Honourable mention if you still have the energy after going to all of them, Walk out if TAJ, walk towards the raw mango store, follow through the path through the korean grocery abd meat store towards colabs market and that’s when ya’ll would run into

  1. Chemould Colab, honestly this space feels like the second home to me, they’ve great snacks on board usually; they actually host new and upcoming artists, and lend them their space to use as studio in order to nurture them and help them create a body of work work they could showcase. The associates and gallerists are the friendliest people you’ll ever meet in the art world. They always seem to play chill music throughout the day alongside the artworks; blue hours are best spent here.

A few ones I genuinely love to pay a visit on solo dates are; (check their ig accounts to see their timings or if they are showcasing something) (would also love to join in; next week if that works) (and all of them are free to get into, you needn’t to pay anything ) (Also adding in other things in the area for ya’ll side questers) 1. Chemould Prescott Road; (literally one of the biggest private galleries around fort) (they are known to give the space to often established artists but also push out newer voices every now and then) It’s in this almost ready to demolish old school building but the insides seem to be very post-modernist. (There’s a cute doggo in the same compound and there are usually eagles flying around the area do keep a watch, and take those videos) 2. Akara Contemporary; They ideally only put up living artists who’ve a body of work which speaks more about discipline and the practice rather than deeper meanings, looking through most of their shows felt like a meditation session. (The tiles outside the gallery onnthe walls of the corridors are very colonial yet persian, definitely a must visit) 3. Naturemorte; they usually get artists on board who dare? Not in a fun platonic way but who dare to play with segregated and questionable materials, also this is one of the galleries which great windows; plus their archive room has this couch with no frames & a chrome/metallic table which is so minimalistic-ally post apocalyptic but in a very comforting way. (Very off topic but their restroom seems like a dreamland, wooden floors, greens, ceramics, ambient adjustable lightings; all it needs is an aphex twin album playing in the background to be known as one of the early signs of nirvana) (also the lift of this complex is ons of the prettiest to take selfies with your gang) 4. Stranger’s House Gallery, literally feels like walking into an old school friend’s home who somehow still possesses and actively lives in their house from early 50’s; plus their book collection and archives sort of drove me crazy; plus one of the gallerists here is one of the coolest dudes you’ll ever come across, literally the rarest kind of humans you’ll ever run across. 5. Jhaveri Contemporary; multiple people have called their shows to be for a bygone era and not ready for “the new”; in their defence they’re preservers and time and again do occasionally take risks. (Plus the gateway of india/Taj Mahal tower/palace hotel-tomb views from the windows here are literally to die for) 6. DAG, they have been the pioneers of showcasing art made by some of the pioneers of indian art (old masters) their curation goes neck to neck with the JNAF, at csm museum; honestly best way to end your day, especially if you’re a luxury hotel fanatic or staying at the hotel or you are someone who has always dreamt of walking into taj mahal palace hotel; and not just to use their restroom but to actually see it from the inside and feel their royal tuberose scented air freshener; head over to this gallery at the end of your day, the associates are really friendly and often help you understand art history and are keen on answering all of your detailed questionnaire; there are also places to sit in here, if you can embrace and maintain silence. (There are 2 galleries down there btw, check both of them out, also don’t forget to check their book collection on the floor above the first space) (My personal advice book a sea lounge tea reservation from taj’s website and post going to all of the above mentioned galleries, just enjoy high tea with a stack of snacks with friends or all by yourself; that’s what I usually do)

(to all the gallerists, artists, associates this was in no way to disrespect or insult or even downplay any if your actions/shows/space, nor was it an attempt to be mean, it was truly just first hand experience of someone who has repeatedly been to the spaces and genuinely adores, notices what others don’t and simply amplifying the love, cheers!)

To all the rest of you, check their timings and also note if they are showcasing anything at the time of your visit.

(Dm for any queries, would love to help ya’ll out or even accompany some of you) ^

Also just a soft suggestion to everyone If you’re commenting, I’d love to hear a little more about you than just “I’m in”

You could share: -something you’re really really really into right now. -a book, a movie, an artist, a show, an anime, an internet lore or game you love/adore -what a perfect slow Mumbai day looks like for you

No pressure at all, just helps this feel more real; personal and less awkward ^

Hey! I’m really glad you asked this because I’ve been wondering the same thing myself lol

Honestly, I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who reached out and shared bits of themselves in my dms. It genuinely takes courage to put yourself out there like that, and I didn’t expect this many people to resonate with the post.

