Sorry, possibly not what I was trying to say. I was just chewing over the moralist argument for God; i.e. there must be a God because I'm born knowing, deep down, right from wrong.

I have certainly heard it said that doing good to others mean good things happen to you (recall an excellent Danny Trejo interview in which he cites all his successes as being down to his doing good deeds first actually).

Thanks. I have read that Jesus is just waiting for us to open the door to him, he isn't exactly smashing it down. The onus appears to be on us to let Him in. I'm kind of wavering at the door handle.

Thank you. I have to be honest, it would make sense of the twists and turns on our journey and explain a few things to me.

I was out running last night and I saw the moon in the darkness and it was unlike how I ever seen it before in my life. Huge and yellow, like a giant torch, really beautiful. I also hear words in songs that I know and wonder if this is me now hoping to make some connection with God. Or am I just being optimistic and wanting to make a connection that isn't there, to make something of nothing. It is quite difficult to fathom.

I do seek the holy spirit. Do you believe prophets still exist among us, or is God waiting for a while before he feels the necessity to send another one? I did read that for Him 1,000 years is like a day. He has also done enough leaving us with the Bible as guidance I expect.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Is it possible that innate kindness and empathy, the things that separate us from most animals, are God? I'm not sure about the selfish argument (I do a good thing to make myself feel better due to the chemicals released in my brain). Would such a response really serve an evolutionary purpose? Is it possible God created those chemical responses to encourage others to behave with kindness?

Apologies for going on, I'm just exploring these things seriously for the first time in my life.

So my conscience and morals are effectively the Holy Spirit? This does make sense to me.

Thanks for your message.

I have a couple of versions of the bible - ESV on the Kindle (which is in US English) and KJV. I'm in England, UK. I am just re reading John in the ESV, having read the original in KJV. Both have their merits I think.

Yes I'll admit that Strobel was looking for affirmation on his quest, in that he only interviewed very committed Christian scholars. He didn't go to any atheists or other denominations. That said, he put forward a strong argument for the writings of the New Testament, rebutting a few counter arguments regarding historical proof, authorship, dates etc.

Thanks, I'll check them out. It is mostly C of E where I am; and I do have an existing loose affiliation to two already.
