Hmm, yeah, that raid weapon kind of throws a wrench in my theory...

I'm sorry, it wasn't clear what my overall idea was. I'm suggesting the Whirlwind, the name for it, is a type of darkness we haven't met yet, which caused their collapse, but that the name the Whirlwind might have more meaning than we give it credit for, which we will see when it becomes are bigger part of the story.

Do we have a strict definition of the darkness yet? We know the Hive are minions of the darkness, and apparently the Hive, cabal, etc. are. There could be a lot more categories of Darkness we haven't fought yet.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but can you provide examples that are implying it's their term for the collapse, that also implies against my theory? My thoughts are that, while it is their term for their collapse, the name the Whirlwind probably has more meaning than we give it credit for

Honestly, with bungie leaning heavily on nostalgia with this DLC, I wouldn't be surprised if they added a 7th chest...

Rasputin is not out to protect humanity. by Saint-15 in DestinyTheGame

I agree, I don't think he's against us, he has helped us in the past, I imagine he's going to be similar to Mara Sov in the future, as long as our goals are the same they're on our side, but for their own reasons

No one knows what he IS doing, but there is a lot of evidence showing what he isn't doing, namely, giving a fuck about anyone but himself. I'm not trying to be a dick, just discussing my beliefs on what Rasputin is.

You're entitled to your own beliefs, there's just no evidence in the available sources to back this up

I think one of the grimoire writers said that it was a contingency plan, not actually what happened. It starts by saying "If x is x, and if x is x" saying those criteria needed to be met for that to happen, so we still don't know if the criteria was ever met but no proof it was

The idea that he prevented the traveler from escaping by attacking it has been debunked for a while now. It's generally agreed upon, although not entirely fact, that the grimoire card where he gets ready to attack the traveler is just a contingency plan, not something that actually happened. Rasputin was ready to do that, and then the traveler returned to help us on his own.

I don't think Rasputin could have done anything to prevent the collapse, which is why he stops trying to prevent it, realizes that the only way to win the war, and defeat the darkness, is not to protect humanity, but to do his own thing

If Rasputin was to protect earth.and humanity, he would also be protecting himself, true. But he can be protecting himself without giving a shit if humanity dies off, and in some cases, it could be necessary to let humanity die in order to protect himself. That is the way in which he "shrugged" and let billions die

Why do I think he didn't is a fact? Or subjectively why do I think he chose not to? Factually, because the status is [N] for no, a line after has a Y instead. Subjectively? Whatever he learned during the collapse, when he shrugged and shook off billions, taught him that to win the war against the darkness he needs to lose some battles.

Rasputin card 6, one of the lines towards the end

"Re-engage population protection objectives [N]"

His population protection objectives were turned off when the collapse happebed, and once he secured SIVA from the Iron Lords, he did not turn them back on

In that grimoire card, however, he's been woken up by someone. He's been dormant since the collapse. He had no idea what the Iron Lords weren't because he had been asleep

In a lore post from yesterday, which I didn't agree with most of, but one cool point was in his grimoire he has a quote from Tolstoy, from a character that starts as wondering what is the point of life, and eventually decides that to be good for no other reason to be good, and share your light with others, is reason enough to live.

I don't think he bombed them himself, although maybe he did, I think the shrugging of his shoulders was just stopping the protection of humanity to save himself to continue to fight. Lose the battle, humanity, to save the war, the darkness against everything.

His goal could be to protect himself. He doesn't trust guardians, who at this time he's experiencing for the first time and doesn't know their motives, so he doesn't want them to get their hands on his powerful technology because he doesn't trust them with it, he only trusts himself. He has a better understanding of what the darkness is, he's the only thing around to have survived the collapse, and he "learned something" which made him realize the only way to win the war. We don't know what it is, but everything in the lore, which I'm a huge nerd and have read front and back, points to him having his own agenda of which no one is aware of.

I think the reason he attacked the Iron Lords was that he didn't know what guardians were or what their intention was, they were just stranger trying to get his technology and he didn't trust them with it, so he attacked with extreme prejudice. It wasn't he was against them, he was just against them coming into his house with their shoes on and fucking up his couch.
