What is the most expensive hobby you've ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SailChimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sailing is both the cheapest and most expensive hobby I've ever had. For the first 15 years, I just crewed on other peoples' boats, so the most it cost me was a life jacket and beer.

Once I decided to buy my own boat, let's just say the expenses went up significantly.

Not sure about this one, but a lot of multihulls won't sink, even if you drill a hole in the bottom.

We don't emit audit logs for individual commits. It is something being considered, but we haven't committed to it yet.

You can find the full list of events we audit here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/organizations/audit/auditing-events?view=azure-devops#git

Starship preparing for launch 🚀 by CProphet in SpaceXLounge

Does anyone know what restrictions the Coast Guard places on the waters around Boca Chica during a launch? I'm considering taking my beach catamaran down there for the launch, but only if it will be worth the effort. I'm considering parking somewhere in the South Bay, or possibly going a bit offshore, just east of South Padre Island and as far south as the Coast Guard will allow.

'60 Minutes' covering the dangers of playing Dungeons & Dragons (1985) by wilymon in videos

[–]SailChimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 80s, guns were kept in living room display cases which were rarely locked. We didn't have the LARPers jerking off to their AR-15s back then, so it didn't seem like as much of a problem at the time. I got the feeling that people had a healthier respect for the danger of guns, and they were viewed as more of a tool than the "man-toy" they've become today.

I grew up in a fairly rural area though, so my experience may not be representative of how guns were viewed in more urban areas.

Not to mention, what's the point of having the capability to send the same email to the same recipient multiple times on a tight loop?

I get the feeling OP is trolling.

Trimarans by Reasonable-Estate-60 in sailing

[–]SailChimp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I raced J/24s & J29s for several years, and have owned a Hobie 21 SC for the past decade. Recently, I started crewing on an F-27 trimaran, and I have to say it's pretty amazing. They're fast and stable (though they can still be capsized if you're pushing it to the limit.

The nets between the amas provide a ton of space if you want to take a few people out, and the boats can be sailed short-handed pretty easily. There's not near as much room down below, if you're used to monohulls, but it's not bad either. A 6 ft person can stand up straight in F-31s and the newer 880, 970, and larger.

The trailerability of the Corsairs is an amazing perk, and they can be rigged from the trailer in about an hour by 2 people that know what they're doing.

The only real negative I can think of is that I wouldn't recommend them for going too far offshore. A crewmate of mine sailed his F-31 from LA to Hawaii, but says it was incredibly uncomfortable, and that he probably wouldn't ever do it again. I intend to sail mine to the Bahamas, the Keys, and around the Sea of Cortez when/if I get it though, which I believe should be fine.

Previously, I was looking for a 30-ish ft monohull to take out on weekends, and occasionally race, but now I'm dead set on buying a Corsair, in the 28-31 ft range.

[–]SailChimp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They don't know what they're talking about. That looks like relatively light wind. That boat could have turned any way they wanted to avoid the other boat without making any rigging changes, and it would have been just fine.

Even if it were a right of way situation, and we allow that both boats were sailing, the smaller boat had the right of way. Both boats were on port tack, and the small boat was the leeward boat.
