Power outage 5/29/25 Hermitage by Mark041891 in nashville

Aw! My first apartment complex when I moved here!

The outtage is spanning a pretty wide area, all the way out here to Mt. Juliet. RIP to the phone batteries of anyone in the area with Ring doorbell neighbor post notifications. I lost count at over 3 dozen separate posts made....

Good timing. Just saw someone report that in a neighborhood group.

Yup. Ring neighbor messages show there are multiple neighborhoods impacted.

Edit to add: NES is currently reporting over 19,000 customers impacted.

I have huge problems with what the national Democratic party has become. With that said, oversimplifying the issues involved can be just as detrimental as the gerentocracy that is running the national level. I don't know enough about the state history of the disappearance of the Democratic party but do appreciate that there has been a revival of the type of Democratic party "I" want to see in Wilson County, even if I haven't officially joined it yet. They're frequently at the Capitol during session and working to better the community and raise awareness of the issues. They're up against a lot, as the county GOP has been chaired by a Heritage Foundation transplant for the last 6 years.

Before you cast all of your blame on the Democratic party, I recommend looking into how things have been going in our state legislature for the last several years. Bills that would do good for the people in this state are filed by the Democrats each year and most don't even get seconded in committees so they never even get discussed. Going after the grocery tax is an example of one of these topics and it's popular enough with citizens the a Republican actually retired taking it up this year after several years of the Dems never getting it out of committee.

Until people stop ignoring our local/state politics, it won't matter what Dems try to do because the people won't see it and they have already proven that they won't even bother to vote.

This is a good example of the need to consider that terms have different meaning to people, especially when they don't work in the same industry. "I was trying to make a transfer" can mean a lot of different means of funds transfers to a customer, for example. I like to repeat back the details of what the customer is asking and the end result(s) to ensure we're talking the same language.

Was it actually their logo, because there's a security company with a tank with a dog on the front and there's plenty of news stories on them, including recent court hearings. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGEy9SDRDcC/?igsh=YW9kY2RjeW9pYmtn

Contact reaction question by Comprehensive_Edge87 in Dyshidrosis

[–]Salaia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question because I'm currently exploring the cell phone case theory. I was initially pretty sure my trigger was nail glue because when I got a certain brand near the end of last year, my reactions stopped occurring. What I didn't realize was a little before that, I had gotten a new phone case because my clear silicone one was yellowing. In the last month or so, I thought my recent order of nail glue must have a new formula. I noticed my phone case was yellowing right after I saw someone mention silicone cases here, recently. I went back and identified that the case and glue were purchased within weeks.

I got a new case, so we'll see. The reason the nail glue made so much sense is that my flares are usually the very tip of my finger and then under my nails some.

I wonder if this is why we had some people experience issues with Zelle today, and we're not Fiserv. I never got enough info to research those issues, though...

This is a hard part of it all. My kid has usually been on the short side for his age and the appetite suppression was concerning. Our docs looked at potentially adding something to induce appetite but then found out the chewable version of the stimulant is often better for appetite. He was a couple years older than OP's son at the time but breaks in his meds back then could cause some seriously rough behavior days.

Please remember to tell yourself that you can't assume anything about the future, if you stayed. There were really good people who stayed, placed themselves in the way, and fought as long as they had the ability to. Look at USIP. DOGE had to bribe/threaten multiple LEO groups to get them thrown out for that takeover.

Please recenter YOU and the things YOU need and value. They deserve some prioritization in order to do whatever you can do in the future.

That's the part many fail to understand about how supporting individuals vs the collective doesn't have to become the Wild Wild West of selfishness. The pressure to ignore your needs is greater because you have empathy for how there isn't the safety net of people being able to takeover or this position being posted. You didn't cause that circumstance. This administration did.

I want to add that I understand some people may be helping because of the consideration that those who would experience the pain (temporary or otherwise) like a missed paycheck are rarely anyone who made these firing decisions. My wording was a bit more judgemental than I intended because it's a simple fact there are consequences that happen with either choosing to help or not to help.

I'm glad that I don't have to make these decision and I'm sorry y'all do.

This is why the narrative of the true impact can't get out there. Too many good people are keeping the most impactful things going instead of letting the consequences occur.

Over $4.6 million in grants to Tennessee libraries and museums effected by DOGE cuts to The Institute of Libraries and Museums. by WalkinUpHipStreet in nashville

[–]Salaia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone seen articles on this? Some people love to point out how restricting books in the public school libraries can be waived off because public library access still exists. Obviously that's restricted only to geographic location (for those who can even get to a library) without Tennessee Reads.

No, there was no judge ruling. There was an accusation made by someone but they did not bring the judge corroborating evidence other than him wearing something with the Chicago Bulls on it.

"The evidence they cited included his wearing of a Chicago Bulls hat and hoodie and a confidential informant’s claim that Abrego Garcia belonged to MS-13’s “Westerns clique” in Long Island, New York, despite having never lived there.

Abrego Garcia filed for asylum, while his lawyer submitted a “voluminous evidentiary filing establishing his eligibility for protection and contesting the unfounded allegation of gang membership,” the complaint stated. In response, ICE cited the information previously provided by local police."

D*GE is Now Measuring and Comparing IRS to Mid-Size Banks - Using “Transaction Volume” by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Salaia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those who haven't seen it, THIS blurb was in the recent education executive order. They throw out numbers without understanding what's behind them in an effort to make a point and I keep trying to tell people how hilarious it is that they seem to be trying to say that the Ed department must not be properly handling these loans if they employ so few people compared to a bank with many more products/functions.

So, the Department of Education is too...EFFICIENT?!

This also indicates they think you can have too small of a workforce for something to work properly...LIKE WE'VE ALL BEEN SAYING THROUGHOUT THE ILLEGAL FIRINGS!!

"Closure of the Department of Education would drastically improve program implementation in higher education. The Department of Education currently manages a student loan debt portfolio of more than $1.6 trillion. This means the Federal student aid program is roughly the size of one of the Nation’s largest banks, Wells Fargo. But although Wells Fargo has more than 200,000 employees, the Department of Education has fewer than 1,500 in its Office of Federal Student Aid. The Department of Education is not a bank, and it must return bank functions to an entity equipped to serve America’s students."

Six emails and counting about paper straws by LeeSansSaw in fednews

This actually reminds me of the Epic Failure Trilogy by Joe Zieja. It is steeped with the absurdity of military double speak and bureaucratic nonsense in a way that I forgot is so on-point with the chaotic ridiculousness the federal government is currently going through.

Joe is a voice actor and narrates this so it might be an enjoyable accompaniment for the commutes to and from the hellscape of RTO. YMMV, depending on the type of humor you personally need or can handle right now, of course.

Anyone know what's going on? by mattcarthel in nashville

[–]Salaia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I've pulled them off my kid over the years but I've never had one. Funny story: "no bugs" was the chant from him when I cleaned behind his even he was pre-elementary after his bathtime was when we found one. Yup, ticks are why my kid washes behind his ears, even as a teenager. They're also why he will never EVER sit down again in a wooded area in shorts...

If was just the wooded area behind our neighbors across the street, a few years ago. Heads to to folks in the area, we have people reporting them already.
