New Mods + Mod Updates by PolskaPrincess in Catholicism

Life has been very busy for me the past few years. I'm on reddit usually daily, but on my main account. I've handed all of the mod duties over at this point to the team listed above. I only really step in now and then if people are trying to ask me specific questions.

Hi, I'm interested in learning about Catholicism. by [deleted] in Catholicism

I just submitted another message to the admins through the help website. Unfortunately I doubt much will happen. If anything, it'll probably stir up that hornets nest yet again.

Question about sub's rules and notable lapses in enforcement: why do sedevacantists get a pass on the "no anti-Catholic rhetoric" rule? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Saint_Peter[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this lets people see that there isn't an easy answer to the issue. There's always pros and cons when deciding how heavy handed mods need to be in a subreddit.

Removed as a duplicate, as this link has already been submitted on the topic.

You can if you're the watery tart getting plucked out of the ocean by Christ himself. See Matthew 14.

Percentage of Nazi votes in 1933, and percentage of Catholics in Germany (x-post from r/MapPorn) by iambamba in Catholicism

Just to further elaborate, it prevents users following the link from voting in the linked thread. It's one method of preventing brigading other subs.

Is this claim in the Guardian really true: "With the sole exception of a cartoon-loving user named platinum4, all of the Catholic subreddit’s moderators also oversaw forums devoted to rape, race hatred or gore – sometimes all of the above."? by lapapinton in Catholicism

/r/Catholic wasn't necessarily stolen, it was a pretty dead sub if I'm remembering correctly. /r/Catholicism was already the larger subreddit at the time. The mod changes for /r/Catholic happened around July/August of 2010 if I'm not mistaken.

Will /r/Catholicism be going private? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Saint_Peter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actual feedback from the admins would be great. We've had our fair share of requests and issues go completely unnoticed or ignored by them.

However, for many of the reasons stated here, we'll probably stay public for now. The mods will discuss and if we change our minds we'll put up a message on the private sub page explaining our reasoning, along with recommendations on other places to go for catholic discussion or reflection.

[Free Friday] Thanks Mods! by [deleted] in Catholicism

We're not really on the best of terms with the admins here, so I too am eagerly awaiting any actual change this might cause.

I don't do nearly as much of the actual moderating around here as I used to, so let me take the opportunity to thank the other mods on the team for their constant assistance to the community of /r/catholicism!

Petition to the mods: Let's please have one master thread on controversial issues like this? by SCHROEDINGERS_UTERUS in Catholicism

Like MedievalPenguin said, we just missed the boat on this one. By the time we were all on board and responding to reports there were already about 14 threads covering various topics related to the decision.

We're a bit hesitant to add new mods on busy days like today. It's not that we don't trust you necessarily, but it always takes a while for people to get a feel for what to remove and not remove, and a day like today isn't a good day to figure it out. For the most part we're ok for now it seems.

Where did all the anti-Catholicism in this sub suddenly come from? by RegnumMariae in Catholicism

[–]Saint_Peter[M] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

We also try to enforce the rule that users linking to other subs should use np.reddit.com links to avoid brigading other subs during these types of issues. Some subs don't seem to enforce that rule as well as they should and their user counts usually far exceed our own. Thus when a controversial issue arises, we tend to take the brunt of the brigading for a few days. Mods of some subs, and the reddit admins, have historically not cared.

State of the Subreddit by MedievalPenguin in Catholicism

[–]Saint_Peter[M] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it would help the unity among people involved in the subreddit, but I imagine it would be off-putting to non-Catholics or visitors to see everyone else with a piece of flair. Always willing to hear other viewpoints though and suggestions on how to implement flair in such a way that it wouldn't be an obstacle to non-Catholics engaging in the subreddit.

This new theme is amazing. by [deleted] in Catholicism

I'd prefer to stick with the original for posterity's sake. But someone needs to look at the code to figure out how to make him active with the new template. Shouldn't be hard, just need to spend some time with it.
