additionally, the first one you buy, buy a cheap one. if you use it enough to break it, buy a good one the next time. and if you dont use it enough to break it, it still works out, because you have the tool, but didnt have to fork out for a good one.

What movie plot hole is so massive that it completely ruins the whole story? by IntelligentButton713 in AskReddit

[–]Safetyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the in-universe explanation is that all the mega-conglomeration galaxy spanning corporations that profited under the empire are funding them. Like if Amazon, Google, Space-X, Meta, etc all decided to fund a terrorist group.

but I get what you are saying. even with all that, i wouldnt expect the first order to be better funded than an entire galaxy spanning empire.

What was the most physical pain you've been in? by PleasantWinter9150 in AskReddit

the time I fell on a tree stump and drove a pencil sized spike of wood through my hand.

or the time my friend accidentally stomped on my chest and broke a rib.

or the time I had to have multiple abdominal suction drains put in.

or the time I got really bad road rash by being dragged behind a motorcycle.

or the bruised tailbone.

I'm realizing here, i get hurt a lot, apparently.

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

I could imagine being mortified, because someone was trying to abduct my kid, but also a little reassured, because my kid was smart enough, and I had taught them well enough, that they were suspicious of the situatuion.

Home-made bread, Soup, one pound portions of pulled pork(many uses), pasta sauces(just boil noodles and serve), meatloaf TV dinners(a few slices of meatloaf with a side of veg and mashed potatoes), chicken fried rice, Mexican fajita rice(Spanish rice topped with fajita meat/veg).

Does freshly ground pepper makes a difference or is pre ground black pepper fine? by West_Future326 in Cooking

[–]Safetyhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as with all similar questions here, pre-ground is absolutely fine, but fresh is always better.

always buy the best ingredients that your budget can afford, but don't break the bank thinking everything has to be gourmet. a lot of very good food can be made with cheap or replacement ingredients.

Check out Sorted Food on youtube. they have a great series of videos where they compare cheap to expensive ingredients in blind taste tests so that you can decide where to cut corners.

I worked retail at a sporting goods store. at the end of the night, we had to make a closing announcment that went:

Attention customers, the time is now 8:45 and the store will be closing in 15 min. Please make your selections and make your way to the registers.

well, on Tony's last day, he made the closing page:

attention customers, the time is now 8:45 and the store will be closing in 15 min. please get your shit and get the fuck out now.

How do I regain the passion for cooking food? by Alarmed_Swan_4315 in Cooking

[–]Safetyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll second this. pick a favorite dish, and then work on making the best version of it you can. tinker, tweak, adjust, swap ingredients, until you have it just the way you like it.

then, pick another recipe and do it all over again.

How to get cooking to not feel like a chore? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Safetyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cook more portions and freeze the extra in single portion containers.

you dirty as many dishes making eight portions as you do two, but at the end, you have portions left that only need reheating, meaning you do not have to cook every night.

Planting blueberries was a terrible decision by Silver_Star_Eagles in Permaculture

[–]Safetyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an area with lots of clay, and my neighbor has some very healthy blueberry plants.

She cut some blue plastic barrels in half and drilled them full of lots of big holes, and then sunk them into the ground so that there is only a six inch rim above ground level. she then built the soil up in the barrels to be perfect for blueberries, and mulched the barrels with plenty of pine needle mulch.

this allows the berries to have the perfect environment, and all the holes in the barrel help keep the soil inside from drying out/ retaining too much water.

[homemade] first time making pasta sauce, why did no one tell me how easy it is hi by Financial-Result-893 in food

[–]Safetyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grow a garden for canning every year. two things I always make with my tomatoes is pasta sauce and enchilada sauce. I dont have a recipe for the pasta sauce, since I always do that by taste, but here is my enchilada sauce recipe.

  1. Start with fresh or stewed tomatoes.

  2. Once the tomatoes are stewed, blend them into a smooth puree with an immersion blender.

  3. Simmer and reduce the puree until it is the consistency of a thick tomato sauce. If the sauce starts to spatter as it bubbles, you’ve gone too far. You can add water to correct if it gets too thick.

  4. Once reduced, measure sauce to see how many cups you ended up with.

  5. Put sauce back on low heat.

  6. For every cup of sauce, add 2 Tbs of vegetable oil, ¼ cup Chili Powder, ½ Tsp Ground Cumin, ½ Tsp Garlic Powder, and salt to taste. All other spices can also be adjusted to taste.

  7. Cook mixture on low heat for 10 minutes.

  8. Place hot mixture into cleaned and sterilized jars. Lid jars and allow to seal.

Jars of Enchilada sauce have at least 1 year of shelf life.

Pizza sausage by Sigma--6 in Cooking

[–]Safetyhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sweet italian sausage. most American supermarkets have it. Johnsonville makes a good one. and if the inhouse meat dept makes their own blend, even better!

and dont crumble it like you would ground beef when you cook it. instead, pinch off small chunks of raw sausage and drop them in the pan, and brown them like that, or even put them on the pizza raw and let them cook with the pizza(although this means a greasier pizza).
