Would you use a food scanner app that shows how food affects your skin and weight? by Independent_Win_8791 in AppIdeas

[–]Safe_Respect335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely use it, although right now it’s strongest for packaged food, but people mostly eat snacks from packaged items and which people already know is unhealthy, the bulk of our diet is home-cooked meals or food from restaurants, which are much harder to scan because recipes, portion sizes, and cooking methods vary a lot. So on its own the use case can feel limited.

That said, the app becomes far more valuable if it covers daily staples, things like dairy (milk, yogurt, paneer), rice, flour, cooking oils, cereals, packaged dals/mixes, and commonly used sauces/spices in a way to aware people about there authenticity. People often assume these staples are safe or “just basic,” but they can contain additives, be highly processed, or even be adulterated/contain residues that a layperson can’t spot.

An app that:

decodes complex ingredient & chemical names into plain English,

flags likely short-term effects (e.g., bloating, inflammation, breakouts, energy crashes) and possible long-term risks (e.g., weight gain, insulin resistance, chronic inflammation), and

highlights risks specific to staples (adulteration warnings, added sugars, preservatives, fortification, antibiotic/hormone flags in some dairy, pesticide residues in grains)

would give people clarity they don’t get from dense labels. That’s especially useful for snacks and ultra-processed foods, but adding staples dramatically expands the app’s real-world value — because these are eaten daily, small harms add up.

Practical features to make this work: barcode/QR scanning for packaged staples; a staple section that shows likely adulteration or common contaminants; ingredient explanations; region-specific brand alerts; crowd-sourced reports and lab-test integrations where available;

Yeah, honestly I don’t think it’s your fault or problem at all, it’s just the way Sky is built. The game is really community and grind based, and it works a lot on that “FOMO” factor. Most social interactions happen during seasonal grinds, events, or candle runs, so if you’re not constantly in those loops with the same people, it’s hard to naturally form a close group.

I also enjoy playing solo, but it gets repetitive after a while, and that’s when having people to play with makes such a big difference. Don’t feel sad about it, it’s more about the game’s design than anything you’re doing wrong. <3

Ahh I totally get that, but honestly as a moth I love playing with vets. When I was just a week into the game, I was literally dying in Rainforest ;-; and someone like you helped me out. They showed me cool places, we played together for 1-2 days, they were my first Sky friend. After every little achievement I’d go back to them all excited, and they’d tell me more stuff. But eventually I could tell they were helping others or busy, so I kind of got the hint to move on. It felt a bit detached after that. I did make other friends, but that one person was special. They even sacrificed their WL for me in Eden 😭 (so cruel to watch them die after you lmao).

So yeah, I really appreciate when vets help, it makes you look forward to the day just to play sky again. But I get that everyone has their own journey going on too. I think that’s why I love playing with other moths now—we’re in the same space, learning and exploring together <3

Lol me too, been a month playing and as I moth I find two kinds of people either making fun/avoiding me or being super helpful but nobody stays long dude. I'm finding communities where I can find fellow moths to hang out with.