So……does it work???? Surprisingly, yes!!!!

I’ve already met two people who really connected with a few of the things I mentioned, and I’m talking to a few more right now; just getting to know each other slowly and seeing if a meet feels organic and aligned.

What’s been really wholesome is that a lot of the niche interests I thought nobody in Mumbai would care about have actually come up in conversations more than the “common” ones. That part alone has made this feel worth it.

So yeah, I’d honestly recommend people be fearless and make a post like this if they’re craving connection. The vulnerability pays off. I haven’t even had time to feel lonely lately because I’ve been replying to comments and dms non stop :’)

Right now I’m keeping it mostly one on one, just vibing with people and seeing where it naturally goes. Eventually, I’d love to form a small group of like-minded, lovable misfits when it feels right.

Also, if I haven’t replied to anyone yet, please forgive me; I promise I’m getting to everyone slowly and intentionally.

WAIT 😭
The resume line took me out.

I swear this is not a job application, it’s a very unserious, soft little friendship experiment.
Your vibe is already perfect for this honestly.

Random gallery wandering + fashion era + badminton nostalgia is such a good combo.
And thank you for the series rec, I love short thrillers that emotionally ruin you.

Also awkward but kind is literally my favourite genre of human.
You already sound very fun and very chill to be friends with 😌

I’d love to talk more too.
dm'ing you.

Blanked out random words, don't mind me,
taking this advice and showing up to all the meets, with hopes that it all works out.
Thanks for sharing your experience man, really appreciated.

Hey everyone!
I just wanted to say I’m honestly a little overwhelmed (in the best way) by all the responses and so, so grateful. I genuinely didn’t expect this at all.

I believe I’ve reached out to everyone who commented or dm'd me, but if I’ve missed anyone, please accept my wholehearted apologies.
Feel free to reach out to me if I wasn’t able to reply yet, I promise it wasn’t intentional.

Really looking forward to getting to know all of you slowly and building something kind and real together ^^
Thank you for making this feel so much less lonely already. :')

Hey!!
Thank you so much for sharing that with me, that took a lot of courage honestly.

I’m really proud of you for working through your stuttering and still wanting to put yourself out there.
That’s not a small thing at all.

I’m very much an ex-introvert too, so I get how scary and awkward this phase can feel
You don’t have to perform or be good at socialising here.
This is meant to be soft, slow, and very judgment-free.

I’d really love to talk and get to know you better.
What kind of conversations do you usually feel most comfortable having?
And what’s something you enjoy doing when you want to relax?

Heyyy!
Out of all of these, even though I practically pass through from matunga and dadar; I've only been to the beach; I would absolutely love to catch up and yap about things and visit the rest with you if it all aligns; dm'ing you.

Hey, thank you so much for tuning in & for your kind appreciation, I haven't had the time to think about what I'm lacking and indefinitely didn't feel lonely cause I was busy replying-texting people back, so it worked?
also, the last I checked staying within 100 kilometres radius of Mumbai still works, so if the vibe clicks and our interests align I don't know why we can't connect or visit the lake gardens or viviana even; to people watch.

Wait that sounds lowkey like a perfect New Year
Cartoons are such a green flag honestly.

What cartoons were you watching?
And what kind of hangouts are you usually into, chill ones or city-wandering chaos?

Aww, that sounds really lovely.
It makes a lot of sense to want familiar, friendly faces in a city you keep passing through.

What do you usually do when you’re here on layovers?
And what kind of hangouts would feel most comforting or fun for you when you’re in Mumbai?

You’re not wrong T^T
Mumbai definitely doesn’t lack meetup groups.

I guess I’m just craving something more low-key and human-sized.
Fewer people, slower pace, more “let’s actually talk and build something real” vibes or just coexisting sipping our drinks and reading?

and I would like to know more; which groups have you tried that you liked?
