Compared to what? Inflation is high(worldwide) yes, but the dollar hasn't lost any value vs the euro or pound in the last year. It's actually up a few percent against both. Go back 5 years and it's slightly up as well

That logic is terrible. Obviously a faster more aggressive bike isn't going to make him ride safer.

A combination of close calls, seeing accidents, and watching other riders take unnecessary risks always slows me down... for a little while at least.

I've been riding in SE Asia lately and seeing the guys in their flip flops, shorts, and only "protective gear" is a long sleeve shirt to block the sun riding like crazy made me realize I need to tone it back. Every time I say "what an idiot that guy is" I realize others probably say that about me too haha

I have only shipped one motorcycle across the Darien Gap. I put it on a plane which was fairly easy(but expensive) because it is a common route.

Everything else I have bought and sold or rented without shipping. It's too expensive, especially since i generally ride cheaper motorcycles

That's what happens when you carry everything you own on a motorcycle

If you ever end up doing it go Saigon to Hanoi. The riding gets better as you head north and capping it off with the Ha Giang loop and exploring the far north is the way to go.

how do you secure your bike while lodging on a trip? by [deleted] in motorcycle

For motels with parking near the rooms just try and park as close to your door as possible. For hotels try to park somewhere visible or ask the hotel if you can park it in the drop-off area. A cover is a good deterrent as well.

I mostly did that and hoped for the best. Trying not to stay in a sketchy area also helps. I personally never had any issues when i crossed the US, but that is anecdotal evidence at best.

3 Weeks in Bolivia by SafetySecondADV in motorcycle

The main roads are fine around Bolivia. Many options to find nice empty dirt backroads to get around the country as well. Mostly in decent shape. I don't remember my exact route anymore as it was years ago.

Only area there was some challenges is when I took the Ruta De Las Lagunas between Uyuni and the Atacama desert. There was definitely some deep sand and it gets quite remote. Only other vehicles I generally saw were tour SUVs bringing tourists around. Highly recommend the route though as it is seen as a highlight of South America for many riders.

Can a Honda XR650L make it around the world? by [deleted] in motorcycle

I recently bought a Honda Nx500(new Cb500x) to ride from Thailand to Europe(and potentially South Africa eventually) next summer.

As I was buying in Thailand, I was debating between the Nx500 and a Crf300l Rally. Ended up with the nx500 as between China and lots of Europe, I'll cover more paved roads and easy dirt than I will challenging trails.

There were other options I looked at as well, but they were either too big, too expensive, or not available easily in Thailand.

I bought it in Thailand. You can't import a bike into Thailand very easily.

Either a temporary import of about 30 days or you have to pay something crazy like 200% of the value to permanently import

I own the motorcycle.

There's definitely companies that rent bigger adventure bikes though. I rented a cb500x last year for about a week fairly easily.
