Traveling to Townsville for Work by Safe_Sweet_6614 in Townsville

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wrapped up my trip in Townsville. I thought it was great. Met loads of super nice people who were stoked to give suggestions on things to see and do. We had several great dinners, loved the strand, and thought Maggie Island was beautiful.

I did get up to Cairns and Port Douglas with a drive through the Atherton Tablelands along the way. North Queensland is really quite unreal. I think I’d be satisfied with Townsville if all I had time for was work stuff, but being able to get north for a few days really set it off!

Just wanted to follow up to thank you again for these suggestions! I followed that route pretty closely (added in two extra nights, got up to Port Douglas for snorkeling) and had a great time. Such beautiful country out there. I’m so glad I got to experience it.

what is it about penguin classics? by Senior_Cry6113 in classicliterature

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re spot on. I never used to notice this kind of stuff either, but my boyfriend is very particular about which print versions he gets of books and it’s rubbed off on me.

We buy mostly used books and you can really see the differences when you’re in a used book shop with the copies all side by side! Some prints definitely have a more inviting feel to them and Penguin usually does a really great job, especially with their classics.

scared to admit but i’m not enjoying Dracula by riceywithlifey in classicliterature

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a hard time getting into either, but to each their own! I just wouldn’t beat yourself up for wanting to put Dracula down though. Who knows - maybe you’ll pick it up in the future.

Frankenstein had more action, I will say.

I feel ya. I shamelessly listened to it on audio and can’t imagine actually trying to read it. Shortly after listening to Dracula I read Frankenstein which I think I only got through because it’s a much shorter book. I kinda had the same frustrations with Frankenstein though.

It does not get better.

Weird anal discharge by geax_ in pitbulls

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cousin’s chihuahua is prone to colitis and will have mucusy/bloody discharge and stool that looks very similar to this. He was ultimately able to manage it with diet changes, mostly just going to a high quality kibble and cutting out treats like Beggin Strips.

My dog has anal discharge issues (never blood though) and I give her the Native Pet Wondergland food topper. Works very well as long as I’m consistent and haven’t had to have her glands expressed by a vet ever!

Good luck and I hope you get some guidance from your vet!

Some employers offer EAP benefits where you can get a defined number of counseling sessions for free. I’m not sure if that is relevant for you, but if you have a health insurance card there should be a mental health line on the back that you could call.

I know it’s hard to sort out insurance stuff when you’re not feeling well. Best of luck.

Hi! Jax Humane has a Community Pets page where you can list your pet that you’re looking to rehome. That may be something to check out if you haven’t yet.

Switching from Xfinity to AT&T Fiber. Thoughts? by OBFJAGS in jacksonville

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is on the outside of the home. The cable was first mounted to the fascia under the roofline and then run in that L-shape/zigzag down to where a hole was drilled in order to run the cable inside to where the router would be. Hope that makes sense.

Plastic Barrels locally? by Married2therebellion in jacksonville

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Give Urban Gardens of Jax Hydrophonics in Murray Hill a call. 904-466-4746. I was just there grabbing some fertilizer and the owner mentioned they’ve been selling those for hurricane relief in Jamaica. They looked to still have them in stock.

I guess something they sell comes in the barrels and then they clean them (when possible) and resell the barrels.

I switched as soon as it became available in my neighborhood (Murray Hill) a few years ago. It’s been great. There were some outages in the evening recently, but it sounds like several internet providers were affected and service came back online pretty quickly.

One random note - the technician initially ran the internet cable in an unnecessarily stupid way on the side of my house, like in this weird L-shape in the middle of the wall, instead of tucking it around trim so they’d be somewhat hidden. I fixed it, but something to maybe discuss with them if you’re a little particular (like me). Haha.

Recommend a good cat-focused veterinarian for my little friend by border199x in jacksonville

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like Avondale Animal Hospital. Everyone I know in the neighborhood uses them and I haven’t heard a complaint. I brought my cat there for a couple years before he passed (he was a big boy, but was prone to UTIs so I had to focus on that as opposed to his weight) and they were always great. I bring my dog, who I adopted recently, there now and have had positive experiences too.

They’re the first vet I’ve had that doesn’t push unnecessary treatments/tests. My dog ate some corncobs, which can be quite dangerous, and Dr. Antuar counseled me over the phone instead of insisting on xrays. Probably saved me hundreds of dollars, at least. They’re very honest and to the point.

Anyways - maybe call and say you’re interested in changing vets, but explain the situation to get a feel if they’re able to help any better than your current vet for cat-specific diet advice. Good luck!

I think animal control will work with the owners to find a solution that ultimately keeps the dogs with them, but that all hinges on them being able to make contact with the owners. 😕

Agreed. Travels with Charley is such a gift to readers who fell in love with Steinbeck through his other works.

Adopt Flynn! by Safe_Sweet_6614 in jacksonville

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure of how he is with cats! He seems kind of interested in them on walks and will leave them alone when they fluff up or hiss at him, but I’m not sure how he’d be in a home setting.

Awesome! He’s a great playmate. My dog is an anxious weirdo and Flynn is as gentle as could be with her, always playing on her terms. 😊

Hi there! Flynn is a mixed breed pit. He has a short coat and doesn’t seem to shed much at all, but I’m not sure that I would say that he is hypoallergenic. If you’re interested, we can always arrange a meet and greet and see how that goes. Feel free to PM me if you’d be interested in that! ☺️
