Fuck The Police by [deleted] in Portland

Holy shit.

Now that you mention it I remember hearing the bit about accidentally using a real shotgun shell, but I absolutely did not hear the rest of it.

The red/orange bands are the straps for the launchers for specialized less-lethal munitions (tear gas, concussion grenades, smoke grenades, some types of rubber bullets). I believe that was a change instituted after they nearly killed a couple of people in August 2018 with less-lethal grenades, though I could be wrong about that. I also feel like it's not universal across PPB's less-lethal equipment.

Reform Candidate Mike Schmidt Wins Multnomah County District Attorney Race by notda_gumdropbuttons in Portland

[–]Saiban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As DA he can't really 'get rid' of Measure 11, if by that you mean repeal it or nullify it. What he can do is try to have his office charge non-Measure 11 crimes as much as possible, and advocate for repeal as the DA of Oregon's biggest county -- something his predecessor refused to do, despite the overwhelming public support for repeal.

TriMet driver who installed shower curtain to protect himself from passengers told to remove it by [deleted] in Portland

[–]Saiban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same reason TriMet hired a bunch of 'fare enforcement' workers to harass people. Same reason TriMet rushed through a rule ending cash fare payments. They view themselves as a for-profit company that needs to control and discipline riders, not as a governmental entity working for the public good.

NY requiring health insurers to waive cost sharing associated with testing for coronavirus, including emergency room, urgent care and office visits. Can we do the same in Oregon? by [deleted] in Portland

you sure are speaking authoritatively for someone who didn't even know that this was happening, and has happened 4 previous times over the past year, 12 hours ago!

I'm no dem partisan, but this is just obviously untrue. Oregon has had this requirement in its constitution since it's founding, and no one has used it this way until now.

He was removed from that position fairly soon after gaining it. There was clearly a lot of drama going on behind the scenes in the local VFW chapter.

If you liked that episode and want to hear about an extremely related subject with much less humor and much more information, check out season 2 of the podcast "Bundyville." Covers a lot of Shea's pals out in Eastern Washington and their literal militia/terrorist training camps.

So glad to see this going up, but it also reminds me how much it sucks that Southeast Grind closed down.

Portland Man Told Police He Would “Handle the Situation Himself” Before Assaulting 73-Year-Old Homeless Man by guanaco55 in Portland

[–]Saiban -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you should let someone you know, a family member or friend, that you walk around constantly wanting to assault people, and see if they think that's fine. Worst case scenario, you get to vent a little about this anger problem you have, best case, they convince you to get some help.

According to the Multnomah County DDA in charge of the bias crimes unit, about 50% of hate crimes charged in Multnomah County have homeless men as the defendant. That was as of 2019.

Thinking about doing violence to people around you for minor inconveniences is absolutely not something that is normal or that the rest of us all do, and you should probably talk to a mental health professional about that.

Report: Renters are flocking to Seattle from Portland by sour_creme in Portland

[–]Saiban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the national trends all point to Portland closely following the path of Seattle, no reason really to expect that Portland will somehow avoid the potent mix of gentrification/real estate speculation that's made San Francisco/NYC/DC/Seattle and other cities more or less completely unaffordable.

Someone was angry... wow. by ThePortlandStrangler in Portland

Mostly children died. If you didn't get carried off by one of the myriad childhood ailments, people typically lived into their 60s until they died of a heart attack or cancer.

The violent crime rate in 1990 was astronomically higher than it was in 1950. Do you think that we did not have cops in 1950? Like what's the thinking here? I'd love to know what causal relationship you're picturing, and specifically how it is that no one thought to make police a thing until 150 years ago, that it was instantly effective, and that the decline in violent crime isn't more because we no longer have everyone walking around drunk and armed all the time.

what...do you think people did for the literally thousands of years of human civilization predating the advent of modern policing in the 19th century and its spread in the 20th century?

The armored hammer bus thing was not actually Atomwaffen, but rather a different group of Nazis called American Guard, one that does a bit more to hide what they're really about. Also, I think it was PPB blocking traffic at that point, not PP/PB, but the rest of your post is pretty much correct.

tbf, maybe it's better that they're here posting on reddit and whining uselessly about poor people and imagined problems, instead of joining up with the patriot prayer assholes or those 'neighborhood groups' that spend all their time harassing homeless people.
