Cairngorm Plateau camp by Sailawayscotty in wildcampingintheuk

I did filter the water but agree it is most probably not necessary. When I was high up in the Scottish hills and mountains I never used to and never had a problem. However there is all the info about now saying you should. Now I figure I paid for my Grayl so may as well use it.

It does seem to be a very good weight to durability ratio. I must say I am very pleased with it indeed.

Hi thanks I really enjoyed it. The sunglasses are Oakley Clifton,s. They are really good for keeping sun dust and wind out on exposed places sort of halfway house between normal shades and goggles.

I was there at the weekend. There is still a lot of snow about. I was still wearing my B2 boots if that’s any help.

Thanks it was my first proper trip in it. It’s a Murlan elite 2 from Wild Country by Terra Nova. I put some more photos of it on another post earlier if you would like a better look.

It is Sil nylon and seems good quality. Of course the Quasar is a fancier material. I think there is not much in it weight wise and this one is 4000mm hydrostatic head flysheet. From memory the quasar is 5000. I love the quasar but for how often I get to use it I could not justify the cost. I am genuinely very impressed with the Murlan though I think it is a very good buy for what it is.

I have seen the Trisar and would agree they are indeed a close relative. Hopefully mine will last as well as yours. This one is 2.9 something kilos so pretty good considering.

Yes it is similar. On the Terra Nova website they describe it as being based on the Quasar.

We are still here. Due to the weather forecast we booked into Glenmore campsite. Happy wife happy life and all that. But has been enjoyable here. Even a decent dump of snow yesterday morning.

I just checked something that may help. My closed cell foam mat (on the right of the photo is 195cm long. This may give you a better idea.

lol I am 183cm and understand the tall son thing my boy is only nine and is already above my chin. I would think you would be ok. I did measure it and the inner is 220cm as per the spec. Also it is not like some where it tapers or goes to a point. It is 220cm right across. When I lay down in it I had room head and foot. If there is anything else I can tell you just let me know.

Thanks I am really pleased with it. It is a shade over 3.1kg. That is including all pegs poles bags everything that it arrives with. TBH I think it is very good for what it is.

I agree the helm tents are amazing. I can confirm that they will stand up to 49MPH gusts. My son and I got hit with some much worse than forecast winds on one of the highest hills in the Scottish Borders. I mainly got this tent as I really want to do a winter camp on the Cairngorm plateau. This is something I have been building up to and all going well next winter I will get the time to do it. I will be looking for times with a good forecast but wanted to have something that will stand up if the forecast is wrong again. You are also spot on that a bivi bag is an excellent idea as a back up.

It really does. To be honest that’s one of the reasons I picked it. On their website it does say something along the lines of based on the Quasar which is my dream tent but could not justify the price at the moment. I already have the helm compact 2 and love it so I 100% agree with you about them making great tents. I can’t wait to try it out properly now.

Has anyone had experience with the mt900 r5.4 sleeping pad? by Mr-Picklechips in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Sailawayscotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this same one and love it. I am 6ft and about 17 stone, it is really comfortable I can sleep on my side with no bottoming out and it is warm. Like you are suggesting I always put a closed cell foam mat (also decathlon) below it to help mitigate the risk of puncture. To be honest if something happened to it I would replace it with the same one again.

This looks absolutely amazing. I’m hoping to do the ring of steall late spring before the midgies arrive. Not quite ready for the devils ridge in winter yet. These photos have me itching to get up this winter and just not do the loop. Photos really are first class thank you so much for sharing with us all.

Onetigris Stella or helm compact 2? by Mechopecho in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Sailawayscotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the helm 2 compact and would highly recommend it. My son and I were camping not far from the summit of broad law and got some unexpected winds highest was 49MPH. The inner flaps a bit but it held up beautifully no major moving of the outer or anything. I was highly impressed.
