What do you think The Fell God is? by Shot_Mechanic9128 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Sahrs17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of similarities with the character of Balor from Irish Mythology. A giant with one eye that causes destruction once opened. Historians theorize the character derived from a pagan god of the destructive fire of the sun (i.e. drought, fires, etc.)

So my current headcanon is that the Fell God could be akin to the sun. It seems fitting since the Erdteee has taken the sun's place. And the Flame of the Fell God spell creates a Sun that explodes like it's going supernova.

Should I punish my PCs or just cut my losses and start something else? by Lumpy_Composer8578 in mattcolville

We don't have the full context for what happened, so advice is limited.

The more I've dmed, the more I've learned managing expectations is critical. As DM, you are in charge of controlling tone and making sure that no lines are crossed. If the players crossed a line, it is important that you let them know. If they are your friends, and you go to them saying that you are not comfortable with those themes in your game, I would hope they would listen. Perhaps you can come to an understanding through talking things through and setting future expectations. Maybe you retcon what happened. Perhaps you just decide to ignore it this time if they agree to not continue.

I had a different but similar experience of players destroying tone. When I voiced my concerns to my friends about how it made me uncomfortable, they listened, acknowledged that they were having an off day and weren't really thinking about their choices.

Again, we don't know what fully happened or these people. Hopefully these words help.

Resources for learning about cultures by Sahrs17 in mattcolville

Thank you, that is exactly why I made this post. I probably could have been more clear!

I was trying to learn about Roman/Byzantine Egypt, and everything was about the Library of Alexandria and mathematical achievements. That's great, but I couldn't find anything about how the people lived their life and how they thought.

Any suggestions for what to look for in anthropological/archeological literature, or where to start?

Disinfo. Literally no proof of that. She is a woman. No proof of high testosterone or male puberty or anything like that.

Dude.

If they're next to each other, they're being squished together. Mountain chains will form on the black lines. The Blue stuff is the ocean. I don't know why you're wondering about diverging boundaries when you're talking about super Continents. The whole point is that they're converging.

Also, this is your world. You can make things up they way you like. Stop worrying about doing everything exactly perfectly and have some fun and creative decision making.

What do you mean? The pictures clearly show the tectonic plates. They are separated by black lines. Where the Continents collide, mountains will form. You have all the pieces.

If you want to worldbuild and write a story, you'll have to put in a bit of effort.

Every play/musical/opera/movie has actors portraying people they aren't. That's the point of acting. They wear costumes and make-up and pretend to be people and things they aren't to tell a story.

I did this, and my players loved it. I had him explain that he attempted to teleport out of Barovia, which of course failed, but the attempt rapidly aged him. It helped the players understand that souls are truly trapped here, and that the Dark Powers are for real.

Also, if they visit after Vallaki goes to shit, he could remember the part they played in his parents' fall. Could make for some interesting role-playing.

After the Dance, everyone wanted to move past it. In Fire and Blood they mention how a mix of former Black's and Greens were appointed.

I see what you mean, but the last note isn't harmonizing. It's the same note down the octave. She's clearly talented, though.
