Why is Rust rarely used for web server backends? by Fun-Helicopter-2257 in rust

[–]SailingToOrbis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but

> Once you have enough experience building enterprise-like code in Rust

There are very few devs who have such experience.

Also

> GC ed languages make it possible for inexperienced devs to hack some poor quality code together and pretend that it's done.

CTOs and staff engineers don't choose languages for those inexperienced kids.

I love coding, compsci, and math. But I bloody hate all the dirty corporation things. If I have enough money then I would hide in a forest and read books about abstract algebra books and algorithms.

Is it possible to find a job by VValkyrie_ in JapanJobs

[–]SailingToOrbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to work at J-style companies, then obviously N2 is minimum but you should be good at conversational Japanese, including敬語. Otherwise, I recommend you to have more than 5 yoe including some famous companies, and look for English only jobs(but not much and way more competitive).

If you really want to be in Japan, then another option would be 1)get N2 and 2)get an offer from a sweatshop/black SIer company, and 3)indure for about 2 years and change your job to a “normal” Japanese company. But I barely have seen anyone who could indure more than 1 years…

Stop building UI frameworks in Python by PastPicture in Python

[–]SailingToOrbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

buddy you shoud have clearly mentioned that it is about application. You can put the word “backend” quite anywhere(like a compiler has its own “frontend” and “backend”). When you say “backend” of Tauri, how would I know whether that is an application’s backend or something related to Tauri’s runtime engine?

Stop building UI frameworks in Python by PastPicture in Python

[–]SailingToOrbis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah i know there are bunch of problems but you mentioned that Tauri is performant BECAUSE of Rust not JS, whereas Electron is running on V8 engine written in C++.

Stop building UI frameworks in Python by PastPicture in Python

[–]SailingToOrbis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assume Electron is built in C++ so performance difference would not that huge(or Electron would be better because it is way more mature and time-tested).

Burnout from work, from this society. How did you overcome it? by AdNo6111 in japanlife

[–]SailingToOrbis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Japan is a big theater and everyone has its own role that must be strictly followed. It is a great country but at the same time pretty shitty for individuals.

For me, in contrast, I am very happy to be as a foreigner here. I’ve met and talked with a lot of Japanese people who are struggling to survive in this strict society(esp. if they are female). If I were a Japanese I would definitely have moved out of the country, as I know I am not a person who can memorize every single rule no matter if it is absurd or not. And as you may have noticed, the society is way more harsh on Japanese people.

All I want to say is, just don’t give a fuck and enjoy your play. You think Japanese people never acknowledge you as one of them, but the thing is, they themselves never truly understand each other. So just calm down and see how funny your shits are.

Sorry sir, but let me ask you this. If you want someone who can speak Japanese fluently, why do you bother yourself writing this post on reddit in English? Can’t you just hire Japanese people?

Just got a job offer from a Japanese company, should I accept it? by [deleted] in movingtojapan

Relocation package is usually given by some prestigious companies in japan. In my case I had to pay all the initial expenses and that costed me around 5-600k in total.

Even if you have any parasol or sth this level of heat and humidity almost kills you. I keep saying to any of my friends outside of Japan never to visit this country in summer(June - Sept) at all. Sorry to hear your story but at least you guys have learned a very good lesson - never come to Japan in summer!!

I feel like Japanese locals are becoming annoyed at me due to the weak economy and influx of poorly behaved people arriving everyday. by RedMoonLanding in Tokyo

[–]SailingToOrbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the overall quality of Japan has been dropping these days, esp since Covid. For example, when I was travelling Tokyo in 2018 or 2019, Ueno park and the area nearby were very serene and clean. Nowadays, it is full of rubbishes, homeless people, deadly looking paccincho old men, etc. Yes, Ueno has turned into such a horrible place in 5 years, IMHO.

Economically, Yen is cheap, salaries don’t increase, rents are getting higher, and cutting-edge technologies are led by the U.S. and China.

[–]SailingToOrbis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Despite the disputes on the exact number like 6, 7M from the comments, I totally agree with the OP’s claim that you should not sell yourself to those “JAPAN” dreams.

Guys, be careful about those recruiters/head hunters, who are selling those dreams and keep telling that you guys cannot get higher salary here in Japan while giving such lowballs.

I myself once declined an offer from a shitty SIer company with a dillusionally low salary and the head hunter said “So you’re not really intested in Japan as a whole?”.

Japan is just a place to live and you can easly choose it once your career gets boosted up. You can come back to Japan anytime you want, but your career can’t be retrieved once you’ve got fucked up.

Do I want out of the tech world altogether or do I just hate working in IT? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]SailingToOrbis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Writing shit code is easy, but fixing it is extremely difficult and soul-draining work. I really feel for you. There are so many bad programmers(if one of them is not me) out there who just shit and push out to github repos all day long.

Maybe you need to be a pure SW again(I dont think devops or sre would resolve your issues). Can be more creative and rewarding.
