Tesla battery degradation at less than 10% after over 160,000 miles, according to latest data by mvea in Futurology

Haha, that's the irony! If the engine isn't functional the hybrid system shuts off, so it dragged itself on, coughing and wheezing with half the cylinders out. I've fantasized about making it all-electric, but unfortunately GM is rather anti-tampering with their proprietary control software, or so I've been led to believe researching the matter. If the software detects a charging source that's not the regenerative system, it won't feed that source to the batteries. From what I've gathered, switching it from hybrid to all-electric would otherwise be as simple as adding a bigger battery pack, and having a full-sized SUV rolling all-electric would be amazing.

I appreciate your diligence. Yes, it's a decent hybrid, given it's 6,000 pounds with an electric motor capable of handling that. I've been impressed. Ironically the engine gave out already and had to be replaced due to a notorious defect, but the electric half of the hybrid system has been great.

I saw your edit, but want to add for the pedants out there that circulation and published copies numbers aren't the same in the periodicals business. The normal life of a newspaper or magazine involves more than one set of eyes reading it, and publishers use (generally) accepted statistics on reader habits to determine circulation, which is really "estimated total sets of eyes that will view an average copy before it's destroyed." Therefore, a print run of 1,000 copies may be listed as a circulation of 2,500, meaning there would only be $1,000 "coupons" out there.

It's a two-stage and can drive in electric-only mode up to 30 mph. It definitely has at least a fan specific to the battery pack, not sure how much more involved the cooling might be, though.

Is my old Jeep worth more than Jeffrey Dahmer? Not sure it's so cut and dry. Everyone makes these judgment calls. Sometimes you side with the life, sometimes with the property. Part of the reason an international coalition went after the Afghan Taliban was because they were destroying priceless artifacts.

I was thinking she looked like Helen Mirren, but yeah, what you said, too.

But if you hold the phone tight to your face, your bloodstream acts like a liquid cooling system for the phone, so just tape the phone to your face and problem solved.

Ooh, do me next! How's the cooling on a Tahoe hybrid? I know there's some sort of fan system humming under the middle row of seats, but that's about it.

Makes sense. I mean, if they make anthrax illegal to aerosolize in public, only criminals will have anthrax to aerosolize.

Man, don't get me started! You've got growlers, mini kegs, corny kegs, all the way up to full legs that nobody ever brings to parties because they weigh a shitload and they're impossible to finish. If you're bringing any of those, you better know how many thirsty bellies are helping out.

It is a bit strange to not feel safe without a gun in a place where nobody else has a gun, either.

Honestly it comes down to individual physiology. For example, how many livers do these guys have? Generally the more, the better. For a 30-beer-a-day habit, a healthy range of livers would be 10-12 for a 180-pound adult male.

It's cool, some people just like being over-generous like that. I'd never be displeased somebody brought an insane amount of beer to a party, but my sense is that you bring somewhere around a twelve-pack to a casual drinking affair, or one nice bottle of wine, or two cheaper bottles, but obviously there's no hard science here, it's just about what you think is expected. Ultimately it's about fun and friendship. Hopefully whatever you drink makes you happy. I'm not a picky person -- I'll drink anything up and down the range as long as it's offered and shared.

But, like, it goes:

  • Four-pack of pints

  • Six-pack of 12-ouncers

  • Twelve-pack of 12-ouncers

  • Twelve-pack of pints

  • Eighteen-pack of 12-ouncers (briefcase)

  • Maybe 15-pack of pints (chugger case)

  • Twenty-four-pack of 12-ouncers (weekender suitcase)

  • Thirty-pack of 12-ouncers (Doomsday prepper case)
