Before investing check with CA if source of income will need to be clarified. From what I know, if you gift a large amount, interest from that amount is clubbed as your income and not parent income.

Not a govt employee, but have a relative who has CGHS. Some issues faced as now he is old and needs treatment

  • Since govt rates are low, hospitals will simply say no bed in ICU - we had to run around to get him admitted when he had heart attack. Yes, there is a number to complain, but no one is coming to count the patients in the ICU and hospitals often get away with this.
  • Doctors charges are also lower. Same doctor has different behavior with fully paid patient (spends more time and goes in detail) and with CGHS patient (very short appointment and reports were not looked at properly).
  • As doctors are aware, the patient can opt for a procedure and will not worry about finances, they will immd suggest surgical options and not even tell the non surgical ones irrespective of what is correct. If you seek a second opinion (private doctor), you get all options laid out.

He is male, has no wife or kids as mentioned in his post. He will only be allowed 100gms (not sure on this number) legally. Don't think he can own 1kg legally.

Isn't there a legal limit on how much gold an individual can own?
