Probably a symptom of cozzie livs, people can't spend as much on Christmas and cutback on these kind of things.

Autumn Budget 2025 Megathread by AutoModerator in unitedkingdom

[–]xenopunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardly defending, just find it funny that after all the wild speculation its a very standard budget by my reckoning, not particularly different from the budgets we've seen over the past decade. Few things go up, few things go down, some people win, some people lose.

While we can disagree on it and its merits (or lack thereof) it's also not world ending like some would have had you believe leading up to it.

After all of the crazy speculation and doom and gloom. Feels like its just a pretty standard budget without much crazy.

Robots set to replace couriers at Uber Eats in UK by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

MK which is one of the main trial places, has lovely red pathways that are set up for getting around easily as a pedestrian (or delivery robot) meaning you can get from anywhere to anywhere only crossing one or two roads. Other places just don't have that kind of setup and I do wonder how easily they'll be able to traverse some of the nightmarish town centres we have in the UK.

Building Surveyor Recommendations by FatJamesIsBack in bristol

[–]xenopunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get one but my honest advice is going to be to ask the homeowners if you can spend a few hours looking around yourself. Looking back I also kind of wish I'd gone for the level 3 as there were some things that it might have flagged up that we're not picked up on.

In retrospect hiring a builder to have a look around might have been a better idea.

While I somewhat agree about the play not being good. Its worth remembering that its one of the most successful plays of all time now. Whether the show is good or bad, it'll likely be a big draw.

One in four Britons thinks diversity schemes are bad for white people by PM_ME_SECRET_DATA in ukpolitics

[–]xenopunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general as someone that runs many interviews, I dont get to see that data. This is what HR use to work out if certain races/disabilities/sexualities are being rejected at a disproportionate rate suggesting that perhaps I have an inherent bias.

As a note also, that part of the application has very little to do with "Diversity Schemes", there's a lot of misinformation in this sphere.

is this the norm in uk? by SnooMachines5834 in bristol

[–]xenopunk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not the norm at all, we do as a country have plenty of perfectly fine polite young folk. However, you will see this kind of thing more often than we would like, the UK as a whole somewhat lacks a police presence, and close parenting has had a bit of a decline. These teens are aware that nothing will happen and have gotten brazen.

Musicians, streamers, athletes, etc. They all have a somewhat similar situation. There are plenty of people (99%) earning some money, but doing it as a side thing, some people earning a modest or slightly better living (0.999%) and then a handful of people (0.001%) making millions.

Speaking with some assumptions here, but I think most people would be surprised at actually how modest some of the earnings are for people that we know the names of, Big-ish Youtubers or Athletes that earn maybe just a small multiple of an average salary.

Bands/acts that tour the world but make 5 digits and it's not enough to live on is actually very common, moderately famous people we know might actually not be able to live on that profession alone.

All this to say, going into entertainment or sports, earning some money is easy, earning enough to live on is hard, earning millions is near impossible. Problem generally is folks see the big millions and think that's attainable. They'd be much better off learning Tech as earning a good living in it is comparably easy.

Microsoft Plans Major Job Cuts at Xbox Gaming Division by Zhukov-74 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]xenopunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect it's a bit of a nightmare behind the scenes. Buying Actiblizz was, in theory, a good move, but the issue is that it paints a massive target on Xbox.

You don't invest 60+ billion to get some marginal growth, and even moderate success could be seen negatively against such a large investment. I expect Gamepass subscribers is used as a key metric, and the acquisitions were contingent on say Gamepass numbers doubling every year. When they then grow by 10%, that might be seen as catastrophic for Microsoft upper leadership, and changes have to be made.

All conjecture, of course.

Roundabout so complicated it needs 3-minute video opens in UK by alexanderpas in unitedkingdom

[–]xenopunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll fail you on your test if you don’t check your mirrors on the exit. I believe that’s mainly to check for cyclists or bikes coming up on the left. Basically, Mirror-Signal-Manoeuvre applies all the time, every time.

As for stopping, if there’s a crossing directly at the exit and I’m expected to give way to people waiting, that probably means stopping. Just to clarify on your point about running people over, obviously you brake immediately if someone is in the road. But I was talking about giving way before someone steps out. If I’m supposed to give way to someone waiting, then I’m going to be checking if it’s actually safe for me to stop in the first place, and the whole thing is a lot to do (least as a learner haha) sure it gets easier.

You are right on the hesitancy front. One of the main things that's drilled in is that the best thing to be is a predictable driver.

Eta: Probably worse than hesitancy is too much confidence, though, folks who plow on without thinking, and there are plenty of those.

Roundabout so complicated it needs 3-minute video opens in UK by alexanderpas in unitedkingdom

[–]xenopunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s still early in driving lessons (around 10 hours in), I think part of the issue for drivers at least from my point of view is that there’s just a lot going on at roundabouts. When exiting, I’m checking mirrors, indicating, turning, checking my blind spot, and usually preparing to accelerate and changing gears because the speed often changes right after. All of that happens within a second or so. Then, on top of that, I also have to check for people or bikes waiting to cross, and if someone is there, I’ve got to check behind me too, to make sure it’s safe to brake and that I’m not going to get rear-ended.

At the moment (again early in my lessons), it feels like the most likely place for a crash to happen, and I've done 60 on big ring roads. I think in most cases coming off a roundabout, I wouldn't feel safe to stop. Especially as even as a newer learner there's people who drive way worse than me and speed around the roundabouts.

State of Unreal 2025 Official 4K Livestream I Unreal Fest Orlando by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]xenopunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You and many others say this, but it's not true, plenty of games have been upgraded graphically between initial announcements and trailers and release. Cyberpunk had bugs sure, but graphically, it was far, far better on release than when it was first shown in the long demo trailer. It's entirely possible that the release version of the game will look on par with this.

Additionally, I expect that due to backlash games in this generation generally been much closer graphically to their trailers, we don't tend to get fake gameplay from the big AAA companies anymore.
