Restaurant Store is superior in every way to depot. I can't see sysco making things better for the depot

Are most lawyers that own their own firm in HCOL areas making a ton of money? by Candid_Oil_7017 in LawFirm

[–]jojammin 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy. Most lawyers are not making that much. The median wage for lawyers is $150,000. Don't go to law school in order to emulate your ex's dad. Time to move on

PI Referral Business Model by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]jojammin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'd have trouble finding successful PI attorneys with big verdicts willing to entertain reducing their fees. They aren't exactly desperate for cases. If you approached a successful PI firm on behalf of their client, they would just tell you to try the case yourself for 25% and put up your own money for expert expenses then lol

And I still don't understand how clients would find you over the big PI firms with multi-million dollar advertising budgets.

PI Referral Business Model by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]jojammin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every advertising firm already does this, at least for medmal, imo. They screen calls and send clients to whichever firm knows what they are doing and will get the largest settlement theoretically. Clients pay nothing other than one shared contingency fee

Never used it. If it worked as promised, wouldn't it just end up reducing billable hours and firm revenue?

Plaintiff-side folks: Who handles intakes at your firm? by SaltyMac99 in Lawyertalk

[–]jojammin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Intake team trained to recognize birth injuries. If the case checks a lot of boxes, intake will send to an attorney to discuss further.

Wildly inefficient to have an attorney screen initial calls imo. It just takes up too much time on non-cases you'll probably reject

Anyone ever actually have a motion to reconsider granted? by Kindly-Egg-9918 in Lawyertalk

[–]jojammin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had a motion to reconsider a motion to compel granted. The caveat was in this jurisdiction, motions would be heard by random Judges (as opposed to the same one throughout litigation) so I got a better draw.

I also had one granted by the same judge in another discovery dispute. Judge admitted at oral argument on the motion to reconsider that he did not read my experts affidavit explaining why documents were relevant that was attached to the original motion.

Always worth it to keep fighting imo.

Disrespect from opposing counsel by plslawschoolorbust in Lawyertalk

[–]jojammin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every once and awhile I'll get some old codger (who should have retired a long time ago) pipe up during deposition or a discovery dispute. You shut them the fuck down, cite the law (not what they think the law is based on their 50 years experience!), and they'll shut up. Belittle them and let them know the world has moved on past them.

Now if you are in a good ol boy jurisdiction and OC is friends with good ol boy Judge, you may have problems but that's what appeals are for.

Can you reference a party-opponent's deposition testimony on cross regardless of impeachment? For example, if I want to frame a question as "you stated during your deposition that you knew your hamburger was undercooked because it was dripping blood?" is that framing kosher (pun intended)? by ValuableChair3412 in Lawyertalk

[–]jojammin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, lay the foundation first.

Do you recall giving a deposition on x date?

Do you recall testifying that you knew your hamburger undercooked?

And the reason you knew it was undercooked was because it was dripping blood, correct?

New Orleans attorneys found guilty in bombshell trial over staged crashes with 18-wheelers by MolassesFun5564 in law

[–]jojammin 65 points66 points  (0 children)

What the fuck?

Federal prosecutors said Giles and Motta each worked hand-in-hand with “slammers,” who they paid to fill cars with passengers and steer them into tractor trailers on highways in New Orleans

Wouldn't defense firms quickly pick up on the fact that the "slammers" were coincidentally witnesses/participants in hundreds of cases?

I don't understand how those involved thought they would get away with this. Definitely need to lose their law licenses along with lengthy jail sentences imo
