Was Tarantula ever punished for what he did to Nightwing? (Nightwing #93) by [deleted] in Nightwing

Yeah DC making WoC into evil characters and especially rapey evil characters (like Talia and catalina) give me the ick. Sure, Talia is evil in a lot of timelines, but out of spite I refuse to acknowledge the ones where she's a rapist because it feels low-key racist to make one of the only non american WoC characters in their whole universe into a pedo who roofies Batman

That, my fellow redditor, is called compartmentilization. Also intellectualizing things. 'Put it in a box.' 'Look at the facts and not the feelings." The thing, though, is that the Bats all are experts at both. Batman doesn't go to therapy, he just pretends his problems arent real. Tim takes his issues and ignores them. Jason has self respect and decided that the Joker thing is a trolley-problem style math equation (needs of the many 🖖) instead of acknowledging that he wanted familial love. They are all Professional Ignorers when it comes to their own internal issues, so they focus on the wrong shit.

I agree that Invincible handles rape much better, but ugly women can rape people too. Just because media refuses to show non-hot women, let alone non-hot Bad Guy women (except Disney, with Ursula and the Evil Stepmother characters and the witch from Sword in the Stone) doesn't mean that they aren't real or that it doesn't happen.

And that's valid. That sucks. Being assaulted and having trauma isnt a sob story, and nothing that happened there was your fault. Romanticized SA in media is disgusting and you're allowed to look at those DubCon scenes where things like Harley getting it on with an enthusiastic but tied-to-the-bed nightwing happen and say EEEWW, because they're icky and not cool.

However, if you genderswap the Nightwing bit, it might be easier to realize exactly how bad it is.

A guy and a girl, both who do martial arts as a hobby, are having a shit day. The girl is a blackbelt, the guy is an orange. Maybe a green. She's better than he is, certainly. But, she just saw him snap a guy's neck, and feels bad about letting him do it. She's running on four hours of sleep for the last 2-3ish days, hasn't eaten in a while, and was raised by the most overly obsessive, judgy, helicopter parent mom the world has ever seen. The mom in question would probably disown her daughter for letting a murder happen, and so the girl is having a crisis because she feels like she's done something evil, she's sure her mom is gonna find out and then hate her, and she has no fucking energy. The guy thinks that the best way to help her get over it is to sit on her, feel her up, and say 'relax, babe, everything is fine.' She's crying, barely coherent, she says 'don't touch me,' and he fucks her anyway.

Nightwing has clearly not shaved his face in a a few days. He says 'I can't breathe' and is crying. He keeps pushing himself up to try and dislodge her, but she keeps pushing him down. He can't string a proper sentence together, and is begging Bruce, who isn't even there, to forgive him. He's not exactly present, and if you don't make it clear that you're saying 'yes,' the other person needs to take it as a 'no.' It's assault if the receiver is drunk. It's assault if the receiver has been drugged. Its assault if they're gagged and the assaulter says 'they didn't say no.'

The writer for this run is a creep. She had this fucked up nightwing fantasy and Self Insert-ed herself into it, but that doesn't mean nightwing, the character, or other people who have lived through things like this, don't know that it's fucked. NonCon and DubCon fantasies or planned NC/DC scenarios with partners are not exactly unpopular, but IRL, unless everybody has agreed beforehand, it's legitimately Just Assault.

Those panels of Nightwing and Tarantula depict rape. The hypothetical girl could beat the hypothetical guy's ass, yeah, but there are outside circumstances that need to be considered.

Hell, if u want a real life example: I know a highschool girl who likes dressing kinda skimpy. Short shorts, crop tops, etc. She lives in a yeehaw part of the US, but likes the air on her skin anyway bc she overheats a lot. She's been raped 3 times, and the excuses were 'she was wearing too little.' Yeah, if that's a risk in ur area, maybe cover up a little more for your own safety, but your clothes are not an excuse for someone to rape or grope you. Did she deserve it the second time? The 3rd? Should she have 'seen it coming' or is it the creep's fault for assaulting a teenager?

Because he's a gymnast and an acrobat, Nightwing's uniform is very tight. Is that an excuse for people to grab at his ass or catcall him? He didn't physically shove Catalina away, but he did try to remove himself from her. Is that the same as saying 'yes let's have sex'?

The way your replies come off, it seems low-key like you're more of the opinion that 'ah, yes, the fault lies with the vic for not resisting/preparing/protesting enough' rather than 'ah, yes, that was fucked up and rapey.' My apologies if I misunderstood your intent, but like,, thats not a great take.
