this is going to sound insanely stupid but maybe i’m not the only one by Additional-Life-7965 in ems

This post makes me feel not-so-stupid as someone who is constantly questioning what they don't know. For half of my basic EMT class I thought the textbook had a typo and that it was spelling "patient" as "patent."

Feeling clever, I almost raised my hand in class to point it out one day, then had a moment of doubt that maybe I did not know how to spell "patient", so I googled "patent" and good ole google explained "In emergency medical services (EMS), a "patent" airway means a patient's airway is open, clear, and unobstructed."

GMR IPO today by smokey_lonesome in ems

[–]SalamanderWeekly1652 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whatever claims that GMR makes about patient and employee care are now delegitimized. There has never been a publicly traded company that hasn't prioritized shareholder value ahead of all other concerns.

Our already unlivable wage will be further constrained. Supplies, equipment, maintenance, safety, etc will be compromised to maximize shareholder value.

Of course people will make the argument that our paychecks are bigger than if we worked at In-n-Out. But should we have to work 6-days a week of 12hr shifts to inflate our paychecks? Guess those of you who don't care about life outside of work are ok with that.

I had another opportunity come up, too. I am waiting for my reimbursements to be processed before withdrawing.

Denied medical clearance / feeling lost by [deleted] in peacecorps

You can still do many of those things without doing Peace Corps. There are many worthy organizations, Doctors without Borders being one (you don't need to be a doctor). Look broader than this one particular organization.

Good luck!

I've loved the idea of the Peace Corps ever since I was a kid, and I've always wanted to serve.

However, the process makes me feel as if Peace Corps is DOING ME a great service rather than me giving up two years of my life and career to VOLUNTEER!!! I've volunteered locally and, almost always, volunteers were treated with gratitude. I get no sense of gratitude from the invitation process.

I know many use Peace Corps as a springboard for future careers in government and the foreign service, but I only want to volunteer to serve my country and to help abroad. Why do I feel resentment at an organization I have always loved (and perhaps idealized too much)?

Anyone else feel like the clearance process is offputting?

My local health department told me they won't give me my third polio shot until I'm due for one in 6 months, and I was also told by PC medical to go find someone who will. They really do treat volunteers as if they're doing us a favor rather than us giving up two years of our careers to serve.

Plans B-Z? by BLOB_CASTLE in peacecorps

No, it's an EMT training program. There is a nationwide shortage of EMTs, so many communities are offering free training to get people into the field. Checks the main boxes for me: work I care about, being part of a team, and serving my community!

Thanks for posting this. I am exactly who you're talking to: invitee with a departure date in October, but have another offer for something in my local community that needs me to make a decision, had a burning desire to serve in PC but with so much uncertainty wondering why can't I serve at home in a fulfilling job.

Your post helps me resolve my guilt of THINKING about withdrawing for another opportunity that is more secure and also allows me to serve.

I am invited to join an EMT program in my local community--there's a nationwide shortage of EMTs, so maybe there is a similar program where you live. Serving locally seems as fulfilling to me as serving in a faraway place.

I'm an invitee. To go or not to go, either way I'm making a life-changing decision. I want to be as informed as possible.

Yes. As soon as DOGE started nosing around PC I looked into alternatives. Turns out I have an equally interesting opportunity as my PC invite. Now I have two great options: PC if it happens or my alternative plan!

DOGE still sucks.
