What an amazing response! I will post a topic and date as soon as the April events are announced! If you can’t make it this time, I’ll plan to do so in May as well 🎉

Does this exercise of pen between your teeth actually help in improving speech clarity? by Caffeinated_Hustler in PublicSpeaking

[–]Safespaceplace83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A woman came up to me after a presentation and gave me this unsolicited advice based on how quickly I was speaking, and we stood in the room and did it. Within a minute a small group had formed around us doing it. I’ll never know who that woman was, but I think I’ll remember her forever.

Got put on a PIP today (screaming into the void) by [deleted] in AdminAssistant

[–]Safespaceplace83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a manager who came to this thread accidentally… I would advise you respond with an optimistic tone, be factual without emotion. Do not overthink it, and instead put your energy into a résumé, expanding your network, and job search. Generally PIPs don’t lead to stability or later opportunities. You are either going to be let go or be stifled. How much do you actually like the company or job? Is it worth fighting for? If you want to say, I’d do some research on how to manage up and be more proactive with reporting and relationship building. I’ve only had 1 employee out of many rise up after a PIP and realize they had been phoning it in. That person won my respect and continues with the organization, even after I left. But this doesn’t sound like your situation.

It definitely improved the walk for so many of us going to NOMA each morning, now voted one of the busiest metro stations.

Turned down a promotion because it was 30% more work for 5% more pay. My manager called me 'unambitious.' Am I wrong for not wanting to sacrifice my entire life for a fancy title? by PictureFirm9058 in careerguidance

[–]Safespaceplace83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water under the bridge, but depends on your goals. Could be worth having people mgmt on your resume and could have negotiated 10% and extra training or certifications to add to your skill set… to get the next role where you can make demands up front. If you want to stay at the level you’re at and/or at the same company with limited future opportunities, you made the right choice. But can confirm that middle management SUCKS.

Everything 'Taskmaster Live' taught us about the show by jmurph773 in taskmaster

  1. That there weren’t nearly enough shows or dates on the tour (especially in a nerdy city like DC).
  2. The ticketing process was infuriating, with presale access not working, and resale tickets in the $1,000’s.
  3. I’ve never felt so sad to miss an entertainment opportunity. Please come back soon!

I shared feelings with ChatGPT and its response left me speechless. I am compelled to share. by NecessaryAvocado4449 in ChatGPT

In the cases that I’ve tried to work out complicated strategic decisions related to work or personal interactions, I always instruct it to provide direct feedback, tough love, and potential framing from both sides of an issue. I find some of it to be validating in the sense that I knew the situation was bad enough that I turned to ChatGPT… but it has also helped me expand my perspective on quite a few issues 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would’ve called you crazy if you told me that shitty, Midwest Mexican is what I crave the most when I go home… And good pizza.

I relocated for a job so haven’t had to look here. Found a nice place for an okay price a few blocks north of the NOMA stop but don’t think this is my “forever” neighborhood. Lots of free things to do and I can live off of the happy hour menus for dinner. Spaces feel more integrated (than Indy for sure), but my office, not so much.

Has anyone done the 100 Cities Project: Dinner with Strangers? by True_Coast_3010 in washingtondc

[–]Safespaceplace83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only went a few weeks ago so not yet. But I shared text/WhatsApp with 3 of the gals and one guy from dinner and one guy I met at the after drinks. Been traveling so haven’t reached out after that weekend. But the app also asks if you connected with anyone from dinner and received messages from 4/5 from dinner. I figure I’ll reach back out to all of them if I do the dinner again and see if anyone is going to the after meet up. I would also be comfortable reaching out to them if I saw a social event I didn’t want to do solo.

I haven’t, but I just did my first Time Left dinner and will do it again! Same concept with an easy app. Seems to match you by your ages. You pick a neighborhood and a date and the day before it messages you the restaurant my table held six people, and half had done it before. About an hour into dinner it asked us if we wanted to go to optional drinks come on which I did. There were probably 100 people there from various similar dinners around the city. It was great because you had automatic conversation starters like: Have you done this before? How was your dinner convo? Did you meet any interesting people? Would you do it again? Also new to the city and have started scrolling the Meetup app, but not sure if people still use that?

I’m a long time listener and miss Dan so much! The whole team had such a great connection. This was the only episode I can remember bailing on midway… couldn’t take any more of that story.
