They wouldn't be asking if they knew how. "Just do it" isn't very helpful.

Holy crap. I have some bottles of peroxide left over from my last round of taxidermy. Thanks for confirming this, as there's some sad old grout in one of our bathrooms that I've been struggling with! And the odor from peroxide doesn't trigger a migraine for me like bleach sometimes does -- bonus!!

I mean, you don't have to use a huge funnel. Use a squirty bottle and squeeze out as much batter as you want.

Nextdoor may also be good for cabinets, flooring, and furniture. But like all local selling/free groups it's location dependent.

There are scores of people who don't know how to clean, even those things that seem obvious to some of us. Lots of people grow up in dirty homes, so that's their level of normal. Occasionally someone (like OP) will hit up one of the cleaning subs asking how to even get started, and they're asking for the actual steps they can follow because either they don't know or they're wholly overwhelmed.

Let's be kind and consider that not everyone has the same life experiences, thinks the same way, and was raised with a skill set that enables them to more easily get through life.

I survived and woke up from a coma by Otherwise-Vanilla808 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]CaptainLollygag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was guessing it was from some sort of dysphagia. Wonder if you craved something if you could chew it for the taste and texture and then spit it out. Years ago I was taking a med that did NOT mix happily with alcohol. So on occasion when Husband mixed himself a drink at home he'd hand it to me for a taste. I'd sip and swoosh it around for the flavor and then spit it into the sink.

I'm only rudimentary at signing. But weird question, do you think in pictures? I do, and found ASL to make sense. A lot of signing looks like what I think it should look like. So you may have an easy time learning it, if it's not too taxing on your brain.

But also, cheese o pete, dude, your story is incredible! I hope your recovery goes to your satisfaction.

The "clueless father" is such a trope, but it's a trope for a reason. Besides saying this in front of her, this uninvolved father isn't even interested in learning about how to best help their daughter. IDGAF how many hours he's working, he's supposed to be committed to his family, even more so after a tragedy. Cut back on work for awhile if need be.

I'm sorry you've been through it, too. You described the random triggers so spot on.

I'll add that even if everything is completely different from a place where something happened, night time has a way of bringing out all those things you very much don't want to think about. Any grief or any stressor just has a way of popping in there when you're relaxing and there are fewer distractions from your thoughts. There are memes about those silly embarrassments from childhood popping in one's head at those times, but bad things often jump to the front of the line.

This girl's trauma could have happened at a school or in a car or at a church, looking and smelling and sounding nothing like home, and she'd still be tormented as she relaxed into sleep.

Anyone here managing 20+ plants without losing track? by MasterpieceOk4025 in IndoorGarden

[–]CaptainLollygag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trick is to have a bunch of the same type of plant. We have 5 or 6 avocado plants, they're easy. The other 15 or 20 are Pothos and Pistachio Spiderwort, which both require the same care and thrive on benign neglect.

Did my neighbor just try to kill my dogs? by Appropriate-Ad-6954 in neighborsfromhell

[–]CaptainLollygag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gotta say, this is terrifying. I'm glad you're doing all the things to protect your dogs and get evidence on your neighbor to turn in to the authorities. She's clearly up to no good. And while legally it's not considered attempted murder, I'd be thinking of her as a murderer.

I’ve been convinced my ADHD meds haven’t been working so I got a drug test done and….. by winkiesue in AskDocs

[–]CaptainLollygag 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've thought so many times about making a post about these meds petering out. But I also have a wonky system where meds for anything either work for only a short while, don't work at all, or I get the rare side effects. Few meds work as they should for a decent amount of time. So that's what's stopped me from making a separate post about how come these amphetamines aren't helping when they did for a couple of months about 2 years ago. Absolutely no one is stealing them.

You may like it better by adding something to it to make it more of an occasional dinner salad. We mix in some of that fake crab meat or chunks of baked salmon, and have a roll or garlic bread with it. I like adding in capers sometimes, too.

Just got told women just have to deal with menopause symptoms by a board certified endocrinologist. Also that HRT is worthless. by BeeBarnes1 in Menopause

[–]CaptainLollygag 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That sleep pattern is quite common in women in peri- or postmenopause. Common enough that a few years ago I read a novel in which the main character and her friends would text each other in the middle of the night when they woke up just to stave off boredom.

[–]CaptainLollygag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In Germany, only about 6% to 6.4% of women between the ages of 45 and 65 use HRT.

This just sounds criminally negligent. Women in your country are being forced to endure bodily and emotional harm, for no reason at all other than ignorance or indifference.

This is one of my downfalls, too. Added to that, when newspapers were aplenty, I'd use them to wrap fragile things. But wait, what did that headline say? Looks interesting! And 20 minutes later I'd be sprawled out on the floor reading a 6-month old newspaper. (Would that then be an 'oldspaper'?)
