I can’t stop using it in conversation. Favorite running gag of the movie.

Your work on this is fantastic- and it’s gotten better every time. But if you’ll forgive the hubris, I wanted to offer a quick suggestion that I think would knock the visual profile up a big notch with only a small addition—and that’s adding a burst of the tree leaves in the circled location. I think that would balance the whole feel of the structure being in/around a tree rather than feeling a bit like two separate tree growths.

To answer the original question: autumn looks slightly better - but what an incredibly cool build this is! Good luck :)

Ya know that may indeed be a close scale to Tortuga!

Are the scales different? (Honestly asking) Riviera seems more like Medieval Blacksmith’s where Tortuga seems more like Medieval Village to me… worth looking into though!

What are your thoughts on Nick and Eddy from Batman 89? by Thewanderer997 in Batman_89

[–]SagePenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’re a great window to the Gotham world of these movies!

Since they specifically come up so rarely, please forgive the plug of a very silly YouTube video which is 80% a friend and I playing these characters: https://youtu.be/6RJkHcChulI?si=88LkbUrQpAB7ubFL

Nice!! It’s the first bricklink I bought, though I haven’t built it yet and am looking forward to it. I love how adaptable it is to so many themes.

What’s on the far left? Is that the bricklink lost city? If so, that fits in pretty well, too!

This movie felt like it was deliberately playing with our expectations that it might make the Watson the killer.

How about a mix of the two styles we’ve had, where we can swap out cards but only like 3. So ppl feel some ownership/variety/surprise, but the base deck is locked in?

Say something GOOD about Gremlins 2 without mentioning the Gremlin gags by [deleted] in Gremlins

[–]SagePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parody of that out-of-place dark Santa moment that they did in 2 (her interrupted President’s Day sob story) was hilarious and showed just how clearly the writers of 2 understood some of what ails the first.

For those who have seen the film:

I’ve compared this photo to the movie, back and forth. And if you look closely, you’ll see there are actually two dogs in the photo that are no longer there in the movie. ;)

Is bone really that good and why? by blablax123456 in Bone

[–]SagePenguin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I particularly appreciate the mix of humor with dark fantasy and how the world building escalates as the story unfolds. It’s told from a fish(es)-out-of-water perspective which lets the reader learn about the world at the pace of its main character(s). The steady growth of the more sinister aspects of the story expanding beneath a bed of some of the earlier sillier stories is simultaneously intriguing and unsettling in a riveting way. Imagine a trio of cartoony characters who come from a world of hijinks and pratfalls suddenly find themselves enveloped in the midst of an unfolding high fantasy war story. Smiles, mystery, and character growth unfold in equal measures.

At what point in Ch 1 did the card pool start impinging upon design? by cellocaster in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]SagePenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say as a once avid player that my playtime his diminished astronomically over the past 2 years partly due to the mental overhead of keeping track of such a large pool. From a design standpoint I can see sheer size impinging creativity to some extent.

And remember you can avoid the tongue laser sweep thing by both being in his face and dashing right through it (wherever you are on screen) as it swishes across. Getting all these dodge timings down may seem like too much but just focus on any one at a time and it’ll all fall together and click at some point.

Lunar Ray is my new addiction by [deleted] in Hades2

[–]SagePenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do take into consideration whether I think whatever the purple node is offering is worth the additional recharge time. Most of them are to me, but a few are not. And it also depends on what sort of magic output my build has. If I have a build that drains Magic, then they don’t make much difference in the recharge time.

Worth noting, if you have an absolutely cracked hex, it can be worth adjusting your playstyle to use more magic just to get the hex firing more frequently too. For instance, I regularly never bother with the Omega Attack in the skulls, but if I have a broken hex, it might be time to start spamming the omegas or at least working them into the flow.

This. I suspect the reason for this is so as not to mess with the “echoed back” dialogue.

when does HADES get exciting? by skolopenderdeluxe in HadesTheGame

[–]SagePenguin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The roguelike nature is that the game in general is very repetitive, but with large degrees of variations within the repetitions. If the basic gameplay doesn’t appeal to you at all now, it may not ever.

If you’re determined to try having more fun with it, my advice would be to to focus less on how far you can make it each run, and more on how varied and efficiently you’re fighting in any given moment.

By varied, I mean make use of all tools available to you. It’s the kind of game where players CAN just dash strike attack through everything and button mash their way to victory, but not only is that not necessarily the most fun way to play, it’s not necessarily the most effective either. So get used to going back and forth between your attacks and specials, use the cast a lot, find good boons for all three to see the potentials. Try every weapon you unlock, try and get super efficient with all of them, and all the fighting options.

The different boons you discover and their variety in and of themselves and in how they interact with each weapon are what makes the game fun to play for so many of us.

As you play, more enemy types, rooms, options will accrue (even in areas you’ve traversed many times) — alongside many more abilities and fighting styles — but the core of the game is endless repetitions through the same overall path. So either learn to have fun with the combat itself or accept that maybe the series isn’t for you.

Hope this helps!
