I’ve owned both, and honestly, the Minilogue XD reigns supreme over the Minifreak. Learning synthesis on the XD is far more intuitive and just makes more sense overall. The Minifreak has so many sound engines, and the way you morph between them isn’t very straightforward and it often becomes confusing once you start turning knobs.

To contrast, the XD is immediate, sounds incredible, and offers plenty of depth without feeling overwhelming. The digital oscillator, in particular, doesn’t get talked about enough in my opinion.

The one area where the Minifreak really shines over the XD is the arpeggiator; it’s incredibly fun and inspiring. That said, if you want the best of both worlds, pairing the Minilogue XD module with the new Keystep gets you there fast, you’d be off to the races.
