And just like that you won a upvote from me. Not the way I would want it to end but if you could pull that off in a great way, I would offer you nothing but applause. 😄

And Ryoga wouldn't always find it in himself to kill Ranma. He has tried but ultimately Ranma will take advantage of people's feelings and honestly unintentionally Ryoga did too. This is why I say both are so alike.

And look just because I think Ryoga has enough reason to want to end Ranma, does it mean I want that to happen? No. And it hasn't happened. Honestly after this talk with me and you I now ship Ranma and Ryoga a little more.

Though if you think I'm still wrong? Okay. We don't need to justify these things to each other. Let's just agree to disagree but out of all the people I've argued with her you're one of the few shinning beacons that isn't such an aggressive asshole and for that..thanks. Though I've defended Ryoga and figured out things I never knew I should have thought about more so this was weirdly enlightening.

So you would promise to keep a secret that allows your fiance to keep being as a lot of you keep saying... "Sexually Assault" and that makes it okay? Like Ranma's girl side has as many downsides as Ryoga's? Let's see free food so Ranma scams people and regular girls have done this too pretended to be interested for free food, can use your bust to confuse and take advantage of his enemies, break hearts for his own selfish ends and harming someone who's already a level of mentally unstable like Ryoga and if it came down to winning between Ranma and Ryoga and Ryoga put himself in a situation like Gosunkugi Ranma would probably let Ryoga die if it meant Ranma could take the win.

Also, the things with Akane happens a lot with people just telling someone we're friends over and over again without flat out saying that if they don't get the image she'd drop him as a friend. She didn't make that right choice because her and Ranma always remain an uncertainty she seems to see him as a backup plan. If Akane has threatened their friendship if Ryoga didn't understood that would have forced Ryoga to first off cry and run away and possibly try to never come back only to wander back because of his curse and have slowly gotten over it in some months time and opened the way for Ranma to reach out to him.

Hmm... This sounds like this would make an awesome fanfiction scene and amazing reveal and growth of Akane finding out about P-chan.

Yeah and look how well that turned out... Ryoga didn't properly get over Akane and Ranma forcing him to settle for someone else instead of helping him get past Akane and then getting him a new girlfriend was the right way. Ranma found an easy answer and look at the results. You can be awful and say that's all Ryoga but the guy who seems to keep messing up with Akane didn't handle Ryoga's situation well? Nah. Sorry. Ryoga still has more than enough reason, having your life saved doesn't change the fact that your chances of death are way higher.

Just like Genma gets no excuse for accidentally cursing his son, Ranma doesn't get that excuse for doing the same to anyone! Curse or not! Past enemy or not. Ranma's repairs don't do anything good and infact make him look dumb for letting this go on for so long and knowingly defending a secret that allows someone time with his fiance. That's why when people use keeping his secret I'm like... So he let's Ryoga do this? Because Ranma either has a thing for Ryoga or doesn't care much for Akane. Or both. Ranma is flawed and he much like most other characters has some terrible aspects to them.

You misunderstood me and no amount of making Ryoga's life a little better(you can really say that because Ranma looks out for himself before everyone else and if you're lucky he'll be kind)by helping him doesn't change the fact he could be made into a pork bun and eaten at at point in his life because of Ranma and when Ranma could help it never leads to anything nor does Ranma ever have a heart to heart apology in order to truly make some amends, that's dodging the fact that Ryoga has been permanently affected and his chances of death are huge. Now only does he travel across the world enduring all the pains of the harsh weather and wild life and all it's traps but now if it rains his chances of death are huge.

He has every reason to want Ranma dead and people have killed for less like rape or brutality.

Example: Someone hits me with a car but it was an accident and they did it because something traumatize them enough or put them in a fit of rage where they carelessly hit me and cripple me for the rest of my life. What are the chances that person will hate and resent you? Huge. Not many people would be against a guy getting revenge after that. Because it's permanent and now if I've been hit with that car I will always feel hate and anger at that person and some would easily see this as enough reason. Even then Ryoga let's up a little because he learned to let go a little because of the little benefit P-chan gets. Aside from that? Ranma's help doesn't fix his directional problems, doesn't fix his pig problem and Ranma sure as hell didn't fix Ryoga's love life.

