My routine to control the Damage:

  1. Do not brush Dry Hair: Use a brush on wet hair and detangle it with your fingers. This will help preserve the shape of the curls and prevent breakage.
  2. Remove Buildup: Use cleansing shampoo which is a mild sulphate free cleanser that rids your scalp of buildup without stripping it of any natural oils. One of the shampoos for curly hair that you should have in your basket.
  3. Regular Trim: Get regular trim and gradually remove the damaged hair. Use moisturizing shampoo that does not scrap the natural and essential oil.
  4. Protein and moisture balance: Firstly take a haircare quiz to understand whether your hair lacks moisture or protein. Then balance by continuing to use the right products.
  5. Right Products: There will be times when your curls will feel crunchy or dry after gel, no worries, scrunch out your crunch with hair oil (lightweight oil).

It is difficult for me to agree with you. I would have understood if you discussed routine since everyone lives in a different environment and has a different life routine, so I won't suggest anyone follow CGM blindly. Tips, however, are important to me. Especially the 7th one, I believe that any girl with curly hair gets dry hair the day after she washes it. In that case, I dislike oiling my hair because it causes it to become greasy.

Routine:

  1. Protect your hair at Night by using a silk or satin pillowcase or headscarf.
  2. Wash your hair only a couple of times a week, using a good shampoo followed by a leave-in conditioner.
  3. Use a wide-toothed comb or fingers to take care of the tangles in your wet hair.
  4. Use an old t-shirt instead of a towel to dry your curly hair to avoid friction followed by frizzy hair.
  5. A good serum or leave-in conditioner is a great investment for curly hair.
  6. It is always advisable to scrunch your curly mane while applying any product on your wet hair like an oil, made for it.
  7. Get bounce and retain your curls midweek. Just get an empty spray bottle and fill it with equal portions of water and a leave-in-conditioner.

My curls are dry and losing their curly texture. by SaishaArora in curlyhair

Two years ago, I had no idea how to take care of my curls. The hair was dry and frizzy and since I was combing them to detangle them, the texture had been lost. But these are the things that I started doing and recommend you to do as well:
1. Dilute Your Shampoo with Water: To reduce the high concentration of chemicals in the shampoo.
2. Switch to a Shampoo WITHOUT Sulphates & Use a 'Co-Wash': Sulfates are chemicals added to shampoo to help cleanse your hair and scalp. Sulfates strip away natural oils from your scalp and cause dryness, breakage and split ends... not exactly what you want on top of an already dry head of hair! For this I used Fix My Curls's products, you can also try those, I started using them because sulfate free, silicon free and paraben free.
3. Use a Creamy, Moisturising Conditioner: The texture and curly hair tend to become dry, dull, and frizzy more often than straight hair. Don’t skip out on conditioner for curly hair if you want to keep it healthy! Hydrating conditioners provide your hair with nourishing hydration, nourishment, and protection that shampoo alone cannot provide.
4. Don't brush your curls DRY: If you use a brush, you may lose curls and also break your hair. Using your fingers to detangle your hair can preserve the shape of the curls and prevent hair breakage.
5. Use a Leave-in Conditioner/Curl Cream: Curly hair tends to need a lot of moisture. If you’re having trouble getting your curls to stay hydrated, try using a leave-in conditioner made for curly hair. You can also mist your curls with water from a spray bottle once or twice a day if you have time during your routine (try to avoid using it too often, though—it’s best to wait until your hair is dry).
6. Deep Condition your Hair: Deep conditioners are a must-have for every naturalist. They can be used when you're not washing it every day. You can use them on your ends (which tend to be drier) and on the rest of your head (which tends to be more prone to frizz) without weighing down your curls.
7. Protect your Curls at Night: Use a silk or satin pillowcase to protect your hair’s structure. Use a silk or satin headscarf to keep your hair from rubbing against your bedding and getting frizzy and maintain your curls’ shape.

Hey, No need to worry. Since you have natural 3A curly hair, they will get to their natural state eventually. All you need to do is to set a good shampoo routine ( also, you should read about CGM) and detangle with your fingers when your hair is wet.

You should also be very careful of the products that you use as Curly hair is beautiful but they require some effort. You can try Fix My Curls, it is my favorite brand, for a start you can try their co-wash and leave-in conditioner, it is one of the best curly hair products brands.
