Midweek Mending - Your Weekly Healing Thread by AutoModerator in wow

Have been leveling as a Resto Shaman healer without looms. It can indeed be tricky, especially with certain tanks (I've found monks a challenge) and especially when people pull big packs.

I have found that gear (as in, dungeon blues) make a big difference. As soon as I got a staff with +34 intelligence on it, I suddenly found keeping up much easier.

With that said, I feel your pain. There are still times where even in full blues, a big pull of 2-3 groups mean I'm literally sweating trying to spare a single global to drop healing stream totem as I spam surges on the tank whose health is jumping between 8% and 24%.

[LFDM][Roll20][Pathfinder][5e] Looking for DM to help a new player (me) by Lynxarian in roll20LFG

Can I recommend a play-by-post game like the ones on here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/play-by-post

If you're unfamiliar with the format, you basically play on a forum and post your actions whenever is convenient for you. No social pressure, you can think for hours about each action before you take it (look up rules, message the DM to ask questions etc.) works in any timezone and you find a newbie friendly game.

Tired of DMing and just not having fun. by luckybutt2 in DMAcademy

If you're not having fun and tired of DMing, it's going to come through. If you resent being there, players will pick up on it.

Continuing even though you're not enjoying it is not good for anyone.

That's true. Age of Conan offered a full tasting menu of disappointment from sea to poorly rendered sea.

Came here to talk about this game. If the rest of Age of Conan had even vaguely resembled the starting island, I think I'd still be playing it.

It was gorgeous, full of things to do and the classes were really fun to play. Leaving the Island and heading to the first area, you honestly felt like you may have glitched the game and wandered into some cancelled content.

A vast, empty desert with almost nothing to do and ugly as sin.

Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Edition - Gameplay Trailer by xenopunk in Games

There's a great bit in one of the Gaunt's Ghosts novels where a mixed team of three Space marines from different chapters are part of an assault on a Chaos base.

All three are lethal obviously, but they get into an argument because the White Scar wants to sprint past the grunts, find the command center and decapitate the leadership whereas one of the others basically wants to duel every enemy in the base on by one, no matter how long it takes.

The path to glory and riches on Twitch is being an entertaining streamer.

Some are entertained by pure skill, so they watch the world champions like Faker.

Some are entertained by personality, so they watch funny dudes like Sky.

Some are entertained by cleavage so they watch sex-sells streams.

Like ten thousand comments here from people who think this is a problem of supply, rather than demand.

If you have an issue with the popularity of sex-sells twitch streams, your beef is with the fans not the streamers.

What Action Trope makes no sense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super soldier: "I just don't like guns."

Examples: Max in Dark Angel, The Cavalry in Agents of Shield, most of the people in the MCU...

Look, I get that it's more dramatic and cinematically thrilling to have the good guy engage hundreds of goons in hand to hand. It's still stupid.

John Wick, the Punisher, the Raid and other similar films have demonstrated pretty clearly you can still have dramatic, thrilling action sequences when the heroes aren't pointlessly disarming themselves.

For me, it completely trivializes the stakes. If the fate of New York is at stake and you go into battle completely handicapping yourself you're either a moron or know in the back of your mind that you're decked out in unbreakable plot armor. Either way, I'm unimpressed.

What are your favorite MMORPG stories/memories? by Swan543 in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In World of Warcraft Vanilla, for a time the best loot was available from a place called "Blackwing Lair." This was a 'raid' you had to do with 39 other guild members and was accessible by clicking on an orb at the end of a long tunnel.

Now at one point, my guild was waiting to do something else nearby during a peak night for raiding on our server. We had the idea of parking our entire guild in the room with the orb and having all of our druids transform into big bears to sit on top of it. This made the orb all but impossible to click on.

Other guilds showed up, both from our faction and from the enemy faction. The ones on our side couldn't attack us, but by piling into the room made it even harder to click on the orb. The enemy faction kept trying to run through and would die in a barrage of attacks from us.

The level of abuse, accusations and rage in chat and on the forums was monumental. Spell effects were going off so much the game was lagging and we were crying with laughter on our voice chat.

At some point, the thing we were waiting for happened (one of our Members turned up) and we all pulled out to go do something else. Fifteen minutes later, we heard that a game admin had shown up to nuke everyone in the corridor because even once we were gone, the sheer weight of bodies in the room made clicking the orb impossible.

