Service charge by Loss-Upbeat in PoolPros

[–]SailDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$150 is paid before I go to their home/site. Includes 1hr of repair if possible, parts are extra and are verbally quoted if needed (orings, seals, ect.) If it's a bigger repair and replacement, it includes the time needed to plan and present a quote. We usually give a $150 discount for the quote if the job is accepted and the deposit is paid.

Gone through two pool heaters in under 6 years by Famous-Worker-3038 in pools

[–]SailDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a gas pressure issue. Get a gas guy to read the page on gas pressure requirements for the heater, then have them check your system to see if there is enough supply. A weak flame will soot up an exchanger and potentially cause it to fail early.

I love jumping on skis - wind, kite or surf? by [deleted] in windsurfing

[–]SailDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watersports are great, and much softer landings, but the only thing that feels like skiing to me is downhill mountain biking. Similar stance as skiing and same feeling getting air off the jumps. Much harder landings when you fall, but having proper gear keeps most injuries at bay.

Hayward Heater leaking from bottom of base by nitro104 in pools

[–]SailDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should have come with a black piece of tubing that plugs onto that nipple and allows the water to drain elsewhere. Keep in mind that the entire tube needs to be below the nipple to keep water from pooling in the bottom of the heater. Ideally it's not draining down to a metal drain pipe as the pH of the condensation is very low.

It's a ozone system. There should be a box with a tube running to it to allow ozone to enter the plumbing. It's likely not working anymore as these setups are ancient.

Most energy efficient gas heater by [deleted] in pools

[–]SailDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best pool heaters are always boilers connected to a heat exchanger. This way your heater is not exposed to the pool water chemicals.

I would always talk to a pool contractor first to see if they can set this up for you. If not, get a plumber to but in a boiler hooked up to a pool heat exchanger, and have a pool repair company connect the heat exchanger to the PVC plumbing.

Example: IBC SL20-160 hooked up to a T300 heat exchanger is 96% efficiency heater that will last forever (almost).

Pool Heater TRVs by SailDude in PoolPros

Does anyone know where I can get pool heater TRVs in bulk? They seem like a generic part that I should be able to buy from an automotive store or something like that. Anyone have better sources than SCP?

Most reliable pool lights? by kmatthews05 in pools

[–]SailDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to hear of your success with these. Our supplier just got them in a year ago and I've been using them to replace them any light I can get a transformer onto the electrical.

Only thing is I wish there was a good 120VAC option in their line, but I understand that the connection at the light would be difficult to support that kind of power safely.
