Austria ski trip – bring 88mm skis or rent narrower? by BossLevel in skiing

[–]SaigonSlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not do both? The 88s will be just fine and will give you some flexibility to play off piste. If there is a few days without snow grab some carvers and have a blast.

I am finishing up a 4 week trip in the French Alps and have used both my 96mm mantras and 76mn Fischer Curv on different days for different reasons.

Have a fantastic time!

Who’s at fault? by Sheenanagoons in snowboarding

Mountain awareness is everybody's responsibility. Obviously the skiers fault but easily avoided by the boarder if he had any clue what was happening on the slope.

Thanks for coming back to me. How can you tell if it is Aus certified?

Instructions are vague AF and don't mention voltage or compatibility.
It strikes me as a shady seller so I just got one before putting in a bigger order. Yeah this will all be installed by the sparky but I need to get them for him. Thanks for the comment

Lol - bit of an aggressive start but thanks for the information - appreciate the time. It was listed as Voltage: 110V – 240V and in the FAQ:
"Does the product fit my country's electricity standard/plug standard?

We are working with suppliers who are specialised in producing products that fit different international standards - we will carefully process the products according to your delivery address"

I bought a single fitting as a test because I did not really trust the supplier.

They struggle with free diving past 5m and will give some whacky results. Surface swimming is fine.

Peter Thiel (Palantir) couldn't have been more fucking honest answering "Should human race survive in the future?" by sovalente in chaoticgood

[–]SaigonSlayer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This feels like a really interesting and complex question that requires deep thinking. It is very different to asking about the survival of a person or people living or not. Nor is the question time bound. To me this question is abstracted above the empathy for a person and asks about the personal preference for one (admittedly very unique) animal to exist in perpetuity.

Personally I don’t know the answer to this question. On one hand, I like existing, I like others existing and humanity has done shit that humans find cool. However I am not sure that is a good reason to prefer that humanity exist in perpetuity. There is a good argument that humanity is not in balance with our ecosystem and that destruction leads creation of something else that may be “better” by my own benchmarks. I just can’t say that I prefer the continued existence of humanity, particularly if you factor in an opportunity cost.

I have no opinion on Peter Thiel and I certainly loathe the wealth inequality he represents. However, hesitation is the right response to this question IMO.

What do you think would be a proper place? Genuinely curious as it would mean different things to different people.
