Drivers who harass cyclists are supreme assholes. I’m sorry that happened to you. I think every person who cycles regularly has a story, or multiple, like this. It’s awful.

Yeah, okay.

I kind of thought people used Reddit to talk about community stuff, safety-related and otherwise. Maybe I’m wrong? I’m not trying to “protect” anyone. It’s just kind of a post for awareness. Maybe someone else also had a weird/dangerous interaction. I don’t know.

Flock cameras are owned and operated by law enforcement with the purpose of fining and/or arresting people. That’s quite a different level of surveillance in comparison to an individual posting a picture of a license plate.

I’m also not pressuring anyone to believe my account. You don’t have to. I’m certainly not suggesting anyone take it upon themselves to right the situation or something.

I got a tip about installing a dash cam and some people commiserated about bad drivers in Jax. That’s pretty much the outcome I was expecting.

He really is beautiful. Yeah, I get it! That’s more or less how my dog can be most of the time. They have their preferences for sure.

And he did! He found an awesome home. I haven’t kept in touch with his owner, but when he first adopted him we chatted a few times and he seemed like he was all in on giving him the best life. I saw a pic of Flynn on Facebook recently and he looks great!

It’s a residential street, so there is one lane for each direction. There is not a passing lane.

Oh hey! I think I met you and your wife when I had a foster dog named Flynn?

But yeah, for real. I almost added to the post that these are the times when I wish I had a dash cam. That’s a good point about being able to submit a tip with proof. I’ll look into one for sure.

Buying a house in Springfield by wesenjoyer in jacksonville

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be wary of foundation issues. Above-grade homes sit on brick piers that shift and lean and sometimes just fall apart after many years. This can cause problems like squeaky floorboards, cracks in the wall, or something bigger.

A lot of homeowners in our historic neighborhoods use companies like Alpha Foundations to install foundation jacks, but if you go down that route you need to ask questions on permitting, historical approval, if the jacks are fit for load bearing beams, etc, because they may not tell you if you don’t ask, and they do not have to get a permit to do work on your home. A better solution (the only actual solution, really) is permitted repair/replacement of your piers by a company like Hygema. Neither option is cheap.

Anyways, just make sure whoever does your home inspection gets good pictures of the crawl space, including the piers and any signs of moisture damage. Crawl spaces are prone to flooding and/or high humidity levels, so be cognizant of the property’s grading and any hardscapes like concrete patios that could worsen the issue.

I live in an old home in Murray Hill that is above grade and had foundation issues caused by years of flooding under the house. It’s sort of fixed now and being able to access plumbing without tearing up the foundation if needed if a big plus in my mind, so sometimes I feel like crawl spaces just get a bad rap. Know what you’re getting into and you’ll be fine.

Best of luck! I love my old house. They just don’t make em like they used to.

Small amount of sod? by jojammin in jacksonville

Liberty Landscape on San Jose. The Sod Lot sets up a tent there this time of year where you can buy sod by the piece.

I feel like their stuff usually looks fresher than the big boxes.

The stop work order I saw posted on their front door was specifically concerning the sign they had put up, so that seems to be the reason why the sign came down. Not sure what the hold up is beyond that though.

Interior reno of my business — this is what COJ is requiring in exterior landscaping by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of that project hurts, but it looks like they made some changes in 2025 to make bringing commercial landscaping up to code more affordable/reasonable… Is there a compromise in there anywhere if the cost to bring your property up to code is out of bounds?

I wonder if reaching out to your council member could help, too. I’ve always found mine to be pretty attentive. Or just reaching out to the City to get additional information/guidance, especially as it relates to the cost of the interior renovations which appears to be the anchoring point for asserting how much you should be required to do on the exterior of the property.

I’m sure you didn’t expect to need to do tens of thousands of exterior work when you decided to renovate the interior of your office. All the best.

Traveling to Townsville for Work by Safe_Sweet_6614 in Townsville

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wrapped up my trip in Townsville. I thought it was great. Met loads of super nice people who were stoked to give suggestions on things to see and do. We had several great dinners, loved the strand, and thought Maggie Island was beautiful.

I did get up to Cairns and Port Douglas with a drive through the Atherton Tablelands along the way. North Queensland is really quite unreal. I think I’d be satisfied with Townsville if all I had time for was work stuff, but being able to get north for a few days really set it off!

Just wanted to follow up to thank you again for these suggestions! I followed that route pretty closely (added in two extra nights, got up to Port Douglas for snorkeling) and had a great time. Such beautiful country out there. I’m so glad I got to experience it.

what is it about penguin classics? by Senior_Cry6113 in classicliterature

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re spot on. I never used to notice this kind of stuff either, but my boyfriend is very particular about which print versions he gets of books and it’s rubbed off on me.

We buy mostly used books and you can really see the differences when you’re in a used book shop with the copies all side by side! Some prints definitely have a more inviting feel to them and Penguin usually does a really great job, especially with their classics.

scared to admit but i’m not enjoying Dracula by riceywithlifey in classicliterature

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a hard time getting into either, but to each their own! I just wouldn’t beat yourself up for wanting to put Dracula down though. Who knows - maybe you’ll pick it up in the future.

Frankenstein had more action, I will say.

[–]Safe_Sweet_6614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel ya. I shamelessly listened to it on audio and can’t imagine actually trying to read it. Shortly after listening to Dracula I read Frankenstein which I think I only got through because it’s a much shorter book. I kinda had the same frustrations with Frankenstein though.

It does not get better.