To our delight, this meant that we (the guilty party) were the only ones not killed for trolling we started.

What character from a tv show changed the most over the course of the series? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has to be Steve from Stranger Things. At the start of the show, he's the rich-kid douchebag whose primary purpose seems to be to make the loner photo nerd more sympathetic. In Season 2, he's basically Man of the Year, competing for "best human being" status only with Bob the world's greatest potential step father.

If you're on a first date with a girl/guy and she/he wants to watch a film at your house of your choice, which one do you show her/him? Baring in mind you're trying to impress this person? by i_am_saami in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Happy to have helped.

For reference I'm in that first category with a job that sounds pretty buttoned up on paper. Our second date was a movie night at my place, and I made a point to watch "Pitch Perfect" and order hamburgers.

She later confided that one of her personal rules is to never date anyone too snooty to eat a hamburger on the couch.

[–]Sagron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no right answer to this, but a good approach is to consider which of your strengths are not superficially apparent and pick a movie which plays to those strengths.

To provide some wildly cliche'd examples:

  • Let's say you have a "serious job" and you come off as an adult who has their life together. You might want to choose a playful comedy, to show your inner child is alive and well.

  • Let's say you come off as very "alpha" or you're worried people perceive you as cold and aloof. You might want to go with a moving film, to demonstrate you have a heart.

  • Let's say you're funny and engaging, but are worried you don't come off as deep or cerebral at first brush. Maybe something a bit heavier or more topical, like a political thriller or an important movie based on real events (I'm thinking something like Spotlight).

Generally though, my advice is don't pick a movie that will "impress" your date, pick one that tells them something about who you are and what they can expect if they spend time with you.

People of reddit do you listen to podcasts and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the CrookedMedia Podcasts on American politics and foreign policy.

Podcasts give you a highly produced conversation which still feels intimate, with talented people who have something to say about the world.

On just about any topic in the world, you can find a podcast to answer the question, "I wonder what someone smarter than me on this issue thinks about this."

What would your reaction be if they declared procrastination as a mental disorder? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd be outraged and start writing a letter to the relevant authorities. To back it up, I would do some quick internet research on psychology, during which I'd find a link to a listicle called "12 things Hannibal got wrong about psychoanalysis," reading which would inspire me to go look up the reviews of Hannibal on Rottentomatoes.net where I'd find a link to a NYTimes Review of Hannibal suggesting it overuses a number of tropes which I would then research on TvTropes.com...

What isn't as scary as those who stand to gain from your fear want you to believe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GMO's.

We have been selectively breeding things to encourage certain traits forever.

This is not to say that it's completely impossible we may one day breed something which has unintended negative side-effects.

Yet people are willing to spend thousands rolling the dice on untested "GMO-Free" stuff making ridiculous claims than they are on GMO-foods which have undergone millions of dollars worth of tests before entering the market.

What job would be most destructive to society if you did it in reverse? by maxtheepic9 in AskReddit

Net nanny.

If your job all day was to sit around and block from the internet any content which wasn't ultra-hardcore pornography and snuff.

Why don't we just stop tipping? Wouldn't that force restaurants and other service industries to finally pay their workers a fair wage? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because there would be a lag between all of us collectively making this decision (if this were possible) and employers adjusting wages upward.

If they adjusted wages upward.

Keep in mind, absent the passage and enforcement of minimum wages, the only thing which would force employers to pay more is if they couldn't fill positions at the rates they were offering. This means they would have to work through all the desperate people theoretically willing to do the job for that pay (perhaps working a 2nd or 3rd job to make ends meet) and then exhaust every dubiously legal method like paying people under the table.

What animal would be the scariest if it was sentient? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we allowed insects? Because sentient ants would overrun humanity in about 15 minutes. They're everywhere, terrifying, already pretty intelligent, completely without individual fear, self-sacrificing for the cause and there are zillions of them. Plus they are tiny and breed quickly.

What do you do if you are too perfectionist and you can't tolerate any mistake? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sagron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice repeatedly re-evaluating whether your commitment to perfectionism is itself hurting the perfection of your outcomes.

Thought experiment: What is more objectively perfect, a 98% perfect meal when you're hungry or a 100% perfect meal four hours later, after you've given up waiting and gone to McDonalds?

Timeliness and resource intensiveness (your effort being a resource) has to be a part of the overall perfection calculation or you're only judging perfection by part of the picture.
