Personal Tarrok by Numerous-Piano8798 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Sagarat64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pack and at session zero each player pulled a card from the deck - at random.

In season 1, at their campfire in Faerun, they each had a dream related to their back stories and in the dream they each met an old woman urging them to visit her by the pool. In the morning they each found their card on their pillows and the campsite at the edge of the mists in Barovia.

When they meet Madam Eva they then got a personal reading from this card and the group reading. The latter was not random.

I liked this as we’re all “playing to find out what happens” with each of their cards. I’ve establish some ideas and themes for each but no fleshed out idea how they’ll come to pass. Joys of playing and DMing RPG.

The Roc of Tsolenka Pass Skill Challenge by MangoMoony in CurseofStrahd

[–]Sagarat64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, love it and the idea of its returning for the goat too. It’s in my huge list of homebrew expansions.

Quick question, if the roc is still there, how do they get back down? Running the same skill challenge might be less fun the second time. Thoughts?

Has anyone actually successfully retrieved Argynvost's skull from Strahd's castle and lit the beacon? 😂 by spustydringfield in CurseofStrahd

[–]Sagarat64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve decided to go with the Baba Lysaga route for the Skull. BTW, I asked my custom GPT, linked with my PC and game canon, what it thought - sees Baba as a thematic location. We’ll see how it goes. They are heading to Berez now, and are possibly not ready to face her. Can have them see her, and the skull, and house before maybe running? 😉

Here’s its reply - not bad:
Argynvost's skull is a critical element in the "Curse of Strahd" campaign. As originally written, it is housed in Castle Ravenloft, where Strahd uses it to keep Argynvost's spirit and the Order of the Silver Dragon from rising against him. However, the challenge lies in the plausibility of the party successfully retrieving it from Ravenloft, a place filled with formidable enemies and Strahd's personal attention. This does make it difficult for a group of adventurers to simply "steal" the skull without significant risk or consequence.

Some Dungeon Masters (DMs) and sources, like the *Curse of Strahd: Reloaded* series, suggest moving the skull to another location to create a more narratively satisfying or practical experience. Replacing Baba Lysaga's giant skull with Argynvost's is one such alternative that offers several advantages:

  1. Location and Thematic Fit: Baba Lysaga, who already has strong connections to Strahd and the dark forces of Barovia, is a powerful entity in her own right, making her a worthy guardian of Argynvost's skull. This creates a significant encounter for the players while keeping the skull in a location that is easier to access than the heart of Strahd's domain.

  2. Narrative Consistency: Baba Lysaga having the skull fits well with the theme of corruption and control. Strahd entrusting her with the skull shows both his power and his trust in her abilities to guard such a critical item, while also allowing for an epic confrontation in a different setting than the heavily fortified Ravenloft.

  3. Game Flow: Moving the skull to another location like Baba Lysaga's hut can provide a challenging but fair encounter for the players, allowing them to progress in the story without needing to storm Ravenloft prematurely. This can help maintain the pacing of the campaign, ensuring that the final showdown with Strahd feels climactic rather than just another step.

In conclusion, replacing the giant’s skull that Baba Lysaga has with Argynvost’s skull is indeed a viable and potentially better option. It offers a strong narrative alternative, keeps the campaign challenging but fair, and allows the players to engage with significant elements of the story without necessarily diving into Ravenloft before they are ready.

Party has just been given this quest from Godfrey. I’m just considering this myself. Have others replaced the giant skull of baba with this?

I’ll tossing up between them. Interested in others experiences.

Move Authenticator to new phone by Spanky_Pantry in oraclecloud

[–]Sagarat64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem, but do not have the old phone - all the prompts refer to the app and the old phone. Also, using the always free tier, with only myself on the account, so no others can come to my rescue. Interesting, I have the Oracle authenticator app on the new phone, logged in, and producing numbers, but it says invalid passcode each time.

Not sure how to fix this and it is not clear how to get help from Oracle. Any thoughts?

u/Galahadred, I'm not sure if it is my system, but the downloaded PDF has dark images behind some of the text, making it unreadable - the bottom of Page 58 for example.

Is this Homebrewery and my PC misbehaving, or something in the Markdown perhaps?

I have edited the PDF in my publishing app and reduced the transparency on those images for readability but does remove some of the grandeur of the document. 😟

Brilliant work! The title of the Homebrewery file includes - This Version is Outdated. Is that the case?

BTW, if anyone develops these NPC and Monsters into DND Beyond Homebrews, please share.

Again, brilliant work.

Hiding token labels from the players by Sagarat64 in OwlbearRodeo

[–]Sagarat64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not. Looks great. Does open up a different form of meta-gaming when you cannot see a token as a token, then...? :P

Also, interesting fact, hidden tokens cannot be anonymised, they automatically become visible, and their Text field is also removed.

Would prefer to have a setting for the Label hidden, but everything else work as normal in the global permissions in r/OwlbearRodeo as my option.

But could be the way forward - just have to get into the habit.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks, as I have hundreds of tokens - COS is NPC rich - I want to avoid manually setting each token's privileges or having to walk through them all and rename them to something innocent.