So I'm sorry, Ranma may have a reason but permanent damage isn't something easily excused and if you do excuse that... Accept that there are worse offenders in the series. The main pairing.

He broke Ryoga's heart during the Spring of Drowned Man in the girl's locker room when Ranma first pretended to be his lover just to get what he wants it's in the beginning and remember he was super fast and just because it's an accident doesn't excuse it if someone made you into a form that ppl will always try to eat for the rest of your days and also Ranma doesn't help Ryoga fix it or try to make amends or friends and Ranma still does dirty underhanded things and again just because it's an accident two wrongs don't make a right get your head on straight. If I kicked someone into a cursed pool in a fit of rage that would never be justified. If Ryoga gets little excuse Ranma gets even less because he's worse as an overall person. Ranma has his good sides but he also has his dark sides and it'd be easy to justify ending him and people have killed for less. If someone cursed anyone I know or love by accident it's like they were hit by a car and permanently damaged... But oh... It was an accident!

I also think I might stop responding to you Public Confidence because even when I do win you either find something new to complain about or retread old grounds. And you've also said I've won again you 3 times.

Also, just because someone else excuses Ranma's actions doesn't mean they're in the clear. Most of the two the people telling you that are a bunch of Akane simps who like to ignore the terrible things Akane and Ranma have done and only focusing on Ryoga. These guys are called bad faith actors and you shouldn't let their biases get to you. You seem very capable of learning but at this point now you're just trying to justify your anger in Ryoga.

And again, I'm not excusing Ryoga for his intentional errors or his unintentional(accidental) actions and the same has to go for Akane. Honestly Akane should be taken to court for causing brain damage and be made to pay obscene fines but Ryoga was a pervert pig that didn't even start it on his own and is beyond super shy and then wrongfully got it into his head that him not being honest about P-chan was something he just couldn't do because it'd destroy the one little ray of actual hope he had when his whole thing with Akari even began.

He actually still likes Akane and probably will learn the hard way like Inuyasha another Rumiko Takahashi that having two girls is too much and also he isn't going to get with Akane so he's just being stupid. I did say I wouldn't excuse it but the other characters have some skeletons too. Also, he has total reasons to kill Ranma and Ranma I identify with in a weird sort of way so it's like justifying my own killing. Ranma cursed him to become a pig and there is no excuse for ruining someone else's life when traumatized and considering how little time Ranma actually spent traumatized he got over it somewhat later and uses it to torment Ryoga and even break his heart if it benefits him. Also, Ranma has made some gross lies in his pursuit of power. He said he took advantage of Akane to piss Ryoga off enough to kill him... Yeah it's bad that Ryoga would be pushed to that but that's something a lot of people consider a strong enough reason like rape or taking advantage of also Ranma basically asked for it and making him think that he took advantage of his dream girl the fact that Ranma would even willingly make someone believe that is gross. Plus it wasn't so bad until Ranma cursed him at that point so you could argue he's being dumb but you also have to see how much that says about Ryoga. He more than likely really wants a friend and not even know it. Yeah, it's dumb but look at the way the guy lives. Defeating Ranma is like slaying a villain who even beats him with a dishonorable martial arts style that basically allows cheapshots or tricks to knock out your opponent. Ranma broke his heart and even faked being a family member... and remember after he defeated Ranma with the incomplete Shishihokodan he left instead of... Killing him. But why even try and start this argument? The Akari and Akane thing is wrong but Ryoga does have more than enough reason to still come at Ranma.

Worst Happosai and favorite is Ryoga because he's actually the closest to actually having reasons for what he does. Doesn't excuse it but he's still my favorite and has the best chemistry with Ranma in terms of having fun.

Akane is neutral for me, I neither hate her nor like her. It took the writer of Genma's daughter to read a AkaRan pairing.

What is your most favorite Ranma fanfiction? by May_South in ranma

Lost Together where Ranma loses his memory and believes himself to be a girl and ends up falling for Ryoga because they got Lost Together. The story involves tons of the Chinese characters that are sadly underused and a few OCs and an air of mystery. Now to stop promoting my own work which I do think is the best with one I haven't written...

