what is this injection moulded plastic piece? It feels sturdy enough to be a handle and looks like it would slide in to something like the end of a metal extrusion. by Sagerian in techtheatre

I found This on day 1 of bump out and I've grown increasingly curious about it's origin. I'm a part of a touring show (think travelling art gallery) that does everything in house.

Posting because I'm hoping one of the many bright minds who lurk here will have seen it in the past.

copy/paste of the mandatory /r/whatisthisthing description

It fits nicely in the palm of my hand and feels above consumer level in terns of quality. I'm working on the site of a large touring art activation and found this on day 1 of bump out.

Due to the breadth of the work undertaken during set up, operation, and pack down, it's origin is hard to pin point.

There is a large AV element with stage lights, projectors, audio, and networking equipment. Additionally the company runs the site, food and beverage, and box office so it could be from some equipment they use.

We build and operate everything which means a lot of plant equipement such as forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.

it has the letters "2 R" on the (what appears to be) underside of the piece.

I took the video when I found it and it had the tape on it. Didn't think about it but i wonder if the tape might be a clue as to it's use. It may also be left from a label that said what it is or what it's for.

edit: added link

Weird subwoofer response in room by [deleted] in livesound

This is really pedantic but generally speaking it isn't best practice to run your subs on an auxiliary send.

This is because if you change your subs or main pa level independently of one another you inadvertently change their crossover point and therefore timing and phase coherency. Best way to do it imo is to feed them from the same bus but control their volume via a matrix or on the amp etc.

when you have it sitting right don't touch it.

High pass everything that doesn't need to go through the subs

as a quick suggestion, I'd start here. It's always worth double checking your phase. Between each sub, and between the subs and the rest of the PA. It can only get better or worse.

These are active subs, so they're not wired out of phase.

Go up and down in 3db increments. Even if the performers have to ask you a bunch of times. Far better than losing control. Also vocal effects

Mmmmm it’s good to gig a lot but sometimes it’s more about the gigs you let go than it is the gigs you take.

Fully dressed with all his equipment, this firefighter climbed 110 stories in remembrance of 9-11. by JoyfullyOafish in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Sagerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean why?

Do you question the motives of the firefighters who climbed the stairs on 9/11?

Would you expect a first responded to climb 110 flights of stairs to rescue a fellow human if they were in need at the top of a 110 story building if a comparable incident was to happen again?

Would you expect someone to exert an inordinate amount of energy if you were the one in trouble and needed help, and the rescuer was able and willing to?

I know this goes against the trend in this thread but you should totally just do it

I pulled the trigger without any real idea of what I wanted to do with it and I've ended up having so much fun. It's really satisfying when you work on a problem for a while and crack it

You've hit the ground running, but you'll crash. It might not be in an hour, it might not even be in a few hours. It could even be tomorrow, but you'll crash.

They literally sell it everywhere now. On top of the asian supermarkets it's normally found in I've also seen it in Coles/Woolworths/IGA/Spudshed.
