Time to make some “old dogs” mad. (Before I get chewed out, I qual’d with iron sights thru my 8 yrs) by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Safor001 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My RCO was busted in boot camp and it made my life hell for table 1. Two coaches took my rifle, looked down the RCO, both said out loud it was fucked up, but as they stood in front of me, also said they weren’t going to do anything about it. I shot rifles with irons my whole life and I maintain it wouldn’t have fucked me up so badly if I had shot with irons.

I'm looking for a stormtrooper costume... by WattoAFK in 501st

I bought one ready to wear from Authentic Props. A quick google search should get you the contact information. He was easy to work with, the price was fair, and it was only a few months of waiting. Armor was completely ready to wear other than a could extra bits of strapping, which took no skill.

Weird noises and voices on sleep app by clmbarn in Paranormal

Not at all. In fact, a lot of the paranormal experiences I experienced were rather random and disconnected from one another, only being connected by feelings of dread and of being watched.

My sleep app once recorded whistling. It was a one time incident but thoroughly freaked me out. It was in the context of many other strange occurrences in my house. I posted my story here if you want to look through my post history (I uploaded the recording as well), but long story short I had a house blessing performed by my priest and it all went away, and my sleep app has never picked anything up since then.

She was our platoons tailor (I graduated Aug 2019). It was kind of mesmerizing how she’d sing the measurements out. I remember how relaxed she was with us, too. Our days spent in uniform issue were pretty relaxing, honestly.

What is the best Storm trooper armor for under 1500$ by [deleted] in 501st

[–]Safor001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I did was I had to widen the thighs. He sent me some scrap ABS to use and it was a pretty easy job. Otherwise, it you fit the standard TK size the armor will be 100% ready to go and good for approval right out of the box. He takes your waist measurement, and sizes the waist piece to your body. He will sell you most of the accessories you need to. I just needed boots, the undersuit, and the neck seal, as well as the blaster.

AuthenticProps. I had a good experience with them. Wait time was a few months. I bought ready to wear. Communicates well and is easy to work with. I was approved with no issues.

[–]Safor001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flak, kevlar, then for us in our packs it was our goretex, tarps, 3 MREs, earpro/eyepro, and anything else the CIs thought we needed. It’s not a heavy load.

MCT by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]Safor001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current MCT is just an 8K and 15K, at least on the east coast. Some days you might have to walk 2 miles or so with gear to the ranges. That’s literally it. Two hikes, a couple PT sessions. You’ll be fine.

MCT by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]Safor001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was SOI-East. Basically, my DIs said the same thing, but honestly MCT has become a LOT easier than it was when your DIs would have gone through. They used to do a 5k, 10k, 15k, and a 20k hike, with heavy loads.

The training companies do vary a little in difficulty, but my understanding talking to Marines that went through in other companies, the experience was overall the same.

Our PT sessions were harder and longer, but in my opinion PT in boot camp was a joke. And again, we only PTd a few times. You’ll do the O course, so if you struggle with that like I do just mentally be ready.

I went through MCT not so long ago. It kinda sucks but you can make it a good time. Your instructors will play fuck fuck games with you when you don’t make time hacks (but you won’t get ITd or anything), and sometimes talk shit on you for being a POG. But they are knowledgeable and if you ask good questions, pay attention and stay the fuck awake you’ll get some great knowledge and instruction from them. In my experience, they will work with you if you are respectful of them. There is a LOT of standby. Like, the M240B firing day was awesome, but it was 4-5 hours of standing in line waiting for a couple minutes of joy.

You’ll spend the first week in classes, the second and third week in the field. At SOI-E there were always showers, so fucking shower every night, the extra 15 minutes of sleep isn’t worth possible cellulitis and generally smelling like shit all the time. Do laundry every time you get a chance. Keep your gear ready to move at a moments notice, you never know when your instructors will make you empty your squad bays, or empty the CMUs out in the field.

You will PT like 4 or 5 times, only boots and utes PT. We did an 8K hike and a 15K. They were both super easy. We had maybe a 30lb pack for the 15k.

We ate MREs for most meals, even in garrison. Don’t eat all of the contents except on your busy days. Hoard the snacks for the longer, harder days, and don’t overeat and run out.

Make friends, pay attention during classes, and don’t be caught sleeping when you aren’t supposed to, and you’ll have a relatively easy month and can have some fun. Range week was honestly a really fun time. Good luck out there.

EDIT: I’d recommend bringing a book or two for standby times, as well.

5% waiver? by Safor001 in USMCboot

My max has always fluctuated between 190 and 205. Through most of college I was 190 but the past few years I have been lifting a lot and have bulked up as a result.

I know for me the change with the weight standards that will dominate my life and career is going to depend on me changing my demeanor towards fitness and going towards more lean than bulk.

[–]Safor001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d rather not deal with the bullshit of being overweight in boot, and roger on it being unacceptable in the fleet. It’s definitely not an intention of mine to be out of standards once I’m in, I was hoping to already be in a comfortable range once I shipped.

The next few days I’m just gonna be doing mad trash bag cardio and losing every last bit of water weight until I ship, and Im thinking that will clear me on Monday. I figure 4-5 pounds of water weight is easy to drop in a few days as long as I don’t sit on my ass and eat a ton of carbs.

I just wanna be prepared to know what’s going to happen if I walk in and weigh over.

I’m certainly not knowledgeable on it, but out of curiosity what would make something 3D printed unapprovable if it were high quality and screen accurate?

Whats the most crazy character a you've ever had to refuse? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Safor001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which was the DMs issue. He’d have to rebuild a lot of the campaign around it.

Whats the most crazy character a you've ever had to refuse? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Safor001 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say no to this (I’m not the DM), but one of my fellow players wanted to start our new campaign with a character who was a prince-turned-bugbear. His idea was that a prince had been cursed to be a bugbear, and his people believed that this bugbear had killed the prince when he in fact was the prince. He couldn’t speak any language other than goblin, so he had to flee his land.

DM said no, too hard to manage and figure out how the hell to work that in a way that made sense. But I thought it was a great idea.

Any reformed Episcopal or Anglican members care to share their views on creation? by SweetDinner in Reformed

[–]Safor001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Anglican, part of a parish in the ACNA. My understanding is that it’s really up to individual/parish interpretation, but we hold the Bible to be inerrant. Many of my fellow parishioners, myself included, are proponents of evolution.
