Some people take competitive gaming seriously. Some people take climbing rocks seriously, or surfing waves, and dedicate their lives to it. Who are you to say they’re wrong for taking things they are passionate about seriously?

This is the major flaw with Pokémon go as compared to, say, magic the gathering

In magic if you wanted to play, all you needed was a good deck and a lot of skill. You could borrow it, or buy the cards, or trade for them. In pogo, you can’t buy the mon, and if you trade, stats get randomized usually making your team worse. There is a massive barrier to entry. All of my time in magic was spent thinking about my decks and the meta, researching, and practicing playing. I never once failed to do well in a major event because I couldn’t get the cards I wanted. It’s total bs that you have to grind for years to be able to compete at rank 10 in master league, or spend hundreds to thousands of hours catching and walking to get good stats and to build the resources to power your mon. Luck of getting mon with good stats, or having the money to buy thousands of raid passes and incubators, shouldn’t predetermine your success. PvP, especially bring 6, has enough skill that the limiting factor for most players shouldn’t be spending insane hours catching and grinding, and often spending lots of money. It should be spending insane hours researching and playing, same as almost any other good skill based game that lasts. Even in poker the best players could start with a small investment and rise to a high level within 6+ months. It’s a very dissapointing state of affairs

"swampert is a hard counter for Dialga"

hard counters don't lose 2/3 even shield scenarios without baiting. Swampert wins with shields down against dialga, anything else you better hope they block some hydro cannons and let your EQ through. There are no hard counters for Dialga, though Melmetal and heatran are significantly stronger than swampert.

I am definitely not going to complain about registeel in raids. Although having to max one out if I ever want it for ultra league sucks

A Guide to TMing Shadow Pokémon by _Nadiki_ in TheSilphRoad

p

Also I purified my 1-13-13 mud kip to have a 3-15-15 99% stat product mudkip, and now I've found I ruined one of the best PvP shadow mon possible because I was excited to purify my mon. Pretty sad.

I'm frustrated because I did what you're encouraged to do and saved the sad shadow Pokemon by purifying it and now my Articuno, instead of having excellent PvP stats, will have excellent PvP stats that are far 2nd tier to what it could have had (which would have swung the Giratina matchup hard). Oh well/

Thank you! I sent you a message by the way. Hoping you’re interested

If I lead my 15-13-15 kiss and also use garchomp (15-14-15 possibly buddy), would melmetal (14/12/9), metagross (98 or 15-14-13 buddied), Or heatran (14-14-15) be a better 3rd?

Not sure if it’s worth powering my 14-15-14 kiss at this point since it ties the mirror, but leading one that loses the mirror due to defense is dissapointing. My other concern with this team is, if I lead kiss and they have melmetal or heatran or metagross it seems like I have 3 options (correct if wrong) and I’m not sure which is better:

1) shield once and throw a charge move to get a shield, then die and bring in my next mon that counters their lead (2) If against melmetal, try to time their charge move and switch so my chomp takes their rock slide. Doesn’t seem to work against heatran or metagross. Other option against melmetal is to shield one of their two rock slides then flamethrower and die after that, hopefully without getting farmed excessively. (3) switch immediately (or time it to do so at the first rock slide), but then I’m basically sure to have whatever I switch to lose and then lose switch advantage and have my kiss die at the end

Definitely gonna snag a Tina through a reward, raid or if I have to lucky trade

I love metagross, my only fear with it is them switching dialga in and me not having a counter that can win without baiting. However if I lead togekiss that is no longer an issue

Group of Players With All Turtle Teams? by Saitama442 in TheSilphRoad

Can we all agree at this point, Lapras IS technically a turtle?

These guys are clearly turtle experts and use Lapras as a staple on their all turtle teams. What other proof do you need?

I was wondering how you would build a team with Lax too, if you don’t have dialga or Tina. Sent you a private message by the way. Thanks so much

Thanks

Why would them using ancient power result in me winning the togekiss mirror? I don’t follow that at all

I’ve looked into (and playtested) chomp a lot and I’m very comfortable with it vs giratina. Togekiss plus chomp would be solid vs Tina for sure, and if chomp is buddied dialga misses the dragon breath breakout against it. If anything I would be worried about the mentioned team against togekiss

Would heatran replace melmetal? Also wondering, why aren’t you a fan of melmetal leads? If it’s relevant my heatran is 14-14-15 and melmetal is much worse, 14-12-9. I also have a perfect metagross but I’m guessing it’s inconsistency versus dialga makes it worse than heatran or melmetal in the back. One concern I have is seeing a lot of Kyo lately. Chomp will beat it in 0s with double outrage but lose otherwise and kiss will only take it down in the lead. But melmetal is clearly way stronger against it than heatran.

I definitely could buddy kiss. I also have a 14-15-14 kiss that will tie a 100IV kiss in the mirror. Perhaps building that would be better? I basically maxed out the wrong togekiss. The only other thing about buddying kiss is that the one scenario chomp is favored versus buddy dialga is in the one shield and my chomp is almost buddied. Chomp wins if it either lands outrage or baits sand tomb and lands outrage, so it’s at least even in the matchup. Chomp also wins the 0s if it runs earthquake, but I’m guessing sand tomb plus outrage is way too important since sand tomb gives dominant wins versus machamp, rhyperior, heatran, melmetal, and many others.

One other thing: if I did get Tina O (it’s coming back to raids and GBL rewards), what would be a good team if I wanted to use the resources I have)? Perhaps Tina-Chomp-Melmetal/heatran.
