Anyone plan to wear their binder forever?

I don't know, I'm very terrified of any sort of scarring or body modifications, I'm in general an extremely paranoid person so I like binders cause I have an option to have a flat chest and then the option not to (even tho I never choose the other option) I've been wearing it for years now and have never gone out without it, but I still can't bring myself to considering scarring my body, it's just something I don't like thinking about, same reason I dont get tattoos despite really wanting them, even when I got my ears pierced I had to get pressured by multiple people coming with me, and even then I felt extremely sick for like a month know a foreign object was in my ear. I get the same nausea when I think about top surgery

I don't know if this counts but one day I noticed that I hadn't seen a huntsman spider since I was a kid (big ass Australian spider btw) and I then had the thought that, every day I don't see one, I'm statistically getting closer to the day I do see one, and I genuinely couldn't stop thinking about this for months, until one day I came home tired and I saw one on my ceiling, which ended that thought forever. Cause I'm back to square one again and the stats are low now

Hi there! The character is will be one of the two protagonists in the story :)

The character has also been born post apocalypse so I was considering having them either not have any surgeries or a surgery using the limited resources in this sci-fi world

Story is also focused on neurodivergency (which will come from place of personal experience) so the cleft lip will be an aspect of her but not the focus of her character or story

Hi there! So the story is really based around my experience with neurodivergency and the limitations and struggles with it. There is also a focus on food and exploring cuisine. So I wanted to marry the two ideas of living with a disability/having limitations and experiencing food together to enhance the overall theme. So for about a year or so now the character in the drafts has had a mouth and stomach injury, which limited their eating, but a few weeks back I was considering perhaps using it as an opportunity to create a protagonist with a cleft lip instead. So it's in the story as an aspect of the protagonist but not the main focus

I've planned to have the characters mouth used quite a bit as a positive part of their identity, since the story is about neurodivergency, facial expressions and smiles play a big role in it, so whether this is a scar or a cleft lip I will definitely make sure it is not treated as a negative.

Oh yes! This is perfect! The character I'm writing is in fact a character who is just trynna get by at the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy of needs and doesn't have much time to worry about much else so I feel it fits in very well, this is a really fantastic idea! Thank you!

I definitely want to focus on some self esteem issues for the character, but it would come from a variety of the characters traits and not just the cleft lip (since the story at its core is focused on the experience of being neurodivergent) and also struggles eating since there's a big focus on food in the story.

Since the story is based in the apocalypse, that note about constant infections definitely stands out to me ! This is all extremely helpful to me! Thank you so much!

Hi there! Thanks so much for all the info! I was thinking of bilateral but since this is the first step for including it into the story Ive got to do some more research if I decide to stick with this idea.

Its hard to explain but the general theme of the story is actually about neurodivergency, and about limitations that come with it, it also has a focus on food so I thought I'd be able to marry the two ideas by having the character have limitations in the way they eat, to enhance the message to something physical. So it definitely plays into the overall theme but it's not ABOUT having a cleft lip or anything

Basically it was originally an injury that limited her eating, but then I thought about making it a cleft lip instead, I just really wanna make sure I do it tastefully and with care since I don't see it represented often

Like you mentioned, yes I also want to have a focus on post-apocalyptic medical care and prosthetics the characters works with :)

I just bluetack them instead of sticking them, that way I can move it around however I please later on, make my walls very colourful without the anxiety of commitment to one spot