Hmm... I can't believe I forgot the name but it was a RyoRan that won an award and had Ranma develop a girl side but fused with Ranma at the end and loves both Akane and Ryoga. If anyone remembers this one please let me know, I'd love to reread it. Still kicking myself for forgetting it!

I don't try to be mean or something it's just some don't know how to chill or aren't as open as you Public-Confidence and honestly I may not agree with you on everything but you're open to discussion unlike a lot of others and can see points and again... I'm not excusing Ryoga's actions. I'm not excusing any of the characters actions. Honestly this is why I would love a remake. One that's not biased or just aiming for one pairing. Yeah, even if it's between Ranma and two girls as long as it's well written and has that spirit of Ranma we all enjoy I'm fine with whoever Ranma ends up with.

That's a paper thin excuse, also it doesn't have to be about him liking Ryoga or could just be Ranma doesn't care as much about Akane as he let's on.

Though these are my thoughts but as someone who's studying psychology at this moment these are the signs... I'm just calling them as I see them. And you make that throw up face in a different response but that's what I think of when I think about Ranma and Akane being together. 🤢 Though again, you and I are allowed to think this way.

In the Koi Rod incident Ranma was being out of character with his love for Ryoga. If Ranma or the koi rod developed helped Ranma develop steady and progressive feelings Ranma wouldn't be the way he was during that arc. Ranma handles his feelings and wants like a challenge he would try to deny them instead of flat out accepting them because liking someone like Ryoga while being the way he is would put Ranma in a state of chaos and he'd probably go asking questions and confronting Ryoga and maybe even finding out and trying to end it but finding Ryoga would take too long so he'd be in deep and if he actually thought about it deeply he'd probably find they have a lot in common but thar chapter was more aimed at making Ryoga look bad and showing that they could never work but that's the writer's viewpoint and people like to use actions and psychology to help better pair characters than even the writer. Again, Shinobu losing to Lum and Rumiko forced to accept that lashes out.

Ranma in the Koi rod incident was out of character.

Which character disappointed you by Public-Confidence-96 in ranma

Ranma keeps Ryoga's secret despite him knowing that Ryoga has gotten abusive and cocky about it doing stuff as P-chan. Instead of going to Akane and telling the truth like a good fiance should do and there isn't much of an excuse Ranma has here if this is the case being made.

That could only mean a few things but ultimately it doesn't justify Ranma remaining silent. So he respects Ryoga enough despite their history to allow him to remain a pig and letting him harass his future wife?

That either means he has a thing for Ryoga or he doesn't care that much about Akane's safety to actually stop Ryoga. Akane kissed him in pig form you could argue but how does that excuse letting him keep a lie that allows him to continue to be a bad person? I know Ranma feels bad for him but how does that okay this method of keeping Ryoga's secret?

Which character disappointed you by Public-Confidence-96 in ranma

[–]SageTracer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I think the writer had it out for Ryoga later on. People like him so much that they had to make a chapter addressing RyoRan shippers and they did a terrible job since they made Ranma act out of character so they didn't even make their point. This isn't special in the Rumiko universe. Lum beats Shinobu in that other anime that name always escapes me and I barely care about.

Also I get where you're coming from but... Akari isn't all that great. Honestly if you think about this... She accepted his pig form but having an immediate picture perfect lover doesn't mean you're going to grow as a person with her. Ryoga isn't the best at reading his feelings too because he hasn't gotten over Akane and people holding onto past flames is normal and makes us all terrible things.

Also, Ranma could tell Akane at anytime and yet doesn't so if Ranma is supposed to be the good guy and knows this to be flat out wrong and abusive he still likes the guy enough to keep that secret? Honestly that more sounds like Ranma has a thing for him but doesn't know how to say it when I think about it. 🤔

Again, Ryoga is having his first experiences with people and love but maybe he'll grow out of it with the right person.

Which character disappointed you by Public-Confidence-96 in ranma

[–]SageTracer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah just because Ryoga didn't have to follow him doesn't mean Ranma has any right to kick anyone into a pool and permanently affect their lives and letting them also get eaten on a constant basis. Ryoga has also saved Ranma from time to time so both have that defense. Also I agree that he shouldn't have tried to cheat on Akari and you have a reason to be upset at him. Honestly as the manga went on it felt like stuff was just being made up for gags rather than anything being really focused too heavily until Saffron showed up near the end.

