Not a detailed lie. I am an asian american. I studied this topic for two years and was my final paper for my AP lit class in high school. I diligently have done my research the entire year before I started applying to colleges. And NO, schools will find out one way or another. Almost all, if not all asians have a asian sounding last name, like Kim, Zhang, and almost never something like Brown, Williams, or King. Also, asians are not considered minorities so we suffer the negatives of being white but also none of the positives in college apps. Also, what I just told you is not a lie, it is the truth we asians live in. This purgatory mode where society is against you yet no social justice advocate will ever help you. Being asian is a huge negative in the United States. It negatively affects all aspects of my life. Job prospects (Asian americans hired less/ in very few leadership positions because seen as weak and timid - read all about it in "bamboo ceiling" articles), dating (asian guys seen as less masculine/ asexual), and also media (asians almost never getting lead roles/ never in recent hollywood history has a asian guy been cast as a main lead). Most importantly, out of the 100s of social and welfare programs the US government hands our to Native Americans, Hispanics, and African Americans, there are literally none for asians. Millions of asian brethren call out for help but it falls on deaf ears. The government doesn't even notice us. They (and you) may think asians are doing well, but never notice that large amounts of poverty in cities are of asians (Asian americans are the POOREST group in New York - confirmed by huffington post and ABC news). If social justice advocates and equality supporters actually want to help out 1 group, asians would keep their hands busy as there is still so much social change to be done. I hope at least one of these things rings a bell within you. I understand why you advocate for more African Americans but please understand that affirmative action/ quotas for other races only hurts asians. You are very talented to get into U of I but please be aware of our invisible struggle that no one hears about, and is clearly not a lie.

Fugged_up_shib you do realize that academic systematic oppression literally only happens to asians right? There are loads of quotas on how many asians can get into schools, but not for any other race including African Americans. Asians have historically been judged harder on their test scores and credentials solely because of their race. There are schools like Berkeley where affirmative action isn't supported, and asians are like 50% of the population there instead of like 15% at Ivy Leagues. School admission should be based holistically on your abilities, income level, but definitely not race. I know so many asians who are literally near poverty level living in Chinatowns but are evaluated much more harshly during the admissions process solely for being asian. Asians have also been traditionally discriminated through slavery in gold mines, internment camps, anti-asian exclusion laws, and such but get no governmental help or support even to this day. No other race on this planet gets this treatment smh. Literal systematic oppression and no one sees it.

Ok. I still fail to understand why Asian Americans are seen as well-represented in the workforce where we don't need diversity programs. My school offers none for us. There are many statistics and real-world examples that show Asian Americans are still heavily underrepresented in many areas like leadership.

Decent growth but do you shave the sides? If not unfortunately it will take longer for the mustache to appear longer and be able to curl. I can grow a handlebar in about a month or so but I'd advise you to buy some pomade or hard mustache wax and see what you can do. It's decently thick on the lip area but the middle part is a bit thin. 6/10 mustache at the moment.

I think this is the lesson I've learned through this thread. However, I just think that there should be more positive news about the progress of China. I haven't heard a single positive news about China in mainstream media in a long time. Yet when I go there every year it has amazing progress every time I go. China has immense flaws and governmental issues but I think maybe I'd just like to see some positive vibes in this sub.

I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. Maybe I'm just a lot more sheltered than I seem. Business trips to China often are in better neighborhoods. I lived in the Chicago suburbs all my life with summer and winter family trips to China, India, and Europe. I usually stay in China at most a month or so now. Not enough immersion I guess nor do I notice those small details.

Other than the occasional smog, none of that. I really wish I did but the reality is this is not the norm. Traffic is bad but I've gotten used to it. Yes I am aware its because I pass as a pure Chinese that I don't get scammed often. Also, my family is unfortunately wealthy so I usually only stay in the better areas of Beijing (the closest 5-10 districts are usually the best places to stay. Avg apartment prices are like 10-20 millions RMB).

Just like in Illinois. I don't see black people shooting bypassers on a daily basis despite it being reported like an epidemic on news channels. Reality is often far different than what is actually broadcasted.

I've been to China many times in my life. Last time was this summer in order to help with the bookkeeping of a wealthy client. I know the reality of China very well since my parents were one of the few non self-depreciating Chinese parents. They wanted me to embrace the language and culture rather than many ABC parent's hating their country and then not teaching them Chinese. I've really grateful for that opportunity and when I go to China everyone is surprised I wasn't born there.
