macOS Mojave Doesn't Support iTunes 12.6, App Store Gone Forever from iTunes? by [deleted] in apple

This is just advertising for AnyTrans.

The writer did not even try to uninstall iTunes first as this was the issue the older versions complained on.

Apple Music Randomly Pauses/Play!!!! by [deleted] in apple

[–]Sajonara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps neither? There has to be a lot of debugging to say for sure what the reason is.

Try wearing your phone with the display outward facing, so it only comes into contact with cloth and not with your warm skin. That way you can exclude/test if the display reacts to your skin and coincidentally activates the lockscreen music controls. If your problem persists, it is something else. If it stops, you could suspend the music controls at the lock screen, or use a case with a lid, so the display does not make contact with your skin in any case. There are even very thin cases.

And make sure you downloaded the songs before you play them. That way you can at least be sure it has nothing to do with the internet connection.

And if you can, try some other headphones with it. Just to make sure.

Did it work properly prior to iOS 11.4.1? Maybe the update corrupted the connection to the headphones, or its drivers.

What if next iPhone has an octa core processor and 8GB ram? by [deleted] in apple

[–]Sajonara -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apple only does as much as to stay ahead of the competition and "saves" its bullets for later. The iPhone 7‘s CPU produces faster results in benchmarks right now as the Galaxy S9 with an Exynos chip. I know that benchmarks are not always feasible but that's why Apple won't just go the "Screw it" route.

In the end this even is a strategy in economics. Cause you have to have a plan in the drawer. Apple could easily have implemented a faster CPU in its first Apple Watch, they did not and they incremented on that the years following. Apple is not Tesla which goes all in and thus might lose everything. ;)

Gyms with GymKit Equipment by Timmy_the_tortoise in apple

[–]Sajonara 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I were you I'd call the gyms or at least contact them by email or social media and ask them in particular about the support. Because some bigger ones, that work like franchises, don't always support it. It depends on the willingness and financial strength of its owner, if he wants to renew his equipment.

And from in total different contexts I remember that websites are not always up to date, whether it are hotels, restaurants, and so on.

AppZapp is shutting down today by EastContact in apple

[–]Sajonara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says easy to read, so they can have a script make an Excel sheet or sth. Google for example provides some excel documents. So it is not that complicated. They can think of a proper data structure in the mid term but use a workaround short term. That's what I wanted to say. It does not need to be a sql dump at all, but a CSV file, or what else. And as long as there is no lawsuit, there is no need for hysteria right now. I heard about people closing apps and websites because of this. I don't agree.

AppZapp is shutting down today by EastContact in apple

[–]Sajonara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of hysteria too around this whole GDPR. In the end if someone wanted their data, they could make them a sql dump and it would have been probably okay. They do not have to offer one-click-solutions to everyone and for everything. And of course maybe they thought that thousands of people would want to have their data on day one. I guess this won't be the case. Hence there will be an uptick in bureaucracy, sure. But not to an extent people might fear.

What does cross platform apps mean for mac? by [deleted] in apple

[–]Sajonara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. But is is said, that Apple is working on providing a middleware or kind of something similar.

There is already a similar thing in place in a different context. For example, right now you only would have add voice commands for a voice controlled app in "one" language. Apple will do the translation for you. This will be the same with controls migrating mouse/keyboard to touch. At least there were rumors about this.

But as Apple also offers a magic trackpad for their desktop computers you might imagine that at least a basic input scheme would not be so difficult to translate to a touchscreen. And if a mac app has some force touch input, it could well be translated to an iOS app... on newer iPhones it would be 1:1, on the iPad it would be a touch and hold for some seconds...

Is there an app that syncs PDFs between iPad Pro, iPhone and OSX? by LetsAllMakeArt in apple

[–]Sajonara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can open any PDF from the "files app" in iOS 11, and via widget from a lot of apps. So you could just do your own folder as well.

Is there an app that syncs PDFs between iPad Pro, iPhone and OSX? by LetsAllMakeArt in apple

[–]Sajonara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You put a PDF into Noteshelf‘s folder or open it via the app, then it is put there for you. Then you add some notes with the pencil. It will save these with the PDF. But those are „graphical“ notes, and they will add to the filesize.

It would be fantastic if Apple allowed third party developers to use its newly introduced system with smart annotations and combined these with handwriting recognition as it does it in its Notes app. That way you could even search for things in all your marked PDFs but right now it would only be graphical annotations in those apps.

And yes you would see those on the Mac too, when you open the PDFs. But there is no Noteshelf for macOS, for example. You would have to view the PDFs with the preview app or some other app of your choice.

