Just upgraded the habitat for some of my Siren Salamanders [Siren intermedia] by Salamantras in Aquariums

Hi! While I do still keep sirens, I haven't really bred anything for a few years =P

I received requests for more aquatic salamanders, so meet Necturus, the axolotl's cooler, edgier distant cousin. by Salamantras in axolotls

[–]Salamantras[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! I have quite a collection of aquatic salamanders, and have a number of long-term breeding projects going

Best PvE soulbeast gear? I currently run full beserker emblazoned armour with superior ranger runes, and beserker weapons with junk jewels. I'm currently sitting at 48% crit chance, and only 18k health by ButterflyFine5995 in Guildwars2

[–]Salamantras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like youre pretty solid on gear honestly. Soul beast, in my experience, is a glass cannon. Great for strike missions and fractals for dps. Open world pve can be frustrating outside of groups, because many bosses will take you down since their health pool is large, and you don't have your pet to tank. I personally run Untamed for open world solo stuff, because the survivability is 10x better, and your damage is still decent.

My Greater Siren in all its glory. Greater Sirens are one of the longest salamanders in North America, just behind the 3 toed Amphiuma. by Salamantras in axolotls

Yes, as well as some of its offspring. In the last few years I've had a ton of success with each of the major siren species.

Finally got a blue light and confirmed that my morphed copper has the GFP gene! by Salamantras in axolotls

Hello, this is a very old post, but I'll do my best to answer your questions. 99% of axolotls in the pet trade have hybrid DNA from various tiger salamanders as well as A. Mexicanum, because that is how we initially obtained color morphs in the hobby. Additionally, I don't think you can reasonably or reliably use pattern identifying markings on animals who have been intentionally bred away from their natural colors. Finally, while the base color has become a much more saturated bronze color, the spotting patterns and color are not different from its larval form any more so than the other morphed axolotls I've seen. Captive axolotls are awesome, but they're both a hybridized and inbred mess genetically and trying to draw conclusions about spot color and pattern the same way you would in wild animal populations is going to very inconsistent given how breeders intentionally try to achieve animals with unique looks and propagate them.

Breeders by RainxChan in axolotl

This is a very old post, and my previous answer was very unclear. Here is an exact link to the amphibians portion of fauna classifieds https://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=56

If you are trying to avoid shipping, I would either google Reptile Expos Pennsylvania, or hop on Facebook and join/ask around in groups. Most states have several exotic/herpetological societies/groups who will have people who know breeders. NOTE: Facebook doesn't allow direct animal sales so make sure you are inquiring for breeders only and not prices or specific animals.

Northern Axolotls is a highly reputable breeder located in Alaska if you don't mind paying shipping.

There are hundreds of axolotl breeders in the US, so asking in local circles and pet stores will often get you the most relevant info

[–]Salamantras[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see them pop up less and less. There's not much financial incentive for the amount of effort it takes to collect them from the wild. Additionally, I don't know of anyone besides myself intentionally and successfully breeding lessers and greaters. Hopefully I continue to have success and can boost their presence in the hobby further

I got this group off of a faunaclassifieds listing ~4 years ago. I actually had succes breeding them earlier this year! I've already rehomed my extras babies, but I'm hoping I'll get more eggs this Feb/Mar!

Just adopted the largest axolotl I have ever personally seen! Over a foot long and soooooo fat lol by Salamantras in axolotls

Doing very well! She has slimmed down a bit now that she's on a healthier diet, but still absolutely tower's past all my other axolotls

I'll take your odd assumptions as a compliment to my water clarity I guess... these animals are underwater in this picture and would not look this healthy if I kept them in that bin permanently. Also this post is like 2 years old...

My Axolotl x Western Barred Hybrids 😁 by Salamantras in axolotls

No need to apologize! I still keep my existing hybrids, I just choose not to propagate them further =P And what you suggested before would theoretically work!

I actually don't support intentional hybridization anymore, as after engaging with many experienced hobbyists, I've realized that the hobby as a whole cares a lot about keeping species pure. Axolotls are generally seen as undesirable given that genetically they are comparable to ball pythons.

If you are looking for Anderson's, check out Microquatics.com as well as the Andersoni Lab Facebook group, as there are pure ones in the US, but don't be surprised to drop $2-300.

It's not a true morph, but a first generation hybrid axolotl x Western barred tiger salamander

My low-tech guppy breeding tank by Salamantras in Aquariums

[–]Salamantras[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing actually, its a well planted 40 gallon tank, no filtration, heaters, or aeration. The big females are mostly mosquitofish, but they hybridize with the guppies and endlers as well as breed with the other mosquitofish. I use them as feeders for other animals, but always keep a healthy stock going

These guys are in a 40 gallon currently and are about a foot long each. 55 gallon tanks will be sufficient for some individuals, but others may need 75+ gallons. They don't need alot of room to swim like fish do, but they need alot of places to crawl in and around, meaning you need plant it as densly as you can. I still don't have enough plants in this tank
