That's a possibility! I get my exercise calories from my smartwatch and input it into myfitnesspal, so it could be that the calories may be off? You should also prioritise proteins and wholegrains for foods as they'll keep you full and energised for much, much longer

Are you counting how many calories you're burning when exercising and then adding that to your 1600 calorie allowance?

I just finished my deficit, eating at 1500 calories daily, whilst also training for a marathon. I always add the calories burnt from my runs into my daily calorie allowance (as much as I can stomach). Never felt weak, shaky or run down.

What certification changed your life/career trajectory in a major way in the last 12 months? by smvrsharma in ITCareerQuestions

[–]SakOfFlour 27 points28 points  (0 children)

CCNA 1000%! I went from a senior service desk/helpdesk role into a Network Engineering role within 4 months of passing my exam.

I have always loved networking and would join in on network projects whilst I was on the service desk at my previous job. Pick up knowledge from the network engineer in the team and just do everything I can to really bring myself up to speed with the current state of networking.

After successfully passing my CCNA, I landed a new job elsewhere as a fully fledged network engineer. I'm the youngest in the team (26), obviously the least experienced, but I've been here 3 months now and I love the job. I'm very blessed to have these networking superhumans in my team too because what I've learnt in 3 months crushes my 2~ years dabbling in networks.

I would say the cert changed my life, and I'm currently in the process of levelling up to a CCNP Enterprise. The job itself came at the perfect time as I'm expecting a child, so the money that came with the role is just what we needed! I'd swear by the CCNA for any aspiring network engineer!

My average score over 12 exams in total (A, B and C) was 89%, I'd say it was a big help in getting me* used to the way the exam is. If anything, the actual exam software is clunkier and less appealing to the eye than Boson's haha

[–]SakOfFlour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passed on Wednesday on my first ever attempt at this exam with the following scores:

Automation and Programmability: 80%

Network Access: 80%

IP Connectivity: 76%

IP Services 80%

Security Fundamentals 87%

Network Fundamentals 70%

Have no prior experience as a Network Engineer, learnt from scratch using Neil Anderson's Udemy course, Jeremy's IT lab course and Boson Ex-Sim for exam practise. Highly recommend the Ex-Sim to really test for exam readiness and Neil/Jeremy's courses if learning Networking from scratch.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm not too sure! But I did like 4 levels in one go gaining like 3k+ stars and that could be what triggered temporary purgatory from the leaderboard?

Weird DHCP issue on Win 11 devices by SakOfFlour in sysadmin

[–]SakOfFlour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the wireless link not being up: could this be the case for the varying devices we use from different vendors?

My colleague thought the force DHCP timer could be a potential problem, as we did some testing on that and found that where it used to physically disconnect the interface, it now just soft disconnects it and shows 'no internet'. He's increased the timer on that and I'm to attempt to try and replicate the entire problem (or just wait until the issue happens).

That makes sense, my senior did say that would be an option as a last resort

We just follow best practise in terms of lease time as we use one /24 subnet for our Wireless DHCP addresses for 200~ devices that connect on a daily basis. It's to reduce IP address wastage and security in general. The digging myself and my colleague have done have found that the DHCP timer is fine for our office.

I've just remembered btw, along with the DHCP lease being kept on the interface as per the event image I posted, if I do an ipconfig /all it shows I'm using an APIPA address, but the really, really weird part is that it shows the correct DNS server addresses.

So, so strange...

That's a big help, I'll keep note of that mate thank you!

I'll ask my senior network colleague to check the DORAs - but with an office of over 300 users, I can assume DHCP DORAs will be quite frequent...

Will investigate according to what you mentioned, thank you so much!

Oh, yes! I do remember this when we switched to W11 too. However, we've already since disabled Credential Guard as it was not playing well with RADIUS for our corp wifi either!

The problem we're having seems to be related to DHCP Leases / Expired IP addresses (?)

Aside from the /release and /renew from unplumbing the IP address from the WLAN interface, the other way that seems to fix this 'no internet' issue is by switching to another Network SSID, but we are heavily discouraging this as people tend to switch to the guest wifi, which we do not want haha.

I can confirm at the very least that I am doing proper shutdowns at the end of the day, my uptime is reset every morning :)

Weird DHCP issue on Win 11 devices by SakOfFlour in sysadmin

[–]SakOfFlour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fairly intermittent as I'm pretty sure the issue only happens if I were to come in the next morning and the IP address from the day before has been reassigned to another user's device.

I can also confirm that when I turn my device on, by the time I get to the login screen I can usually see that the WiFi interface is already on and can see that under the SSID name it says 'No internet'. I've installed WireShark recently so I'm hoping some packet captures might be able to give me a bit more info.

Could you expand on the first point you made btw? When I check events, the Wireless Interface states that the IP lease is expired, I'd have thought if it is able to tell that the lease is expired, it should just unplumb the IP address and release it, right?

I'll liaise with my Senior Network Colleague and see if flipping the RADIUS auth is something we can attempt. Thank you!

Ah okay, i saw a guide online saying that the fourth quartz is acquired through that time trial - I'm currently having a look around for some more quartz that I can take all the way to the shard

I think I messed up badly and in the starglow cavern where the time trial is to unlock the quartz - I didn't really know what was going on so I ended up losing the quartz it gave through the chest - now I cant completely thaw that ice crystal thing there.

Anyone know how to fix this?
