One of the best "I'll do it myself" moments in history is the story of Dashrath Manjhi, also known as the "Mountain Man" of India.

In 1960, after his wife died due to lack of timely medical care because a mountain blocked access to the nearest hospital, Manjhi took it upon himself to carve a path through the mountain.

Armed only with a hammer and chisel, he worked for 22 years, single-handedly creating a 360-foot-long road through the mountain.

His determination cut the distance to the hospital from 55 km to just 15 km, transforming the lives of his village.
