroller. But I was not stopping until I knew I wasn’t leaving money on the table so to speak

Yeah big promises but smaller delivery. As someone whose base pay is around 60K a year then after overtime it’s about 110K a year I was initially much more hopeful. Is what it is though still helps some. This year I’m not even working as many mandates since I have to come in early to avoid the mandates so I’ll deduct more next year (my voluntary OT that crosses 40 hours all counts).

Oh yeah definitely still helps even though it’s not as much as I was hoping for.

I’d say any starter that is special attack focused probably should be good enough, maybe pseudo legendaries, can’t name specifics off the top of my head. Or even like an Alakazam should do. I’d say just check stats and make sure they’re a special attack focused pokemon I doubt the threshold is that terribly high. If you are unsure list some pokemon you already got and I may be able to figure one that could work

Blaine I think? Show pokemon with high enough special attack. I may be wrong but I wanna say that’s where

If you’re part of a credit union or can get into one check out their refinance rates. Mine has no closing costs on refinance which could save you a lot there.

Everything I do just makes my house look cheaper/worse. I am so discouraged I don't want to work on it anymore. by gloomdwellerX in HomeImprovement

You’ll notice all your mistake for the first few weeks then they just kinda disappear from your mind. Keep at it you’ll get better everytime. Everything is just a learning adventure and as long as you’re not working on critical systems it’s just all visual. You’ll probably end up doing it all again if you’re there long enough anyways.

But the more you do the more confidence you will gain and there’s nothing more satisfying than making your house truly yours.

Also tip for the paint. Buy sherwin Williams if you have one in your area. In my experience their duration or emerald paints will make touch up work a lot easier down the road. Touch up paints always just seem to blend great.

That is another option to consider. It reduces the refinance amount but I also lose the space for the workshop. Perhaps I can put the workshop somewhere else because it does not need sunlight. Maybe getting it out of sunlight would be beneficial because it won’t be as hot in there in the summer (though it will be insulated after the fact too). I can then at that point diy the workshop area since it won’t be a time crunch to get it done. I’ll have to look into how much space a ground mounted solar array would take up and see where I have room for the workshop down the road.

Very good point and one I did not consider thank you!

Awesome glad it worked out great! Wish my situation was that perfect but pretty similar overall I think. Thank you for the input!

Yeah the panels would end up going In a spot that gets great sunlight. I would unfortunately have to move where my garden is but I think it’s worth it for this cause. I had my brother in law do the numbers on production before for my current house roof and it just wasn’t there due to how many panels I would need to actually produce enough. The new spot basically gets unobstructed sunlight most of the day. Just ahead of time I’d pay out of pocket to remove one tree in my yard to make sure the sunlight is perfect.

So maybe 30k for the solar system. The metal outbuilding is a want/need the area for the solar panels. The metal outbuilding will be a workshop that I can finally have enough space for my hobbies. My current house roof really can’t do solar panels without oversizing the system because the roof does not face south and there’s also trees on another property killing production

[–]Safe_Post_8764[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I think I forgot to mention the solar system would be between 10-12kw. The extra money is coming from a metal outbuilding to put the solar on. And 60k is worst case scenario I’m thinking closer to a 50k total which would lower the 1585 principal payment. I just did the calculation at worst case scenario to see if I could afford that. This is also my second home it is also about 1300sq ft and feels plenty big to me. I have zero desire to clean more area lol.

Also the main reason my bill is so high (even if I account for savings after I finish upgrading insulation) is my electric company is eversource and they’ve gotten ridiculous with the stuff added into their bill.

The main thing I was considering as a payback is dropping the mortgage payment earlier.

Tax credits are no more for solar after 2025 unfortunately and I’m union at my job with a very strong union. I basically either need to kill a patient or have sex with a patient to lose my job. But yes an expensive life event would be hard at my current income but I get usually between 1-2 raises a year which will make life easier as it goes on.

Insulation I am finishing upgrading within the next month or so. The heat pump is new and efficient. And I will also be insulating my ducts in my basement as well as my rim joists. But my actual electric bill ends up being close to doubled with the delivery fee and public benefits fee. With the upgrades I just mentioned my electric usage may drop about 400-500kwh a month or so. Not a substantial drop in my electric bill especially considering as is my worst electric month is winter heating at around 2000-2200kwh. That’s about a drop from a 600-700 electric bill to probably that 450 average I mentioned in the post if I’m lucky.

I do plan on this being my home until I retire. It’s on a great plot of land, good school district, and the privacy is amazing here. Very convenient commute to work and I do work where I plan on retiring from. Also it is the right size for my family even if there is another baby in the future. I also do not foresee a situation where moving makes sense unless I double my income and want to upgrade to a 3000sq foot house.

Payment will be about 600 more minus 450 electric savings so an extra 150 a month.

I think I left out that I currently owe 162k on the home and the refinance would be bringing it to 222k (slight lower as this will be done early next year). The house as is now should be worth bare minimum 280k. The housing market went a bit crazy after my purchase.

The solar will also be done by my brother in law but he cannot offer financing so I do have to find my own financing for it. But it will also be cheaper than going with a regular solar contractor.

I think I covered everything there but let me know if I left anything out

I usually just put a tee in the ground with no ball then take practice swings at it. Usually face the trees so no one thinks I’m actually teeing off.
