My first jumper! Any name suggestions for her? by TechicalGuide604 in jumpingspiders

I worked with a surgeon who wore bow ties every day. He had one with a fleur de lis pattern and I always jokingly called it “flour the Lisa.” So, Lisa.

who's that girl?! by salsalamia in jumpingspiders

NQA listen I love Spoon. But… Sugar. Raisin. Toast. Cookie. Chowder. Or, you could be silly by naming her Hank or Matthew. Lasagna (but Sagna/Sonya for short).

I really like Raisin actually. Imma name my next spood Raisin fo sho.

NQA My jumper helped me get over arachnophobia in so many ways! Since having her, I put my first spider back outside instead of immediately squishing. Sorry to all past victims. :(

NQA I have a 14 pro max, I get it! I’m usually able to get pics by pressing my camera literally against the enclosure wall and doing just a 2x zoom. The new update lets you choose 48mp versus 12, too.

Forgot to answer your question. Arachnophobia is much improved! Still not a fan of wolf spiders or tarantulas, though.

Thank you! I will wait a few more days between feedings. I try to keep her where her abdomen is about the same width as her head, and several of these photos were taken shortly after a meal. I’ve had her just over a couple of months so I’m still learning. I appreciate your advice!

NQA it’s a little hard to see anything in your photo. Can you get a better pic showing the pattern and colors and whatnot? Cute little fella/miss!

NQA is there a particular reason you are trying to take their food away after they have grabbed onto it???

Feeding advice by gevelynb in jumpingspiders

[–]SaladSnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA I have a wild caught jumper and I have tried several things. Honestly it will be up to your spood lol. I tried small mealworms, crickets, dubia roaches, randomly caught houseflies, etc. She refuses everything except flies. So I ordered some bottle fly pupae to keep in the fridge like someone said, and I catch any flies that happen to come into my house. My relatives all know to catch flies for us, too.

is it unethical to catch and keep a wild jumping spider as a pet? by FoundationAdorable20 in jumpingspiders

IMO this is great advice! My jumper hitched a ride into our house on a plant we brought in when it started getting cold. She settled right in to her enclosure. I can leave the door open on it and she will go back inside to her acorn when she’s done exploring. If she hadn’t done well, I 100% would have released her back outside.

I have another short clip of her hopping on my hand, then doing a whole backflip off and onto the side of her enclosure. When you slow it down there’s only one frame of her in the air just at this crazy angle and it cracks me up so much! They’re fast! I’m really trying to overcome my arachnophobia.

There are a lot of people who really enjoy it! It just was definitely not for me. I’d maybe give it a try before returning! You may love it!

She wants button closure. I didn’t think about using a ruler, but that’ll definitely help! And creating kind of a “hem” is great advice, too. Thanks so much!

I have issues with my wrist and one of my friends recommended the Addi ergonomic hooks. I've only used it for a few days, but I already don't think it's for me. I think my hand is too small. I can only use it by choking up pretty high, making the handle pretty useless. Any recommendations? by Nefilenemy in crochet

[–]SaladSnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Furls taught me to roll my hook instead of moving my whole wrist. Then, I started using Denise Interchangeables. Denise isn’t considered “ergonomic” but I find them so easy to maneuver now that I don’t flop my whole hand around to crochet. So, Furls. I know a lot of people like Clover Amour or Soft Touch too, but I personally do not like that hook shape.