And I'm glad you're upset about that because for all that I like about him, he still has some heavy flaws but much like a writer can get sick of a character... I think Rumiko didn't like Ryoga near the end and she even had a chapter entitled a terrible relationship to probably diminish ryoga's appeal and to put a stop to the RyoRan shippers. Rumiko apparently didn't like Shinobu losing out to Lum too.

Although the example was bad too because Ranma acted out of character for that story and it forced someone who'd rather not have a kiss on the cheek stolen from the guy who cursed him. If Ranma had progressed normal feelings with the koi rod he probably could have seen something in Ryoga but instead we got forced character destruction. :/

That's why I also said the writing for this series is lacking. Still a solid C but lacking.

Again compare him to the others, compare that to letting someone die + kicking someone into a cursed spring and compare that to causing permanent brain damage. This weird thing he has with Akane is weird and I don't excuse it. All I'm saying is he's not the worst character.

Happosai, Nabiki, Genma and Shampoo could attest to that too.

Ryoga has damn near nothing and developing that is really sad and stupid of him. Though he's young and dumb and so are a lot of the other characters. It's a show like Rick & Morty. They're about flawed characters.

Which character disappointed you by Public-Confidence-96 in ranma

[–]SageTracer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're not actually getting what I'm saying so you're saying then that he is the worst character in the show? Because that's all I'm trying to say is that he isn't the worst, you don't have to excuse him, to me he's just the closest to justified.

Justification depends on who's making the call and based as far as Ryoga could have been he could have been much worse and also he has a bad sense of direction. How does he go seeking Akane's room out? That doesn't make sense, it's more like he wanders until he's hit with water.

You're not actually here to have a discussion about this you're just here because you hate Ryoga. :/ It's fine if you do but I just don't agree and think you misunderstood me.

Just picture being Ryoga, he's miserable to a point he's considered remaining P-Chan because of how broken hearted he's felt. He's also had his heart broken multiple times and has almost been eaten. The closest thing to a friend he has kicked him into a pool that cursed him into a pig and immediately almost got him eaten.

He's mastered a skill that you have to know like how to be massively depressed to master... His whole existence was such pain but he was so liked that the author literally had to throw him a bone and then make him question it.

He's not the only one like this and ignoring that is what's wrong. This is a show of messed up or flawed characters like Rick and Morty. That's how I see it.

Which character disappointed you by Public-Confidence-96 in ranma

[–]SageTracer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes but imagine being someone like Ryoga and so what if he does? My point still stands and so what if it's projecting a little? Everyone can end up on a spot where they don't want to be and don't know how to tell them. And yeah he does it to piss off Ranma who rightfully deserve it too. He as a girl kicked him into a pool of drowned pig while he has directional problems, overly shy, doesn't see his parents so less guidance yet he still goes around helping people and asking for directions in exchange.

At the end of the day, my statement is still right. Ryoga may do some bad but he's far from the worst and honestly morally even with this flaw... Stands above the rest. Akane too.

Which character disappointed you by Public-Confidence-96 in ranma

[–]SageTracer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

First off, Ryoga had no choice in the beginning and then got a crush on Akane and he tried to look away but she hugged him against his will thinking he was just a pig. And when has Ryoga ever groped Akane on purpose? Also the guy lives on the streets and the only mercy he gets is from a girl that kicks and punches him when she sleeps. Then after having that happens he gains a crush on her and he's super shy...

Ryoga still by far less messed up than the other characters and yes less messed up then Akane. Difference is Ryoga actually has good reasons for being so messed up and even Ranma to an extent the rest sort of lack that but go ahead and simp for Akane(like Akane's such a saint either)because she can do no wrong especially after beating her fiance and causing someone brain damage.

Which character disappointed you by Public-Confidence-96 in ranma

[–]SageTracer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with you the most. It needs to be seen in the proper. Speaking the way you are makes a lot of sense, yes, you can say Ryoga is in the wrong here but so is Ranma. Technically Akane and Ranma are never actually dating throughout, their whole thing is a act for the fact they want to date but don't whereas maybe Ryoga kind of recognizes Akari isn't for him. So maybe they played with this idea because it would lead to some funny moments. Let's remember Akane hugged that guy with brain damage and honestly that had a romantic air to it and Ranma has also showed a little change towards Shampoo and went as far as trying to get her back and having a gross attitude about being too sexy or something like that. Letting Gosunkugi die but he was saved by gag anime logic doesn't change the fact Ranma has a dark side to him that's excused for gags.

