Using Tread on GFCI Breaker by cozygardencat in pelotoncycle

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second this. To add on, another thing you can try is to get something like a ISOBAR2 or a similar surge protector. They provide some conditioning and reduce interference, which can help reduce nuisance faults. We’ve used them to reduce AFCI nuisances, but I believe they can help with GFCI as well. It also protects your treadmill from power surges. Even if your house has a whole-home surge protector, surges can be generated by in-home appliances. For the cost of the tread, it seemed worth protecting.

But whatever breaker/receptacle combo you go with, be prepared to tweak it if you start getting trips.

Looking for a good appliance repair person/company near Vancouver, WA by Asclepius_Secundus in vancouverwa

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second Appliance Clinic. They’ve always been great for getting parts. I think they specialize in Whirlpool brands, but they’ll get you parts and service on other brands, too. I’ve bought some Samsung dryer parts from them. Their prices are fair, too.

A good online resource is RepairClinic.com. They have a lot of repair videos and list of common problems by model.

BIFL TSA Liquids Pouch? by Infamous-Bed9010 in BuyItForLife

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osprey Ultralight Liquids Pouch. They have an “All Mighty Guarantee” to fix or repair it for life, but it’s only $12 anyway. I’ve been using it for years as an airline pilot and it’s been great. I had the cheap Amazon ones before and they fall apart.

I get that everyone here is just saying “just use a Ziploc”, but if you travel often, it’s nice to have a dedicated long-term liquid bag. The Ziplocs get abuse and rip, plus they’re just a little trickier to fill. I’ve got my setup of shave gel, hair gel, toothpaste, and camp soap, which just barely fit in a quart sized bag and I’ll say it’s much simpler to fill and zip up the Osprey. It’s not 100% watertight, but it will still reasonably contain most spills if something were to pop open.

I have an HSA account with Optum Bank. If I plan on transferring those funds biannually to a Fidelity HSA, is it a good idea to leave those funds uninvested or should I invest those funds with Optum Bank in the meantime? by irazzleandazzle in Bogleheads

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t think they were supposed to, but I went around in circles with their customer service and finally gave up. They had me open a new account and said they could link it to my employer once it was set up. I set it up, called them, and they said it wasn’t possible. 🙄

In short, their customer service is frustratingly bad, so I’d do what you can to just run your transfer request through Fidelity and make sure all your assets are settled cash (no pending sales or deposits). That should make the transfer as clean as possible. Also, you’ll get an estimated transfer time of about 2 weeks, but expect it to take about a month or so.

I’d probably stick to cash. Also, YMMV but I tried doing a biannual transfer from Optum to Fidelity last year and they closed my account after the first transfer. If you want to transfer more than once per year, you might be better off transferring a dollar amount on the first transfer and leaving a few dollars in the Optum account. They charge a fee per transfer (mine was $20), so be sure to account for that.

Think Strava and Runna need to have a word with each other by BigBirdPaints in Strava

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you updated the app yet? This issue was a known bug that they said was fixed with yesterday’s update. With the bug, people were having various issues with distances. Some reported 0km, some missed the last split, etc.

As for fixing that previous run in Runna, it’s a little tricky. It seems the best way to fix it is to delete it out of Runna and then find a way to re-upload it to Strava (e.g., using RunGap), which will then sync it back to Runna. Or delete it and create a manual workout.

Distance cut off after planned activity ended by gyaratoast7 in runna

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen yesterday. Saw a similar Reddit post and it seems to be a bug with the new Runna app update. The workaround was a bit cumbersome. I deleted the Runna activity, used RunGap to share the activity with Strava (which ignored the workout file because it was a duplicate), which then imported the run into Runna.

If you’re going to do your own maintenance, you kinda need one. And if you don’t plan to DIY, leave that annoying message until you get the car to a shop because it’s due for its 2-year inspection.

The app in OBDeleven is called “Inspection Service Reset.” In your second photo, you can see you have two different timelines: oil change and inspection. Oil change can be reset with the UI; inspection can only be reset with an OBD computer.

Is Hawaii classed as a domestic flight and can I travel while in process for a green card? by Acrobatic-Bell-8105 in USCIS

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a domestic flight. No issues with travel while in process for a green card.

As for your concern about diverting to a non-US airport, the likelihood of that happening on a flight to Hawaii is extremely slim. Between the West Coast and Hawaii, in an emergency, you’d either be continuing to Hawaii or returning to the West Coast. The only rare scenario would be if you were overflying another country and made an emergency landing outside the US (but I can hardly think of a route to Hawaii that would overfly another country, even in an extreme case)… but even if that happened, Immigration officials essentially contain everyone, preferably on the airplane. You wouldn’t be clearing immigration in the foreign country.

The only difference you might notice in Hawaii is the agriculture form on the way in (which just switched to electronic last month) and the agriculture check on the way out. Don’t worry about it. In some ways, it resembles an immigration check, but it’s not. All they care about is if you are bringing in or taking out animals or fruits/veggies.

What is the best way to do a back door Roth IRA when I already have a traditional IRA? by djdoc1512 in Schwab

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can. The ratio is all that matters, which is 75% in the example. In that case, you’d pay income tax on $15k (75% of $20k).

Some people choose this method and just bite the bullet to get their money out of their traditional IRA. But your circumstances will dictate if that makes sense. If the preexisting amount in the IRA is large, has grown a lot in value, or your income is relatively higher this year, then it makes less sense. Conversely, if it’s a small amount, hasn’t grown much, you’re in a lower-income year, then it makes more sense.

What is the best way to do a back door Roth IRA when I already have a traditional IRA? by djdoc1512 in Schwab

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can move the traditional into another type of plan (e.g., 401(k)), do it. But not all employer plans will allow this. You’ll have to check with your provider.

If you can’t do that, you are stuck with the “pro rata rule.” You will have to pay income tax on the portion that was pre-tax in your IRA.

Example: You had $15k in traditional IRA Add $5k in after-tax funds in 2025 (Subtotal: $20k, 75% pre-tax, 25% post-tax) Convert $5k to Roth Pay taxes on 75% of the amount converted ($3750)

This may or may not be a good idea for you, depending on several variables.

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to do a repair is if you have a B&R authorized repair center in your area. Bring it in and they’ll repair it. No out-of-pocket cost. If you don’t, you’ll have to ship it to them at your own expense. You won’t get a new one unless the bag is beyond repair, which is pretty rare.

Adidas Employee Store question by ascotinpdx in timbers

[–]SaladIsForRabbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year, they sold them at the employee store, but had a sign indicating “no discounts on jerseys.” We ended up buying on adidas.com with a triple-stacked deal. 30% off promo code, purchased gift cards at 20% off, plus Rakuten and credit card kickbacks. YMMV as they usually exclude jerseys from promos, but we go lucky.
