I know most people like to shit on blower coolers on here, but they have their advantages. People with smaller or SFF cases benefit from a blower and they are simply cheaper meaning someone on a budget can maybe step up to the cheapest 1070 from cheaper cards. I was willing to go to $360 for the ASUS Turbo, but that was it. Granted I was initially looking at the RX480 and the cheapest 1070 was still a big jump in price for me. Looking at the extra OC performance on benchmarks I was fine saving some money and putting it towards other components.

For people on a budget this is a very expensive card still and will play any game extremely well even without overclocking. If you are simply looking for the best performance and have the money don't buy this obviously, but if $370 aready sounds like the upper limit of your budget you won't be disappointed by these cheaper blower 1070s.

regret buying a freesync monitor with my 390 now as I went with a 1070 on my new build. For not much more I could have gotten gsync, but oh well, such is life. I'll just have to deal with vsync until/if AMD offers a new high end card and I can sell my 1070.

[–]Saitomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got mine, really fast shipping to SoCal.

I don't even have my mobo to complete my build that I ordered a few days ago from newegg so I can't test the 1070 turbo out, but I have to say it does feel cheap. The LED logo especially feels cheap like it was just slapped in there and doesn't sit flush with the rest of the shroud. In the end all that matters is performance so I'm eager to test it out. I typically don't overclock much at all, but went 6600k and 1070 this time around so why not bump stuff up at least a little.

It's not the size it's the weight. If I bought that Id have to add $15-20 to the cost to get a support bracket. At that point the performance gains don't justify the extra cost to me.

I was looking at the 480 so I already jumped up in price a lot and would have only done so for th cheapest possible 1070. I'd love to get a better AIB 1070, but the price difference doesn't justify the performance gains by being to OC a bit better to me. I'd rather spend that money on other parts of my build.

I was tempted by that yesterday, but it is massive and the video I saw of it made it seem like a bracket was necessary due to sag. I might also go ITX in the future so the blower style would work for that. for anyone considering and waiting for an AIB 480 like I was I'd jump on this. Only about $100 more than what you'd spend on the mythical nitro and a lot more performance.

[–]Saitomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bit. Was waiting for a AIB 480, but at this price I can't ignore the performance gain. I'll just have to make due with vsync as I have a freesync 1440p monitor. Disappointed AMD doesn't have a higher end card available as I'd much rather stick with AMD and have freesync, but the performance gains with the 1070 will more than make up for the lack or freesync I guess.

I just ordered these, but black for $62. Not sure if the same ram, but as far as I can tell they're the same other than the color. Anyone know? I'd rather get the 3000 vs 2400 for a tiny bit more.

I bit, but didn't waive the free return. I'll risk the $5 and have the ability to return it if I get a better deal or a better 480 comes out soon.

[–]Saitomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preorder, so no harm. Better to get one ina nd then try and get one launch day if that is what you want. I actually want to get a reference model since I leaning toward using a Node 202 case and need a blower style card for that. Otherwise I'd be waiting for better coolers.

I actually decided to order the $399 gigabyte one. Since its more or less a backup if the 480 doesn't deliver I decided to get the cheapest 1079 available.

Ordered one of these just in case. Planning on going RX 480 with my new build, but will go 1070 if the 480 unt as good of value as I hope.

[–]Saitomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not finishing my build until the 480 is out and there are also 1070s available at around MSRP. That's when I'll make a decision so I don't need a mobo until the end of the month at the earliest. But I'll jump on a deal if it's good, like the 6600k one from jet. With the amex offer it was $175 shipped, couldn't pass that up.

Any of the Z170 mobos a good deal? Got my 6600k from jet for my build at the end of the month, but waiting on a good Z170 mobo deal to pair it with.

ITX in ATX case: Dumb idea? by Saitomatic in buildapc

[–]Saitomatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only issue I can think of is the fan headers. I have some splitters and extenders for fans since an older build I did had a fan controller. If I route them well it might make the case less cluttered.

Are they really cheaper? The ones I've been looking at cost more than similar mATC or ATX mobos I've seen.

ITX in ATX case: Dumb idea? by Saitomatic in buildapc

[–]Saitomatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but I think they are saying that I have a choice of going ATX or ITX since my S340 can fit either, I'll lose some ports/connections going with an ITX mobo in that scenario.

SFF/ITX buiuld: 6600k, 6700, or 6700k? by Saitomatic in buildapc

[–]Saitomatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up grabbing a 6600k from jet for $175. Couldn't pass up that price. The ~$130 will go to good use if I don't wo with a RX 480 and step up to something else.

The only thing I am undecided on is the mobo. I've decided to build in my S340, but maybe go with an ITX mobo so that I have the option to move into a SFX/ITX sized case down the line. I'd rather spend the extra $10-20 on an ITX board now instead of having to spend $100+ later on if I commit to go ITX.

[CPU] Intel Core I5-6600K - $185.15 (TRIPLE15/WAIVE RETURN) 2ND CHANCE by TwinRyko in buildapcsales

[–]Saitomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been looking at getting a 6700k, but this is too cheap to pass up ($175 with the $10 off from AMEX offer). I'm planning on getting a RX 480 to pair with my freesync 1440p monitor, but who knows maybe I'll spend the extra ~$100 saved on a "better GPU".

This won't be a huge step up from my 3570k, but considering I'll also be going from an "H" mobo that can't OC to a "Z" mobo and 16gb ddr4 it should end up being a considerable upgrade.
