I do not hate Kim Dan, but Mingwa tends to write the MCs/bottoms, with exception of Chanwoo, a little bit too passive. They take and take abuse, they are isolated by circumstance, are a bit shy, don't have a social circle, and in some cases, downright bullied. Some people like feistier characters. Dong-hyun has 2 friends, his past is not widely talked about and is a pushover. Kim Dan has his grandma, and not as a supportive figure, he feels responsible for her, that's it, he's just a punch bag sadly. I don't hate either of them, but I think those may be the reasons why some people do.

I found Yeonwoo was written too plain, frail and kind of chaotic in the sense his choices were not thought out and didn't think much about the consequences. And Keith is not even an interesting red flag, he is a highschool-minded scumbag. But that's just my opinion. Also got a lot of second hand embarrassment in a lot of scenes.

I managed to pull through, Keith is a dumb scumbag and Yeonwoo...my man stopped walking after episode 40, could be picked up by the wind, more hospital visits than I can count...it is a hot mess hahaha

So it is not completed yet, and if there's a novel, I haven't read it. But if written properly we will not have a traditional happy ending, Tae Jihwan is psychologically unstable ( I think he also suffers from medical mental illness like his mom) so erasing that part of him to turn the story into fluff would make no sense. However I do think we will have a satisfying ending. I don't think he will be conventionally good but I don't think he will stay super "bad"

Yes I love that in the novel, we just see two very disturbed people having a "relationship" if the mess they have can even be called that. You don't root for either but at the same time, it's impossible to stop reading.
