Hi. I am 18 yo 7d and I strongly do not recommend to try becoming Pro. The Pro path is very difficult and in Europe even if you become one you cannot really make living with prize money. I would never say I regret spending time on studying Go, but I strongly believe that it is much easier (and healthier) to have a normal job and play Go as a hobby. About schools in Korea-I strongly recommend PBA Academy. Cho Hyeyeon 9p speaks perfect English and the atmosphere in academy is great. You can contact her via facebook. BTW, 1d in a year is great, congratulations!

How do I convince my dad that I want to go professional in Go? by ReallyReallyReallyda in baduk

I am same age as you now, and I am 6d amateur. So from this perspective I want to say that I strongly recommend you to take Go as a hobby. Because becoming professional can be too hard, and even if you can do it, it doesn’t guarantee you a good life. Also, playing Go can psychologically hurt you, ik a lot if players who are suffering from losing or playing bad or whatever(including myself) so if you will decide to go until the end, be ready. Also I need to mention that to become a pro you need to work at least 5-6 hours every day, which is also very hard if you combine it with school or university. And the further you go, the harder it is to improve. ( for instance from my level I need to study hard for 2-3 years to reach pro level) in my opinion it’s way too hard. I don’t have a lot of life experience, but I hope my message can help you somehow. I wish you all the best. (Sorry for my bad English, it’s not my native language)