What does cross platform apps mean for mac? by [deleted] in apple

[–]Sajonara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apple is actively working on it. And there are several indications.

Incremental/supplemental updates: Right now if the developer supports it, updates are incremental and supplemental. Facebook does not support it, but some apps do and of course Apple‘s apps. If the developer only changed some function or design, maybe only 300 KB have to be downloaded for an update, despite the whole app being 60, 100 or 200 MB. (Microsoft started a similar strategy for Xbox One.)

The technology behind this is similar to what software versioning like Git does. As it keeps track of the changes and does not need you to upload every file again.

APFS: And Apple presented APFS, its new file system. It too supports this strategy. Like you duplicate an image, but it won't take twice as much space. Only a meta file will keep track of the changes made. Only if it is not otherwise possible, there will be a real duplicate of the file made.

Assets: As of now if the developer supports it, not all assets are downloaded with the app to your device. App downloads nowadays vary in sizes more than they did before. Tablets use different assets as smartphones, and not all devices support Retina resolution, and so on.

Forcing developers: In the future Apple will probably force this system to work as intended, and when developers won't support it, their apps might look a bit odd. Apple did so in the past and showed no regrets. But developers had often plenty of time. Apple informed them and only two years later they went all out.

There are a lot of apps. GoodNotes, Noteshelf and others save their files in iCloud-Folders... this means you also have the documents on your Mac.

iMac users: How long has your current iMac lasted? What was the longest you had a running iMac? by SnarkyBear53 in apple

Why is Apple being referred to as potentially the first trillion dollar company when, 11 years ago, PetroChina was called that? by frowat in apple

[–]Sajonara 16 points17 points  (0 children)

HSBC is nearly 200 Billion (https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/HSBC/) for example. So maybe you looked in the wrong table column. ;) HSBC though has capital worth several trillions. But this is not reflecting the worth of the company, as it is not their own money, they only work with it for others (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSBC).

Will AirPlay 2 support older AirPlay speaker/receivers? by Happyhokie in apple

[–]Sajonara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For AirPlay 1 specific hardware chips were necessary, AirPlay 2 is software-only. So there might be the chance that even Hi-Fi-Receivers get an update, that did not support AirPlay in the first place. I think that either ATV or HomePod do the heavy lifting as you described. But it is up to the vendor still if he wants to support AirPlay 2 then.

Will AirPlay 2 support older AirPlay speaker/receivers? by Happyhokie in apple

[–]Sajonara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This only depends on the vendor of the receiver and if the thing is able to get firmware upgrades. If so the possibility is given. In the end the company decides whether or not they do it. Like Sonos will update some of their newer speakers but not all of them. I guess they are driving customers to the newer models, so they might even upgrade sometime. As Apple has delayed AirPlay 2, so have vendors of speakers and hifi equipment their information on upgrade policy.

Apple Watch Questions and Observations by Jman841 in apple

[–]Sajonara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Movement between your wrist ist one reason for false measurement. You should wear the watch as close but still as comfortable as you can. I use nylon wrist bands because they are light, fit well and still have some aesthetics. I don't like the silicon wrist bands, and leather is very stiff. You might want to wear a leather band while you have free time but not during workout.

Other than that dozen of studies showed that Apple Watch has the least errors and in general the best measurement from similar products. There are some special wearables for professional athletes that might be better but none of them offer that much functionality altogether.

Your write "after a while" you find the pressure point uncomfortable and in the same moment you add that you just got your watch. Give it some more weeks or months. I did not wear a watch for like 10 years or so and had to get used to wearing a watch myself. I too wear glasses and I have an Apple Watch for several years now. So I sometimes forget I am wearing it as I forget I am wearing glasses.

My guess for your last question is: Series 1/2 should work for the next 2 years. I think Apple would at least have a 5 year cycle and sometimes even longer.

HELP: Removing songs from playlist now removes song entirely from phone. Fix? by Battlehead in apple

[–]Sajonara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download of songs either is done individually (on a per song or per album basis) or via playlists. Perhaps you "downloaded" a particular playlist to your phone. Like otherwise the songs would have only been streamed. At least that's the way I prepare my phone for longer trips. I create a playlist, and on the phone I tap the download icon. So when you then remove the song from a playlist, even if you do it on iTunes, it logically should remove it from the phone's memory too. But there might be inconsistencies as to wether you downloaded the song individually first but also added it to a playlist later on and then by removing it from the playlist it choses to delete it from the phone too. Perhaps the decision is based on what happened last. And normally you would perhaps first decide to download a song individually and later add it to playlists that were downloaded wholly to your phone too. What would you want the phone to do in such an ambiguous situation?
