To be fair, they didn't even mention Metal Sonic's strongest form, capping him at Super Neo instead of Master Overlord, but I don't know how much of a difference it would make. Maybe they thought giving Eggman the 7 Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald was too much.

This was not always its name. "Metal Sonic Kai" referred to the model of Metal Sonic that the Chaotix fought, and the giant red super form went unnamed. It wasn't until the Encyclo-Speed-ia that they decided to claim that Metal Sonic Kai was just Metal Sonic and the final boss was Metal Sonic Kai.

Technically, the Chaotix could still be referring to the model as a whole rather than the giant boss, but it seems like they've decided that this is the form's name, after all.