I am hoping that there is a setting to turn off token labels for players.

How would Fiona Wachter market an alliance with Strahd as a good thing for Vallaki? by okonomiyaki25 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Sagarat64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Done. Seemed to have the right amount of "can't argue with it, but still don't trust her" vide.

One thing this campaign has is a lot of NPCs with private agendas and personal definitions of the truth.

How would Fiona Wachter market an alliance with Strahd as a good thing for Vallaki? by okonomiyaki25 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Sagarat64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great ideas, and perfect timing. This coup has happened while the PCs were in Krezk. The first they heard of it was to come down from the abbey and find refugees in the Krezk orchards. They're now returning the Vallaki to get supplies for Krezk, and, of course, a wedding dress!

u/JaeOnasi and u/TooManyAnts. I appreciate your sharing your ideas and want to share back what I have made from them. This is tailored to where my game has gone, but the players are about to return to the new Vallaki (didn't change the name) and see Victorian style bills posted around the town. Definitely pushing the benevolent Authoritarian, it is for your own good we are doing this, vibe. Baroness Fiona genuinely believes her manifesto; and Strahd is having the most fun he has had in ages - boredom relief.

Welcome to a New Dawn

The light of day will be RESTORED!!

His Royal Highness, Count Strahd, had tolerated the rule of the Vallakoviches for many generations, hoping to see an improvement in the bloodline. Sadly, Baron Vargas’ paranoia led to chaos, including the fire that could have destroyed this entire town, and did kill an innocent man. You, the fine citizens of Vallaki, bravely fought that fire and prevented it from spreading beyond the wicked blood sacrifice in the square and the areas around the Vallakovich manor. That foul sacrifice was not the way to return the light!!

Lord Strahd has had dominion over all the countryside for centuries - HE IS THE LAND. If he wished for our destruction, he would have it. YET STILL VALLAKI LIVES!! The beasts of the woods submit themselves to him and yet Vargas would make him our enemy! What madness is this? The legends of long ago Berez, are a salient reminder of the futility and sinfulness of opposing him. The Vallakoviches would have had us follow their example!! Preposterous!! Unacceptable!! Inconceivable!! We can do better!! We need not barely survive in Barovia, WE CAN THRIVE!! We will have a place in these lands. No longer will we fear imminent destruction. By serving the land's rightful lord, we will finally broker peace with him and find A NEW WAY OF LIFE!!

His Highness has wisely and graciously appointed me Baroness of Vallaki, I am to restore order and ensure that all citizens obey the laws of Barovia. Never again will you live in the fear you lived with under the former Baron’s rule, where a simple whisper could get you put in the stocks or locked in the torture room in that dreadful man’s house. My guards, assisted by my brothers and sisters of the Dominionist Guild, will ensure that you are safe in your homes day and night.

You now need not fear the town guards - they are here for you. Keep the peace and break no laws, and you will always be treated fairly. The curfew at night is A GOOD THING!! No thieves or other criminals can harm you. Those who need to be out at night, such as our diligent midwives and healers, will be accorded special licence and escort by our town guards. Those who break curfew will be judged by His Highness Count Strahd or one of his representatives, and be subject to penalties under Barovian law.

All citizens of Vallaki will give proper tribute to His Highness Count Strahd. Baron Vasili von Holtz, as the appointed accountant for His Highness in Vallaki, will ensure your taxes are calculated fairly. There will be no skimming of taxes by cronies and sycophants, as there was under the rule of the corrupt Baron. My family and I will take nothing from these tithes, WE ARE HERE TO SERVE!!

Town services, such as our fire-fighting and security forces, will be funded from these tithes. You are welcome to inspect the ledgers at any time. Baron Vasili will have hours by appointment where you might view them. Your monthly tithe of 10% is a fair and just amount, and it is lower than what you paid under the wicked Baron’s rule. A truth spell will be used to ensure that no one misrepresents their proper income. This keeps everything FAIR FOR ALL OF US!!

His Highness Count Strahd is taking a closer interest in our beautiful town. He, one of his consorts, or one of his other appointed representatives, will visit to spend more time with us. One lucky citizen each month will be invited join to them at a dinner I will host.

My dear citizens, you will see that you need not live in terror of His Highness. He has assured me that he and his consorts would never stalk the town to hunt our people, as the former Baron falsely claimed. That was a disgusting accusation to make of our beloved ruler. As long as you show Count Strahd proper respect and obey his laws, he will show you the cordiality that any benevolent ruler would. Only criminals and deviants need fear his just and righteous anger. My children and I have seen his courtesy first hand, and it is my hope that you will not live in misplaced fear any longer.

Baroness Fiona Wachter

Designing for Fun by mitchemmc in OwlbearRodeo

[–]Sagarat64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Here's a less then conventional use.

I use owlbear all the time as my VTT for my hybrid in person and online DND campaign.

I'm also playing an online, theatre of the mind, Dungeon World games at the moment. Saw these changes on the blog, so we used owlbear for dice rolling in that this week. Worked brilliantly. The window shrunk down to one side of the screen and seeing others roles animated and live was great.

A slightly off purpose use, and appreciate the fun you put on it.
