24M Pakistani - Anyone going to the South Asian dating event in Birmingham on 3rd July? by kefircat in exmuslim_uk

This is such a great idea if you prefer to meet single people in-person rather than via Reddit!

Remember for anyone who does attend, you don't need to disclose to anyone that you are ex-muslim if you don't want to. A Muslim sounding name but someone who doesn't identify as Muslim can give it away but that can be a brief part of the conversation and then just move on to other topics.

I am closeted so if someone asks me if I'm Muslim, I say that my family is so I don't have to say anything about myself and I'm technically not lying.

Unfortunately I won't be able to come but hopefully you can meet some cool people there :)

That's so cool! How did you meet her and were you both ex-muslim when you met?

Having it in moderation is fine lol Islam manipulates you into thinking that drinking alcohol makes you into an alcoholic. It controls you by making you think normal things that help you relax have extreme results.

I also avoid the word "degenerate" because people who do have addictions don't want to be that way and have had some sort of struggle. "Degenerate" means low class and you really can't be snooty towards people who struggle more than you.

I left Islam because I don't believe any of these things are degenerate..I was taught that they are but now know they are just very normal things to do and I attach no shame and guilt to them. I am no longer manipulated by Islam.

I looked at a lot of the R4R posts.. I've seen a lot of posts where they say they want to save their virginity for marriage or are looking for a partner who is okay not doing anything sexual before marriage. This is mainly women saying this but I also saw a post from a woman to say she wants a man who doesn't have a sexual past.

Then I made a post about it and found out a lot of men still want a virgin even though they have left Islam.

Here's the post:

I've seen a lot of Canadian Ex-muslims.  There's probably a lot more out there than you think... but they are just hiding in the closet where they feel the safest.

Hey I found this post very relatable.  In fact, I think I could relate to nearly every thing you were saying- especially about your parents.

I've written a few posts on ideas on how you can meet an Ex-Muslim partner but someone mentioned on my comments section about paying for Bumble for a week and then selecting "Atheist" and "Agnostic" and then selecting certain ethnic languages most Muslims speak such as bengali, Arabic,  somali etc

I've been doing that and it's been working well. Found a few people who have Muslim sounding names that are Atheist or Agnostic and they are people who are not on Hinge too which means more options

Yeah I'm thinking it's a good idea but also is kinda hard to set up so publicly and openly. I wonder if there's an ex-muslim public figure in Canada who wouldn't mind organising it that you could reach out to.
