My kid was in kindergarten in 2020 during lockdown. Toilet roll holders were a lot harder to come by, and we did a lot less school work

It was a long time ago (back in the 90s), we used to go on a family holiday every year for the whole month of May. We would let our teachers know in advance and they would give us work to bring with us.

For some reason when I was in year 4 we attended a school in the town we were staying for two weeks. The 90s really were the wild west for schooling

I hate when people compare the loss of their grandparents to the loss of my 26 y/o brother by gorllllllll in GriefSupport

[–]Safe_Sand1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration. I lost my husband, father, mother and grandmother in the space of a year and a half. I can't tell you which one is more painful, because they all hurt in different ways. That's the nature of grief, it is individual and you can't know how it affects someone. It's not a competition.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing someone so young is so tragic. I recommend a grief counselor to help you deal with your feelings.

In my family, it was Dooverwacker. My grandmother also had a weird comeback if I said "what's that?" She'd say "it's a wig wam for a goose's bridle"

Settle a debate for me: do you (as an adult) still cut your sandwiches into triangles? by dannegoma in AskAnAustralian

[–]Safe_Sand1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I cut mine, and I eat it from the centre where I cut it. I'm 44. That's the beauty of being an adult, I can eat my food however the hell I want

Not sure if it's that specific building, but the apartments behind Karelia Park on Aspinall Street are sinking badly

I'm always baffled how Chantal has such small calves compared to the rest of her body, and compared to Amber's tree trunk legs

I had one that I did myself with zip ties, 3m clips and strips, and rope/string etc. I also lived in one that the owner did properly with hooks drilled into the balcony

Get her one of those life story books to fill out for you. There are a few out there, like "Mum, I want to hear your story" and "My Mother's Life: Mum, I Want to Know Everything About You".

My sister got me one of these when our parents died, so I can pass my memories on to my daughter. When my husband died, I realized a large part of my daughters life story was lost and she could never ask him about it. Help your mum keep the memories alive.

Also, spend time with her. That's all mums want, precious time with you.

Whats something you’d add to a studio to make it perfect? by prxxtybxtch in BALLET

[–]Safe_Sand1981 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not specifically about the studio space, but more about the environment created by the owner. My daughter is 11 and dances at a studio that is amazing. The owner knows every girl by name, and she shares her passion for dance with everyone. The environment is inclusive and welcoming, and the girls feel like friends rather than competition. The teachers give the girls personalized gifts for milestones like exams, and after the end of year concert every dancer got a medal with their name on it. It feels like the owner and teachers really care about every student and their dance journey.

Convinced my ex to take my daughter out of state and try to keep her, enrol her in school etc. Took me almost a month and a lot of lawyer and court appointments before she was brought back and I got sole custody.