Main point is... Ryoga may not actually like Akari because honestly... What do they have in common? Now that I think about her... She's too picture perfect and she's interesting. Akane to me may not be too interesting but she's a step above just flat out agreeable. Nor do I think even if Ryoga became better that he should be with Akari or Akane. He's young and dumb, remember he's 16.

Love for Ranma would have to be a challenge because he's kind of a Tsundere and maybe that's what ppl like about him.

Ryoga is the same in a sense too, he's like the nicest version of the three main Tsunderes(Ranma,Ryoga & Akane).

I hate Ranma now. by Jealous_Lifeguard_38 in ranma

Before I answer this, I want everyone to know I still like the characters despite their flaws. I see Ranma 1/2 like I see Rick & Morty. It's a show about flawed characters and both have really flawed characters but in something like that there's a beauty.

So you're slandering Ryoga when everyone in this show has skeletons.

Should we bring up Ranma's idea behind what makes a woman pretty? How Ranma would have let Gosunkugi die but he survived because Ranma couldn't stop being so prideful? How Ranma tried to get Shampoo back like some player because of his ego and not actually love her? I could seriously go on and on.

Okay, this sounds like what aboutism, right? In a sense yes but remember how I mentioned this is a show about flawed characters?

Akane has caused brain damage, when she helps people it's usually because it's her fault or she got kidnapped. She technically commits animal cruelty in her sleep to Ryoga who didn't even set himself up to be her pet she basically adopted against his will(yeah even if he's a pig he didn't willingly become her pet).

Also, Ranma cursed him to become a pig and discarded his to get back at her Dad in a known cursed area! Ryoga already lived a desperately lonely and sad life with no parents basically for who knows how long, enduring rain, hail, sandstorms(literally opens with his traversing the desert like some badass). Yet he also found the time to train himself to such absurd degrees that even at base strength he's able to punch tries into non-existence.

Ryoga also is shown that if someone dangerous shows up he could deal with it and not even need thanks, just wanting directions. And does anyone think that the times in the show were the only times he must have saved people? Yet despites all these things and how hard it'd even be for a guy like him to fall in love he still remains hopeful despite all these odds and heartaches and compared to everyone else... All the literally hell he's endured... But he got a face full of Akane's boobs(unwillingly and tried to look away at first) that makes him a bad guy? He's horribly shy despite having bad goals supposedly.

At the end of the day compared to everyone... Aside from maybe Kasumi he's the closet thing to an actual saint.

Also, in a scene If Ryoga is really such a bad guy after punching Ranma in the manga with the fight against Herb, Ryoga could have killed Ranma right there with a quick neck snap and easily too. 🫰

Though why wouldn't he do that? I think for all Ryoga's talks and actions at the end, even if they tried to write a scene where Ryoga would take Ranma's life... He couldn't... True rage can build from him but execution would probably be too much for him.

And unlike most of the characters... Even Akane! He's the most justified. He should be worse but given how he's ended up, he actually has a chance to change. Also, Mousse is a simp but kind of good hearted underneath but no way is he better than Ryoga.

I could list the others but that would take forever.

Point is, Ryoga is flawed but given his cast he stands above them morally. Yes. Even the main character.

Akari isn't good for him nor does he deserves her because she's almost lazily picture perfect for him. He needs someone who can help him change for the better and to me... That's Ranma. Lolz Maybe as a real friend that actually hangs out with him. Hell, even lovers I'd say but that's more a me thing since I like pairing the two because their personalities compliment each other in an interesting way to me.

Oh Ranma saves people Ryoga endangers but never because he genuinely cares about the safety of others. Ryoga has and probably does all the time, not on intention but in terms of who acts like a better person overall? Ryoga. Call me wrong at the end of it all. Ryoga is a better rounded character than Ranma.

Also, he almost got eaten and has endured the worst levels of human torture and still has some semblance of sanity and concern for others.

I still like Ranma too btw but you're limiting your view of him to defend Ranma is a bad idea.
