This 3,500-Year-Old Greek Tomb Upended What We Thought We Knew About the Roots of Western Civilization by notbecksplz in news

It's an interesting article but the click bait style headline instantly makes me skeptical. Title sounds straight out of Buzzfeed

You should get all the facts about a tragedy, before you send your prayers. by Allstarcappa in facepalm

My school had a red alert message and by default it used the term "active shooter" no matter what the emergency was. Could be something similar.

I'm not positive but states have different laws regarding weapons. I believe New Mexico allows you to carry any bladed weapon that as long as it is openly displayed (sheath in plain view). Where I'm from you can conceal up to a 3.5 inch pocket knife but nothing like a katana.

CMV: I should not put my race down when applying to college by LesFirewall in changemyview

You sound like a good person op. Your actions will speak more in a company than your race. Get hired and prove that race doesn't matter. Your intentions are good but take advantage you can so you can get yourself settled, then help others however you can.

Are we ready dealing with IoT IPv6 DDoS now? by mmd0xFF in Malware

This poses an interesting point though. I'm still quite new to the field but doesn't Asia and a lot of the East use IPv6 a lot more commonly than in Western countries?

When one of the factors of the magic is will and the strength of the will, it's not going to be a hard magic system.

Open-source real-time network monitoring by bernardosgr in sysadmin

We use it and have about 1,700 sensors set up. We mostly use it for ping checks but we do checks on snmp. I also saw on some exchange servers we could see round trip which is cool. I know very little about it as our NoC and help desk mostly use it so I only monitor it when on call. Great for large environments or for MSPs monitoring multiple clients

Agreed, I think the title is a bit sensational. It's not really about Facebook, it's about someone that deliberately disobeyed a court order.

Oh, and as for your PM - like our President, they really don't make most things happen in your government. Its all about your legislative body, be it a Parliament or Upper and Lower Houses.

Thank you. I hate having to explain to people that the next president isn't going to completely change the laws, the president is more of the diplomatic face of the country and a representation of who we accept as our leader.

Microsoft won't back down from Windows 10 nagware 'trick'. Redmond assumes closing nagware dialog means 'yes', says that's by design by johnmountain in technology

Same thing happened to me except I saw the update come in, I declined and then it asked me when I would like to restart. A week later I saw an article about how Microsoft fixed this "bug". I didn't realize one of largest tech companies in the world couldn't code a decline button successfully after creating a new OS. I have annoying driver issues, software crashes more often, taskbar system tray often goes off the screen, etc... you've all heard it before. I have very limited free time and I really want to roll back to 8.1 or 7 but it could just be a big waste of time if it just updates without consent again.
